I will never know!!! by JackN

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

I was booked by the cruise line or travel agency without my approval, no one will admit they made the mistake. The cruise line has us booked and will not agree to return our cruise reward that was used for the deposit. All this was done without our knowledge or approval. We first learned about the booking three weeks later by e-mail from the cruise line stating welcome aboard. The message did not list a date, ship, cost or any details about the cruise. The message stated to check in on line, The travel agency (Cruises Only) blames the cruise line (Norwegian) and the cruise company states the agency is at fault. They are going to cancel our reservation that was made without our approval because we failed to make a final payment in time. We did make one cruise on Norwegian and it was ok but it will be our LAST. Please don't make the same mistake and contact Cruises Only as your travel agency or Norwegian as your choice for a cruise.

Hot ...Hot ... Hot by CindyD2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

We recently sailed on the Norwegian Star for the second time. We really like NCLs style, service, and freestyle cruising. We loved all the nightlife options. The shows were great it felt like a totally different night out, every single night. Overall, we have to say the ship was really impressive; the staff was wonderful as always. Our next cruise is already being planned, although it may not be on the Star depending on the place we will cruise to, it will definitely be on Norwegian Cruise Lines!!!

The Best Vacation we have had in Years!! by LouanW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our very first cruise...WOW. We loved it completely. The Norwegian Star was a beautiful ship, fantastic crew and we enjoyed every minute. Not enough hours in the day to take in all that it had to offer. We can not wait to take another cruise. The choices were many and the freedom to choose was fantastic. The Inland passage was a beautiful trip, only wish we could have gotten closer to Sawyer Glacier. We would highly reccomend this ship, its terrific crew from stewards, cooks, waiters & waitress, office staff, entertainers etc. They are all Number One in our book. Thank you Nowegian Cruise Lines for making our "43 Anniversary" so very special to us.

enjoyable calm cruise by Mollyk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The food was adequate. The quality of the food in the upcharge restaurants wasn't really worth the extra expense. My wife said the desserts had no flavor. The bed was like a hollowed out canoe. Something to do with the thick mattress pad.. Not a cruise worth repeating.

Cruise so Nice, I Want to Take ItTwice! by AsantewaA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Just returned from the 7-day Alaska cruise on the Norwegian Star via inside passage to Ketchikan, Juneau, Sawyer Glacier, and Skagsway! It was FANTABULOUS! I loved the pristine environment of Alaska; I loved seeing nature at it's finest; I loved the cruise ship -- very beautiful, excellent crew staff, food was great too; but the entertainment was SUPERB! I can't say enough great things about the Jean Ryan Dance Company -- performances were spectacular and so very professional! I also enjoyed the "freestyle cruising" concept! I was so free that I forgot which day of the week it was! (ha) I definitely would take this same cruise again; but a littler earlier than mid-September. Thanks to NCL crew for a GREAT TIME!

Beautiful Ship by AT301

The ship was beautiful and well organized. Unfortunately there is a lot of soliciting. We didn't like being approached by people trying to sell various things.

A Gret Time had by All by ElizaI

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was clean and well kept. The staff members were friendly and willing to help especially since I had a family member in a wheelchair. It was wheelchair accessable most of the time, except when cleaning the cabins then the halls were a little cramped; however, the staff did move to stuff to accommodate us.

Not worth the upgrade by CarolynW1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We constantly felt like we were being sold to throughout the trip, above and beyond the normal cruising experience. We were given no actual information about any of the ports we visited, aside from where to find the Diamonds International store (which was in every port, the itinerary was very repetitive). There is an upcharge for virtually everything on the ship, and their gratuities and "service charges" were higher than other cruise lines. For an Alaskan itinerary, I would strongly recommend ANOTHER cruise line.

A Dream Come True by Ms111

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first cruise, so we did not know exactly what to expect nor did we expect anything in particular. The staff for the most part did their job, very few spoke good english so communication was difficult. They were pushy with their drink service and I hated the fact that 15% tips were included in your bill PLUS we paid a $12 per person per day service charge. Most staff smiled. My husband got yelled at by the chef because he was in the breakfast line to early (By 10 mins) The last night we were there, we had an horrible sewer smell in our room (we were on deck 11) But taking all of that out of it..I would do it again on the same ship in a heart beat.

