Great trip by rsrme

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

My favorite part of this trip was in Roatan Hunduras. my wife and I enjoyed for the 1st time a zip line experience and it was totally awesome. The  other excursions were good.  I would recommend trying out other websites for excursions the cruise ship is not always the best choice we did so much better on other websites and yes they guaranteed you back in time. I  would recommend this cruise to others.

12 days and no lobster dinners without charges included... first cruise that I have taken that did not inluded in their menu lobster... by nestornieves

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Room needed to be refurbished... free of dust.  Other than that it was well organized.  Excursion prices where to high... alcoholic drink, or alcoholic beverage where excessively high...

Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

couldn't use balcony paint chips and rust all over ! didn't meet our room steward until i asked on the 5th.day if he was our guy asked for Ice and recived, that was the only time ice was delivered to our room, think the ship was under staffed they told me that this ship will be taken out of service soon, that could be reason for paint and rust, took long time to order lunch @ Lotus

excellent trip, though rainy. by jimloisweeks

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Loved the Panama Canal!  Fascinating!  We stayed on board and there were frequent announcements with historic and technical details of the canal.  Traveled in Oct/Nov, which was rainier than I had anticipated  Dry season starts in December in that part of the Caribbean.

15day Panama Canal Cruise by cami8693

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Our favorite part of the cruise was the 'Discover Costa Rica' land tour. We found this country exceptionally beautiful and mysterious. There were lush tropical forests, rain cloud forests, active volcanoes spouting steam dotting the landscape as we drove to the highlight of the trip, a family owned and operated coffee plantation.

Things that could be improved: Cabin Ventilation system. Our cabin smelled moldy whenever we got up in the morning. This cleared up when the air conditioning system kicked in. We believe this is why we (my husband and I)  came down with the cold just the day prior to the cruise's end.

Other areas of improvement needed: better quality singers for the Stardust Theater Evening Entertainment, additional tv channels in cabins, rotating new movies in and out quicker than the current pace.

I would highly recommend this Cruise.

Total relaxation by Rhopoulson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: North America

Cruising downswell at 12 knots is so relaxing. The usual 24 knot speed makes for more ship movement.

Victoria, B.C. Is a must visit! Such a beautiful place. We had perfect Fall weather with just a tiny bit of chill in the air.

Traveling under the Golden Gate Bridge via cruise ship was on my bucket list and was very exciting. Cheers could be heard from the whole ship as we made the transit. San Francisco was so accessible from the cruise terminal.

A bad start in Vancouver though. Be prepared for LENGTHY immigration and customs. We had priority and were still there 2 hours to clear!!!! Not a fun way to begin a vacation. Then Norwegian greeted us with our conceireige and refreshments. The pampering and relaxation began. Wonderful crew! Bagus, Chris and Yashira, special thanks.

GREAT CRUISE by elestina

Bouchart Garden was the favorite.  It changes with the time of year.  In the spring it was tulips.  In the fall its dahlias.  Its always a beautiful place to visit.

Food too poor, not organized by jill198751

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: North America

Food has very limited options. Buffet foods are the same every day... Only the main dinning restaurant maintains good standard of food tastes, other restaurants serve very crappy foods. Limited varieties.

I don't enjoy the free style of the ship. Less organized, less fun. People come and go. The disembarkment at San Fran was chaotic. We were made to wait in line for 2.5 hours outside of the ship, in the cold outdoor.

Alaskan Cruise by broderpm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Tim Kaminski, the Comedian, was hilarious! We attended as many shows as possible because he was very funny and enjoyable! In Juneau, we took the Mendenhall Glacier tour and was just dropped off the Glacier.  We were able to see a female bear and her three cubs walking nearby where we were standing by the Glacier.  We then took a tram, run by the Tlingit Indians, to the top of the mountain. The two Skagway tours, Yukon Scenic and Street car were enjoyable.  The tour guides were knowledgeable and entertaining. The Lotus Garden food was scrumptious and the service was outstanding! The Summer Palace. Indigo, and O'Sheehan's offered little in selection choices.  The food was not good in the three restaurants listed above. Menu didn't change much from day to day.  On  complimentry dining, additional charges should not be on menu.  Garden Cafe and the Great Outdoors food was just fine. Not impressed with  Beverage set up in Garden Cafe, was awkward.  Have food trays for those who need them. Stateroom was great and our stateroom steward, Parman, was professional, courteous, and genuinely caring to ensure we were enjoying our cruise and alerting us to points of interests like whale watching from our balcony.

Hadn't cruised on Norwegian since my first time to Alaska in 2009...particularly enjoyed the narration by the Ranger while sailing around the glaciers. Wonderful restaurants, food choices, and total friendliness everywhere on ship!!

