Schedule was full of activities and devoid of requirements. Specialty restaurants were small enough to be cozy and big enough to allow for reasonable reservation times. Service was always cheerful and available. Suite was very comfortable. Will stick to our Norwegian only plan.

no gold by ltcen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

had trouble getting my husband's gold status.  Kept getting different answers and no one seemed concerned about it.  Took us six attempts to finally get a card that had it on(I had one and husband has traveled with me).  If this is the service that gold members get, don't know if we want to do trip to get to next level.

Mexico trip by samqad

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

Good Day Dear Steven, It was a nice short refreshing trip. This was our third trip to Mexico though shortest one. The passengers were all ages and this mix was also nice and more lively. NCL Jewel 12th floor dining area is better organized in six different isles (not like Holland America where you make long line to be served). The chef prepared more vegetable dishes and were very tasty. The room was small; not easy to walk around. Every now and then there was big noises which I did complained to NCL. When one day was left in cruising then they offered to change the stateroom and offered  a free dinner for two which I refused. Otherwise we had good time. There is a NCL Star cruise is coming in October for 20 days for Asia and Middle East. Can you send some details about cost? Attached also find the final statement from NCL. Are we supposed to receive $50 from your company? Have a great day. There is no place to attach the statement. Send me an email address so I can forward it to you.

The ship was great, the art auctions were terrible by BobMoryl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

I had a great time on the Jewel, the food was great, the entertainment incredible. The bad part for me was the Park West Art Auctions. Jessica and the auctioneer were both rude and not helpful. I wrote to Park West but they never replied. I will never attend an auction by then again.

Never Mind the Lost Luggage by arleneg33

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

The service was great as well as the food (although) I think the "earlier cruises" the food was even better.

Ann Marie was very easy to work with and I have recommended her to a friend for a future cruise.

Porter at the end of the cruise messed us up and it took a lot of time to fix the problem he actually caused by not telling us where he put our luggage!

Mexican Rivera via Norwegian Jewel by rteruel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

It was amazing! The state room was a perfect size, I expected smaller. We didn't spend alot of time in our stateroom since there was so much to do on the ship.  Every night the ship would leave a daily schedule for the next day activities, and shows, so you can plan your day. There never was a null moment.

Some changes by dhomsher

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

We appreciated the streamlined embarking procedures and wondered how the disembarking ones could be improved.  Far too much time in line trying to get through, including a long hurry-up-and-wait time on the ship's deck before being allowed to proceed down the Z-way.

We had the dining package which worked out nicely since we didn't have to pay any extra charges at the now-ala carte restaurants.  However, I can't see how this change is going to net  NCL any additional monies.  The excellent Italian restaurant was empty.

Really appreciated the no-smoking policy!

Great Winter Get Away by jtucker1951

What a great way to erase the winter blues!  Each port was awesome, the food on board excellent, and the entertainment lots of fun.  We can't wait to try other Norwegian cruises around the world.

Fun trip by duttaaa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

It was a fun trip. The crew is very friendly and accommodating. I wish there were more activities  that were exclusively just for the 20-30's crowd. I expecially enjoyed the magician. He's hilarious!!!

Fun Multi-Generational Family Cruise by wellster

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

We enjoyed the shows more than other cruise lines. The Deja Vu Dynamic Duo were fabulous performers and it was fun seeing them around the ship with their 3-year old son. The water slide was a blast for the kids. We enjoyed the food and open dining less. We had great service, although the staff seemed less "happy" than on other cruise lines. We really loved the staff of the kids club and the show the kids put on the last day.

Good food ,good entertainment, great staff by billandjoan211

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

My wife and  were very happy with our trip. The weather was great , the ports were beautiful, the food was good, the entertainment was good, and we were treated very well. On past cruises we have had problems with the food being cold or luke warm. Our food on Norwegian was always warm. The only negative thing was during the day during at sea days, there was not a lot for us to do. We are not drinkers or gamblers. On other cruise lines they have crafts for my wife and movies for us to go to. I think Norwegian should include these as we get tired of looking for whales! Not everyone enjoys bingo and trivia games. At night there was a lot to do that we really enjoyed!

not what I expected by lindabobik

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

We had a beautiful balcony room but the carpet was faded and dirty. Our sliding glass door was filthy. The plexiglas that goes around the ship was really bad too. Could hardly see through it. We had the ultimate beverage package, which was nice. Just get a drink any time you wanted. The food throughout the ship was lacking I thought. We bought a shore excursion in Puerta Vallarta. It was "Las Calitas Hideway". By the price we paid, I thought it would be over the top buy we were disappointed . It seemed really contrived I read all the great reviews for this excursion. Sorry didn't agree. I won't sail with Norwegian again. Ship was kind of tired and warn out. Also, some of servers at the bar seemed like they didn't want to be there. Grumpy and not very nice.

Great Value by ebaum5764

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

My wife and I thought this was a very enjoyable cruise, well worth the price.  The ultimate beverage package saved us some money but be aware that it does not include bottled water or any of the drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) from the mini fridge in your stateroom.  The service onboard was spotty, some great experiences and some bad experiences.  Food quality was good but not great.  We did some specialty dining but found the service and food quality not that much better than the main dining and probably not worth the added cost.  Others must have felt the same way because the specialty dining was not well attended.  There were a lot of things and a wide variety of things to do while onboard the ship.  We did not purchase any of the available onboard shore excursions and instead we just went ashore and took advantage of tours available at the dock.  We had great experiences, met some great friends, and saved a bunch of money by doing this.

