Great to be on the water! by SarahB10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The ship was great, as was Mexico. Most of the staff was good, but as they have "freestyle" dining, the wait staff isn't very motivated. The food was mediocre unless you pay extra for the "nicer" restaurants in which case the food was good to excellent. There were almost no free classes (ie yoga $12.00). The classes that were free, were used to sell you something. Even though I paid 12-18% for services I did use, EVERYONE was expecting an additional tip, which I thought was outrageous.

should be called STAND IN LINE CRUISING by Kim5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

the food and staff were excellent but the noise level in our room, at the main pool and in the casual Market Cafe were unbearable the long waits for dinner, never less than 40 minutes, no matter when you went were very frustrating we enjoyed the quiet of the Barong Spa, but had to pay $119 to use it for 6 days- we also went back at 8 pm the last evening of the cruise and were informed it was closing 2 hours early, no signs posted earlier in the day though to inform us of this

Good, not great by KristineZ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Overall it was a nice ship, crew, and vacation. There were several little things that detracted from the overall trip. The joke onboard became Freestyle Cruising for the retentive. Lots of rules, some of which were inconsistent with published information on the ship. Reservations for dinner are offered in the daily newsletter, but not allowed when you actually request them - unless its a pay restaurant. My son was kicked out of the fitness center despite the sign on the wall stating he was old enough to be there. They don't include Roy Rogers/Shirley Temple in the soda program plus its a few dollars more per day than other ships. No coffee at the coffee bar until they open at 7, despite having coffee made at 630 and a line of people wanting to pay for simple drip coffee and an employee standing there looking desperately at the manager to be given permission to serve the coffee, only to be glared at. Liquor purchases must be picked up on the last night, no delivery. The timing of this makes it impossible to have dinner in the dining room and attend the final night show - you have to pick one or the other.

Delightful cruise by JohnC41

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The ship and overall experience was superb. But for the really good food, you had to pay as much as $35 extra per person to go to specialty restaurants aboard the ship.

An Amazing Cruz!!!! by DianeA2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

We just returned from the NCL STAR cruise from the Mexican Riviera. Well let us just say AMAZING. From the shows, to the food and the hospitality, even though at times we felt a bit pressured, thought the $12.00 per day per person was a bit high. Would have loved to visit the spa hottub without a charge. The regular restaurants were top notch, wonderful and satifying meals with great selections. We celebrated our 1st anniversary on the STAR and would love to do it again. My husband has been on other cruises and this was my 1st, we had a balcony stateroom, which we loved. We have already been recommending NCL as the way to cruise. We both can't wait to do it again very soon.....Thank you

A great cruise by CesarG1

It was a great ship to be on this ship and the service was very good. The spa which was average, could be stepped up to a nicer experience for cruisers.

Okay Cruise by NicholeM2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The food was awful. The entertainment was okay at best. The best thing on the ship was the art auction, amazing art with park west.

Free style not so free!! by AnnaS7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

There are a lot of options but all at an extra cost. The employees seems to be over worked and therefor not so friendly and quick as we have found on other cruises.

A fun cruise with exceptions by MarcJ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Shows were excellent and excursions very good. Room service was exemplary. Main complaint is the "freestyle dining." Food was just ok to good.... not great. Always had to wait 20-30 min. to be seated. Felt is was bad form to offer the specialty restaurants at a price when the main dining (included in price) was not that great and always had a wait for dinner.

No More NCL by JulieB1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The ship, though once beautiful, is showing signs of age, and hard use. Very limited space outside except by the overly crowded, congested pool area. This area is noisy, overwhelming and uncomfortable. The pool is small, and there is only one main pool. There are never enough chairs avialable. The hot tubs and water slides take most of the square footage. The pool closes very early, so there is no night swimming avialable. Floors are treacherous because the area is so small, everything is constantly wet and slippery. Very limited sitting space on open deck. Jogging track closes at 8 PM.

A big active ship with lots to do by JohnR21

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

You are a captive when you board a big ship like this. But it is very nice jail time and the jailers are lots of fun! Not sure I would want to be on the same boat for 10 weeks, however.

very dissatisfied with cruise! by JamesM2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

As stated above all but 3 restaurants had a cover charge per person to eat at, some were as high as $35.00 per person! That is $70.00 per couple! I thought the cruise was all inclusive for food. Also as stated above a 15% autogratuity was charged on all purchases, including a $12.00 service charge per day per person! I was also given a $100.00 credit by cruises only but only given a $70.00 credit by NCL? The off-road buggy adventure excursion was only 2 hours long, not the 3 1/2 hours told. The off road buggy were in very poor condition and unsafe to operate!

At least we made it there and back by RichardH3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The two guys who cleaned our room were very pleasant. Our last cruise was on the same ship in 05. We expected the same level of service. On the cruise in 05, our room was cleaned every time we left. On this cruise they cleaned our room only one time per day AND COMPLETELY MISSED OUR ROOM ON THURSDAY. In the future, when someone asks about our cruise, I will tell them to try Royal Carribian.

HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by DanaD3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Terrible food, service and accomodations! Not only that but all other cruise lines did not take thier passengers to Matzatlan because of shootings happening there that we were not aware of. We were out shopping and had the horrific chance of witnessing two people killed accross the street from us! Not exactly what cruise memory I wanted for my children. The cruise line put us knowingly in danger just for the money. WE WILL NEVER SAIL WITH THEM AGAIN! Please do NOT go on this cruise line. It will be a BIG mistake!
