FALLING STAR by joananello

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

fair............the toilet was enclosed and lacked room. Had to turn sideways to use it. NO room on toilet hit my head on wall. You didn't have another room to change me to, so I used the toilets by the resturants. Tables at the buffet were missing shells, a good place for bacteria to grow. They should be sealed. Small TV's at this day is a joke. My laptop has a bigger screen. My room did not have any hair conditioners, face soap, or lotion. If i would of known this i would of brought my own. This is the first time on a ship that these little things were missing.

Norwegian Star-Western Caribbean by ganlem

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship is good in general; but the food is only average. Of the 4 ports, 3 of them are above par. The other 1 (Roatan) could have been deleted from the itinerary and should have been replaced with another port.

Much better than Carnival cruises! by barnett

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Love the Free-Style dining! Didn't have to line up for a set dinner time like on Carnival. In fact, we had no trouble or wait getting into the regular dining rooms, the Versailes and Aqua; however, would recommend making reservations early in the day for them as well as the speciality dining. Tips are added automatically to your ship bill. The food seemed better too. Liked the shower glass doors. We left New Orleans on Jan 26 and returned on Feb 3rd, 2013 for the Western Caribean 7 night cruise. There weren't very many kids and strollers on board this time of year. We got very lucky and the weather was beautiful until the last port, which wasn't so bad that we couldn't get out and do some shopping. I don't think it was a beach day. We were all welcomed back on the ship with a big party the crew put on between our ship, the Star, and the Peral. Service was very good. The shows were very good. The only thing I would have to complain about are the TV's in the staterooms. Ours was a very small one, not a flat screen either.

Western Caribbean by AWillits

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our cabin was directly below a night club. Luckily for us, after 2 days, we were moved to a cabin with the same layout but in a different location. We were given a free dinner at one of the premium restaurants. For the price we paid the meals were adequate. I wish the chef knew how to cook pork and salmon (both were overcooked and the pork was so dry it was inedible). I love to play trivia. I was very disappointed that we did not receive prizes for a win but instead got a stamp on a card which we could later redeem for a prize. Even non winners got stamps. The prizes were lousy and I want the immediate gradification of a prize when our team wins. Unfortunately I had booked the same cruise some years earlier. The show were basically the same but we felt not quite as good. The award winning Elements which we loved 2 years ago was disappointing as the 2 "strong men" were not a part of it. I think next time I will choose a different cruise line.

Why change a good thing by arelenew

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Food quality was poor. All the pork dishes were so overcooked they were dry, hard to cut, basically inedible. I like to play trivia on a cruise (regular trivia not progressive). Usually when your team wins you get a prize. Not so on this cruiseline. Winners get a stub and director signs his name. Everyone gets at least one signing. At the end of the cruise you can turn these in for "valuable" prizes. Our team won almost every game and the prizes were not anything special. We all agreed the old tried and true way was the best - you win you get a small prize. Won't be using NCL again so please take me off your email list.

Great cruise / Most terrible room assignment! by DrDavidDalton

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Absolutely, I would like to review! I am disturbed that I would spend time book a cruise with you all and get the room I and my parents were assigned. I am an extreme heart patient with 22% heart function and sleep is essential for my health and well-being. My wife and I, along with my parents, my dad begin 81, mom 78. were placed in the most front rooms in the bow of the ship. It rolled and rocked all night. I was told this to be the worst rooms in the ship. WHY WHY WHY were we, of all the passengers, the ones to get the worst spots on the boat. I had to stay up at night, int he public meeting areas and sleep in a chair. Not my idea of a pleasant vacation and for me, it was a real health risk. THIS IS NOT WHAT WE AGREED TO MY PURCHASING THROUGH YOUR SERVICE. Could whether your services in interested in making a sell and telling a lie to its consumers, or are you really interested in providing vacation travel to your customers. It this was supposed to be enjoyable, IT WAS NOT!