First time on NCL by geoffgn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

My adult children and I had a great cruise on NCL Jewel to the Mexican Riviera. I had just sailed on Princess on the same route with my girlfriend so it was fun to compare. Iliked the food a bit better on Princess and I liked that they kept the portions small. I did not like the a la carte dining. I opted for the 3 specialty restaurant package at $70 per person. We ate twice at Le Bistro because it was by far the classiest. Cagneys was our other choice and had filet mignon and lobster which was great. Confusing liquor policy but I got three bottles on board with a corckage fee of $15 each. I like Princess' policy better with one free bottle per adult.

I HATED Princess' giant outdoor video screen at the pool that seemed always at ear splitting decibels. If I want to zone out and watch TV all day I'll staty at home. The giant screen could be a deal breaker which my prevent me from ever going on Princess(or any other ship with these obnoxious screens) again.

NCL seems a great deal at first but they do tend to charge for a lot of extras. A great cruise none the less

Great experience by MsSandy

lots to do onboard.  So you could do as little or as much as you wished.  Loved the party area around the pool.  Lots of people dancing, etc.  we didn't have kids with us, but there were lots of kids on board, there was a big water slide , and activities for them.

You can have a good cruise with some planning! by snawdad

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

I would give the overall rating an "ok" instead of a good or poor. The best part was meeting and watching all the different peoples. The food in the buffet was great. We had a mini-mid ship balcony which definitely helped at a good value and location. Fresh air! The entertainment was good but we were selective about which

we attended. The crew were well organized and the staff friendly. Great!

I will also say that this is an aging ship and not what we would call a 'high end' cruise but that's not necessarily bad. The complimentary dining areas were both good and not so good. The two main semi-formal dining areas lacked the food quality. The service there was friendly but rushed. Good opportunity to dress up though. The wife looked forward to that!

Had difficulty understanding the Cruise Activity Director. Very nice but kind of new in that position? His accent was pronounced. To us anyway.

Yes, an underlying cruise objective is about getting your money. Shopping, deals, casino, drinks, etc. etc. are standard fare for cruises but one does not have to 'take the bait'. You may not see it that way of course. There is great value and great Mexican locations to visit as well! Your choices!

We are "cruised out" for awhile now. Continue to enjoy cruising if you are not.

Happy cruising!

Jewel Review by kenw513

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

The cruise overall was good.

The first thing we did after boarding was go eat at the Tzars room.  The two employees at the door were overly pushing the fact that the buffet was open upstairs.  Don't know if they were trying to avoid working or saving food costs or what.  However, we were not persuaded and had lunch.  The service was poor!  Employees were difficult to understand and acted like it was their first cruise.

Ate at Cagney's four nights.  The food was excellent!!! Not so for the service.  Three nights were filled with slow, poor service.  Employees again were difficult to communicate with.

This ship needs to really work on employee's working skills.  Most of the employee's we had contact with seemed to be lacking the ability to speak/understand English.

Getting on and off the ship was excellent!  The best I've ever experienced with NCL.

Overall, I do recommend this cruise.

7-Day Cruise to Mexican Riviera by Cruiser431

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

1st Cruise I have ever been on.  Ship was very impressive! Lots of activities going on all day for all ages.  Live shows every night.  Entertainment was excellent.  Loved my Balcony Room.  Well worth the price.  Norwegian Cruise Line was very organized. Staff was great and very friendly.  Some even remember my name!  I was impressed with that...Excursions were safe and many to choose from.  You get lots of sailing, swimming, land activities, and historical trips to choose from.  Only thing I didn't care for on the ship was the food. I like to eat a little bit healthier than what was being served.  But, the Brazilian Steakhouse had a great Salad Bar.  Fresh juices at the Juice Bar too!

54 cruises this was worst by relgnir21

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

Went with a friend who required a wheelchair and another friend also.  We had a mini suite which was so small that we had to walk sideways to get to the bed and to go to the bathroom. The third bed was a pull out couch which was so hard it was like sleeping on a rock.  TINY TINY TINY.  The food in the dining rooms left a lot to be desired.  Had a shrimp cocktail which was 4 baby  shrimp so tiny I had to use a magnifying glass to find them.  The steaks were tough and even the maître de had to go to the chef and tell him to check on the quality but each night was the same.  Veal was so tough could hardly chew and the ribs were so tough could not even cut with their special knife.  A banana split was 1/2 banana split with 1 scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate. The only good desert was the warm chocolate volcano and their chocolate extravaganza was pathetic, Did not even offer lobster for one of the meals however they did have lobster as an extra that cost 29.95 if you wanted it   It was available every day for that price.   The French onion soup had no cheese.  The hallways were so narrow could not push the wheel chair past their carts without moving the carts inside doorways and had many ramps to get up to areas.  Some so steep that I almost got a hernia trying to pushg the wheelchair.Norwegian will not get any more of my business.

cost too much in drinking by michaelfu888253

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Mexico

With limit wine and over price beer and bottle water. Make you wonder that NCL is waiting for you to charge you more after you are on board. So far the rest is good a photo cost $24.95. It is become a expensive experience!Angry