3.6 rating is a little generous by wrwright707

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Alaska and the Inside Passage was the best part and the reason for the trip but we specifically chose Norwegian because of our experience with their ship out of Honolulu that sails to 4 of the Islands. The Pearl was disappointing in several ways. We were STRONGLY steered to order a wine that was one of the priciest, condescended to when we discussed alternatives. Neither were we offered the wine package. We found out about the wine package by accident when talking with a bartender in the Garden Cafe and was very pleased with the variety offered, with the Zabaco Zinfindel, though highly marked up in price, was an excellent, tasty wine. Wake-up calls were not by phone. One was not done and the second was a soft knock at the door that had we still been asleep, would not have heard and in both instances could've missed our tour. In fact, we were late for one tour  because there was no overhead announcement  that the ship had been cleared and we could disembark and this affected many people. I had called the Operator to see when we could disembark and was told we could not as the ship had not yet been cleared and it would be announced. The Operator was rude.Thankfully; the tour operator , SOUTHEAST TOURS,in Skagway was able to accommodate us several hours later and they were wonderful.  The food in general was good but the real star in the buffet and other eating venues is the staff, except the wine steward in the Indigo. The wait and bus staff are simply wonderful. Friendly, accommodating and efficient. Eugene B. and Mary Grace C. were stand-outs.

We disembarked (ended our trip) in Victoria instead of Seattle and had discussed this with Norwegian before our trip and received a letter (not e-mail) stating this was allowed and what steps to take. When I checked with Guest services 2 days before Victoria to make sure all was in order the problems really began and I was given FOUR  different sets of instructions but not before the first Guest Rep said they had no record of this. Then although the LETTER of Disembarkation STATED staff would assist us getting to the gangway, TWICE, I was told that they did not do that and it wasn't until I told them that I was reading from the letter, they GRUDGINGLY accommodated us. This sort of going back and forth on the phone; down at Guest Services , was very time consuming and frustrating .We were not the only passengers to disembark at Victoria and their experience seemed very similar to ours. Was this rudeness and run-around because we were in one of the least expensive cabins or lack of consistent protocol and poor implementation/ education on the staff's and their managers' part? And BTW; the inside cabin, though small, was perfectly fine. Because the weather can be cold and rainy this time of year we felt no need to have a Balcony or ocean view like in Hawaii and the Mediterranean. So, Alaska was wonderful. The wait and bus staff wonderful. Inside cabin perfectly fine. Guest services~ pretty poor. It was very surprising to see how dirty the back cushions in the booths were in the Garden Cafe. Last but not least; nightly entertainment was excellent . Heads and shoulders above Celebrity Cruise Line.

Alaska September 18 2016 by florhoffmann

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We loved, loved, loved the cruise.  Everything about it was wonderful, the staff was amazing and the entertainment superb.  If I had to mention something that needed improvement I would say that by going to Alaska and salmon being such a highlighted item, I was not too impressed with the salmon served on the ship, but the rest of the food was great the whole time.

Thanks,

Fall inside passage Alaskan Cruise by ballingerwr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Overall was a good trip.  The Ship was nice but smaller than the new ones, it still had plenty of activities, but fewer shows than I am used to (only about 4 nights).  It had some good ports, but too many (see below).  I Booked in the fall to try and see northern lights, but it also allows for more of the Glacier ice ways to be free.  This allowed the captain to take the ship deep into glacier bay NP to get a good look at the glaciers.  Weather was still ok (mid 50s) and the water is calm in the inside passage.  Downside was the extra port.... We left Glacier Bay early afternoon to get to Ketchikan at 6am to leave at noon, to get to Victoria Canada at 6pm to leave at midnight.  The stops didn't allow for time to do or see much, not to mention being there at bad times (real early and late).  I Would have like more time in the Bay and Ketchikan and skip Victoria.

Cruise by rexmt2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Cruise and our elected  excursions were fantastic. Food was more than ample and well prepared, only one meal was bad, and that was just our personal taste, I am sure others enjoyed it.  The smoking in the casino was disgusting, but we just avoided it.  The main drawback on activities was the overlap between events so you had to pick and choose .

Once In A Lifetime... by LaReina83

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

its a "once in a lifetime" trip that must be taken. The scenery is amazing, for lack of a better word! We thoroughly enjoyed the Alaskan ports. However, we were not too impressed with the Norwegian Pearl ship that we were on. I highly recommend this trip though. The views outweighed our opinions of the ship.

Alaska - A most enjoyable "Last Frontier" by denniskeenan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Every part was/is memorable.  The Glaciers are especially impressive.  The cities on our itinerary are all unique in their own way,  And they are all relatively small.  Nice to visit and walk around.

AWESOME TRIP by lesron

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

So different from the Carribean Cruises that we are used too.  The Food is excellent in the Specialty restaurants, especially Cagneys.

The only downfall was that they were painting our balcony while in Port which was inconvenient and it had smelly fumes!!

You should do Alaska by theskinners

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The weather was perfect and the excursions were great.  Alaska should be on your to do list.

As a Veteran, I got very upset because of the way we were treated after our allotted one hour Social which was in a small, noisy area with about 14 of us all scrunched in together.  I noticed the LBGT people had a scheduled meeting every day and no activity afterwords to run them out.  Evidently LGBT is more important than us Veterans!

The Buffet was good but Seafood night was lacking.

I like the size of the Pearl and layout.  The staff were exceptional as was the cleanliness of the ship.
