Review summary

NCL provides a great experience. Their staff is excellent and the ship and quarters are clean and easy to get around. Entertainment was first class. The food was good but nothing to rave about like you might have experienced on other cruise lines.

Embarkation

Efficient and comforting from a health perspective

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was good, quite acceptable but nothing to write home about. Little shrimp, no crab legs, no filet mignon. We were a bit spoiled given our prior experience on Carnival.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
It was an Alaska cruise so pool and other activities were not used much by anyone.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Singing & dance show were spectacular. Comedy routine was a home run. Lounge music was very good and set the proper mood.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was very professional, friendly and aimed to please you and make your vacation a success. Highly recommended.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was clean and maintained. Elevators were strategically placed for the passenger's convenience.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We paid for an upgrade to an Ocean View cabin (9007). It was roomy, clean and efficiently laid out. Beds were very comfortable.

Ship tip

LOL, bring seasick pills, just in case.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

4 out of 5
Seattle is an interesting place but we did not feel overly safe there. Shopping was kind of pricey. Transportation was very good. It was reasonable and brought us to places of interest.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

4 out of 5
Not a lot to see but what was there was interesting. Tram ride was fun.

Sitka, Alaska

5 out of 5
Very good stop, a lot to see and great shops. Visit the Russian Orthodox Church while you're there.

Cruise Glacier Bay

4 out of 5
At this time of the year, little is left of the glaciers. What was there was spectacular and they made sure we spent ample time.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Fantastic port of call. Definitely take the train ride up to the Canadian border and back. The views are incredible and they narrate throughout the journey. Dog sledding demonstrations were also very interesting and informative.

Juneau, Alaska

Unfortunately, if you go whale watching, you have no time to see anything else. Given that viewing the whales is from quite a distance, the fact that you only see the top of the whales and all the other boats are trying to do the same, I'd recommend skipping the excursion and just visiting the town.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
Be sure to visit Saxman Village and see all the totems and also see how they're made. See the native ceremonial dances too. A wonderful experience.

Victoria, British Columbia Did not visit port

Bad weather, rough seas, 12 hour delay, could not visit

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Process was slower than anticipated.
