Review summary
We cruised from Galveston on Norwegian PRIMA to Mexico, Belize, Honduras. Pros: 1) Spacious, clean room with a fantastic steward (Wayan for the win!!!) 2) Casino (-1 because bring a drink with you; beverage service is non-existent) 3) Extremely polite and friendly guests (many from Canada & Texas) 4) Ample Trivia Games (-1 for lame/no prizes) 5) No safety drill (-1 Where are the life jackets anyhow? LOL) 6) Rumors (+10 Fleetwood Mac cover band) a. They should absolutely be able to perform in the main theatre (See #4 below) b. Made me cry; i. Made others cry; 1. THEY ARE THAT GOOD. Cons: 1) 1 outdoor smoking section (upper deck) is often closed due to weather. 2) 1 indoor smoking section in the casino that doesn’t have adequate ventilation and is closed at ports. 3) Spending 10-30 minutes in line for a drink/Felt invisible/Grumpy bartenders/some bars not opened at all during the cruise. 4) Spending 1 hour in line (25 people before us) to get the last 2 seats to see a show a. Venues too small. b. Not enough entertainment. 5) Unsafe food handling practices (ungloved Chef pulling raw steaks from fridge to grill then touching done steaks/utensils with same hands). We spoke to the manager. a. We were seated 6 feet from the kitchen on Valentine’s Day – very loud, not romantic. “Hey look at that! Should we leave? We might get sick.” i. Reservation was made months prior, not part of a dining package. 6) No light beer available and wine served in a dirty washed glass (literally changed the flavor of the wine) a. I carried one plastic wine glass with me after the above for the entire trip (get it at Indulge) and washed it a lot. b. Guest friend never coming back – recommended Royal Caribbean. 7) $20 per day, per person, service charges added just because we had a balcony? – wish I would’ve known because I was already tipping the bartenders with cash (as I do)… a. Another guest recommended Royal Caribbean. b. Another guest recommended Virgin. c. Another guest recommended Carnival. (Wow, that’s a low bar that the NCL Prima somehow missed) 8) Eggs Benedict not cooked correctly (hard boiled eggs) – total bummer. Wanted this every day, but nope. 9) 3 small pools (2 good for 6 people; 1 good for children); 2 hot tubs (6 people) = 30 people of 3,099 enjoy the pools. 10) Broken glass where children play This will be my last trip on the NCL Prima. We previously did a rock cruise on the NCL Pearl, and had no cons. It was fantastic. Prima was the worst cruise I’ve ever been on.Embarkation