Holiday 2012 by NancyPhillips

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The holiday 2012 cruise was wonderful. NCL Star is a great ship to travel on and the crew provides excellent customer service. We ate at 3 specialty restaurants and food was very good. Aft facing suite was wonderful, very quiet and very relaxing. Especially enjoyed the 3 piece trio that played in the Atrium every night. Will definitely travel on the NCL Star again!

My Birthday cruise on the Norwegian Star by AAWesome

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I cruised on the Norwegian Star for the second time, in a little over a month a half, in December 2012, for my birthday. It was great reconnecting with some of the staff who where now my friends from my previous 14-day cruise in October. On the second cruise, 7-day to Costa Maya, Belize, Honduras, Cozumel, and New Orleans, there was a greater array of food options for lunch and dinner. The breakfast options were basically the same from the previous 14-day cruise. Norwegian Star could definitely improve in that area. Also, for my birthday, I was sent a birthday card to my stateroom, which was cool, until I saw that it was addressed to someone else. Lastly, Norwegian could improve in regards to their Twitter handle, as well. Upon disembarking both cruises I tweeted the Norwegian Cruises handle to only have my tweets go unacknowledged. I thought that was rude. Especially, being a loyalty member and stating this information in the tweet. Apart from these things, I had two pretty great experiences on the Norwegian Star.

Peaceful Relaxation by Noodlebrain

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Nice high end cruise. Specialty restaurants were excellent. Regular restaurants were very good. The problem with all Western Caribbean cruises is the ports of call. We went to Costa Maya which is a contrived shopping center to buy future garage sale items as well as overpriced jewelry. We did have the best ceviche of the trip at the restaurant next to Frog's. Belize City was great because we booked a private tour with Dave's Eco Tours and spent the day having a great time. Roatan was really a "back water" place that may be good for divers on a budget but is not a great place for cruisers. Cozumel is the crown jewel of the western Caribbean. Enough said. I would do it again if all I wanted was rest and relaxation. We got plenty and we appreciated it.

The staff attitude/training was outstanding and the facilities comfortable and welcoming. The ship was in perfect condition, and the staff was immediately attentive to any spills, etc. Cleanliness/sanitation was a real emphasis - in a fun way!

Great destinations ... Average ship by NicoleJ36927510

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Not impressed. The only thing about the ship that I really liked was the art work in the stairwells. The fountain in the Atrium seemed like it didn't work. There was a lot of rust throughout the ship and the decor just seemed off. I was not WOW'ed. This cruiseship seemed to be geared towards older people and not the 20-40 year old group.

Great service moderate amenaties by JoshD

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I was really impressed with the crew. They all seem to really enjoy their work and make you feel like a star. They go out of their way to say good morning and ask how you are doing. Their work ethic is astonishing. The food was the same day after day at the main buffet. The free restaurant did not deviate enough from the main buffet. The single ice cream machine broke several times during the cruise which was a big disappointment for the kids since all of the other dessert was designed for diabetics. While the cruise reviews and description made it seem like a family friendly ship it turned out to only have about a dozen families on the ship. Most of the cruisers were senior citizens which. Nothing against the senior citizens however when you have a large family of young children they are looking for play mates. Going to the main pool and out side grill became a health hazard with that also being a main smoking area. You had to go through a crowd of smokers just to get to the pool. Very disappointing. One of our children was 12 years old which placed her in an uncomfortable age group of 6 to 12 year olds. She was not allowed to go to the teen area which I slightly agreed with although without any other alternative and nothing geared for her age she did not have fun on the ship at all.

What's not to like? by SusanS58343155

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean

Haven't cruised with NCL for a few years and now have a renewed interest. The staff really goes all out to please. The ship was spotless and our room steward responded to our every request. Best dining experience was at Le Bistro, although dining rooms were fine. Very impressed with the whole experience.

NCL Star Cruise by DawnB65236291

The ship was spacious and in good condition. There was a wide variety of activities, eateries, entertainment, and so on that could appeal to families, young people, singles, etc. My family (two parents and four 20-somethings) were never bored.