A great family vacation by HawaiianG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Overall, the ship was impressively kept well, considering it is nearly 9 years old. I sailed ona brand new ship 5 years ago, and this ship was almost comparably clean! THe staff were really helpful and nice. The food selection was good, and the flexibility unbeatable. They even had a kids club that allowe us to go on an adult excursion offshore, and on another day, eat a nice dinner without the kids. The kids center kept them busy, but some of the employees that worked there didn't look like they liked kids. Some looked tired...and this was only the second sailing of the season! I thought the cabin was kept tidy and they always seemed to know when we leave so they can clean it. They left towel folded animals and chocolates for us every night. All of the restaurant staff was extremely friendly and accomodating, except for 1 waiter in Aqua. Food quality was good, and great in some places (Cagney's). Overall, I would sail on this ship again, but I'm going to try another destination. One last thing: They lost 1 of my bags (the most important one with the diapers), and it took past 10 PM to get to my stateroom (I checked in at noon!). Make sure you pack whatever you need in your carry on just in case this happens to you. After talking to several staff members, FINALLY they found my bag!!

Best vacation! by SamC1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Icebergs, glaciers, whales, bears, sea lions, seals and eagles and that was just the first day! Not exactly...but we saw all this and more throughout the week . We had wanted to visit Alaska for years and glad to have had this opportunity. I'll admit some of the reviews listed here caused some concern about what we should expect onboard the Star but our experience was without disappointment. Before we left home we tried to learn about anything considered extra and for us there were no surprises. It was week of fun, relaxation, and discovery. The ship and crew was outstanding. I can think of no better way or better ship to visit the Inside Passage.

Great cruise by WillieB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We thoroughly enjoyed our 7 day cruise on the Norwegian Star from 5/23/09. Our cabin was ready when we boarded. The people that kept our room was always on target with our needs and having our room ready. We were able to get into all the restaurants with minimal wait time. Each meal had a variety of cuisine from American to Indian, etc. I tried it all and enjoyed the variety of flavors. Staff was always courteous. The entertainment was also great from Mr. Mowtown, Paradise Duo, and the Ryan Group. We have nothing negative to say at all - looking forward to doing it again.

Great Cruise by WandaR

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was my third cruise and boyfriend's first, we were both impressed. Nice clean ship and special attention to keeping everyone healthy during cruise, hand sanitizer available everywhere and ship personnel stationed at dining room entrances to remind people to use the product. Loved the size of our mini suite with it's bathroom. There was ample storage for all our belongings. Stateroom stewards very friendly and professional, saw to our every need. Kept our room clean and stocked. Respected our privacy. Entertainment was lacking. Went to two different shows and left within the first 5 - 10 minutes of each. Resturants that were free could use some improvements and more variety in their daily menu's. Served the same food everyday.

Freesyle cruising, definitely different! by SusanK19

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The entertainment was outstanding and spectacular. We noticed most of the servers and personnel (in the restaurants with a cover charge and also at the buffet) lacked the incentive to please the customer so the ones that did want to please, totally stood out and were exceptional. Another thing is all the hidden costs and the nickel and dimey way for most everything.

A Real Money Grab by TonyL2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Freestyle sounds great on the surface, but get ready to pay $10-25 per person for this option. In addition, some restaurants charge not only the fee but an additional premium if you choose particular items. ie. Cagney's is $25 plus an additional $10 if you want surf and turf. At $35/pp this soon adds up. Every where you go, they constantly promote bingo; before shows, swimming, etc. The cost is $89/pp with very little of that money given back as prizes. A true rip-off, this has to be a HUGE money maker. I personally feel the Cruise Director's staff is graded on their ability to generate revenue rather than provide quality entertainment. Most of the activities they promote have a $$$ attached. I was amazed at how often this staff had their hand out.
