Was disappointed with Norwegian and would not cruise with then again. Royal Caribbean has more to offer and better activities.

A great cruise by abbydoodle

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Prima

For a new ship, there were some things in disrepair. The whole “Stadium” area is a mess. Everything is broken or damaged. Shuffleboard pucks don’t slide on table, dart boards are worn out and darts don’t stick, ping pong equipment was falling apart. The go-carts are OK, like a one and done, not good enough to do again. The spa needed some repairs, too. Hubs enjoyed Galaxy Pavilion and we liked the escape room. They canceled the Donna Summer show without giving a reason, so that was a bummer. Entertainment was sort of a letdown. We still had a great time, met some super nice people, had some fantastic food and drinks and would do this cruise again if we could get the Vibe passes again.

Love hate relationship…mostly love. by beansbeansbeans

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Prima

Beautiful ship with many quirks. people I talk to either love the ship or wished they were on a traditional ship. I just don’t understand how people can be so upset just because things are a little different. You’re on a seven day cruise with weather that really cooperated. My wife and I are looking forward to our next trip on either Prima or Viva. It was a great experience with a few hiccups.

Prima Review by ahem13

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Prima

Prima is a beautiful new ship. The new layout takes time to get used to. Gift shops were closed due to changing vendors. Went to Cagney’s, Food Republic, Onda , Los Lobos and Hudson’s. The food was good in each of them. Room Steward was excellent and the room was spacious and beautiful. I would cruise on Prima again and would recommend it overall.

This was a 7 day western caribean from Galveston. The cruise itself was great. Unfortunately the weather was cool and rainy all but 2 days , but we had a great time anyway!

Nope. by Elizzy824

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Prima

We cruised from Galveston on Norwegian PRIMA to Mexico, Belize, Honduras. Pros: 1) Spacious, clean room with a fantastic steward (Wayan for the win!!!) 2) Casino (-1 because bring a drink with you; beverage service is non-existent) 3) Extremely polite and friendly guests (many from Canada & Texas) 4) Ample Trivia Games (-1 for lame/no prizes) 5) No safety drill (-1 Where are the life jackets anyhow? LOL) 6) Rumors (+10 Fleetwood Mac cover band) a. They should absolutely be able to perform in the main theatre (See #4 below) b. Made me cry; i. Made others cry; 1. THEY ARE THAT GOOD. Cons: 1) 1 outdoor smoking section (upper deck) is often closed due to weather. 2) 1 indoor smoking section in the casino that doesn’t have adequate ventilation and is closed at ports. 3) Spending 10-30 minutes in line for a drink/Felt invisible/Grumpy bartenders/some bars not opened at all during the cruise. 4) Spending 1 hour in line (25 people before us) to get the last 2 seats to see a show a. Venues too small. b. Not enough entertainment. 5) Unsafe food handling practices (ungloved Chef pulling raw steaks from fridge to grill then touching done steaks/utensils with same hands). We spoke to the manager. a. We were seated 6 feet from the kitchen on Valentine’s Day – very loud, not romantic. “Hey look at that! Should we leave? We might get sick.” i. Reservation was made months prior, not part of a dining package. 6) No light beer available and wine served in a dirty washed glass (literally changed the flavor of the wine) a. I carried one plastic wine glass with me after the above for the entire trip (get it at Indulge) and washed it a lot. b. Guest friend never coming back – recommended Royal Caribbean. 7) $20 per day, per person, service charges added just because we had a balcony? – wish I would’ve known because I was already tipping the bartenders with cash (as I do)… a. Another guest recommended Royal Caribbean. b. Another guest recommended Virgin. c. Another guest recommended Carnival. (Wow, that’s a low bar that the NCL Prima somehow missed) 8) Eggs Benedict not cooked correctly (hard boiled eggs) – total bummer. Wanted this every day, but nope. 9) 3 small pools (2 good for 6 people; 1 good for children); 2 hot tubs (6 people) = 30 people of 3,099 enjoy the pools. 10) Broken glass where children play This will be my last trip on the NCL Prima. We previously did a rock cruise on the NCL Pearl, and had no cons. It was fantastic. Prima was the worst cruise I’ve ever been on.

Regretfully never again by larrystein6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Prima

1) Norwegian pulled a bait and switch. Prepaid $400 for service fees and tips. Once we left Galveston they charge $20 per person per day ADDITIONAL service charge for the crew. So crew tips are now $700. 2) our cruise included unlimited open bar. This was a huge mistake for us, as the bars are mobbed. You have to fight the crowds at every bar staring at 9am to get a drink from one of the two bartenders at each bar. 3) again due to open bar. 60% of the passengers are drunk and loud from 11am to 10pm. Be ready for lots of loud voices and laughing 4) I am so shocked at the lack of pools, pool space and same for hot tubs.

Family cruise, so we spent a lot of time playing cards and other family activities. Missed some activities because of that, but still had a great time.

Beautiful ship! but.... by zade

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Prima

The prima needs some times to get used to it with their new concept. 95% of the crews and guests did not like the ship. It's a different style. Either you hate it or love it.

MOSTLY UNDERWHELMING. SOME BRIGHT SPOTS. by Yankee47

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Prima

Understand NCL made several changes to VIVA to address problems the designers (who clearly didn't operate in the real world) ignored on THIS ship. Couldn't verify, but believe they're not building anymore like PRIMA. FUnny re dinner reservations...made ours early...but wanted to make some changes. wheelchair pusher kid took us down to 6th floor where dinner reservation could be made...hundreds of people online...several reps seated at terminals, people looking at menus....you could stay there all day...no exaggeration....kid pushing her wheelchar buttonholed one of the supervisors who fixed everything..then discovered the NCL app magically allowed reservations to be made for venues that were "unbookable"....kiosks didn't work, but room reservations "eventually" did. So between what we had pre-booked, what they did down at the restaurant reservations chaos, and the room tv, we got excactly what we wanted...note...there was NO ONE PLACE that actually listed them all...miraculously, our reservation we in their computer somewhere, and we never had a problem when we showed up.

Great experience for first time cruise with family. Already booked future trip on Prima and Viva but made sure our cabin location is further aft. Wish they would cycle the menu at the Haven restaurant. Beautiful ship. Friendly staff. Can't wait to get back on board.

Not a fan of the ship, but a vacation is hard to complain about by jessicaflukey

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Prima

A good cruise with family. The ship was clean and the staterooms spacious. We would sail this ship and itinerary again. But we would not go out of our way to get this ship again because we wished it had entertainment more like other NCL ships.

NCL Prima - Jan 5 - Galveston by Gtowncruisers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Prima

Overall a great cruise and we made the most of it. I think NCL is experimenting with a few things and obviously the Prima is the first of a new design and a few quirks are to be expected. There is more of an emphasis on self service than I am used to and as a result it was a bit different feel. Not bad, just new and/or different.
