The ship was awesome , brand new and very entertaining. However, the very first waitress we had said she's 'fighting cold'. I got sick 2 days later and it ruined my trip.

Is it safe to assume Norweigian doesn't pay waitresses when they get sick? That's the only reason I can think why the poor waitress was working. It ruined my trip for sure.

Overall a wonderful family vacation.  There were lots of activities to constantly keep the children and the adults entertained.  All three of my boys (17, 12, and 6) loved going to designated kid area on a nightly basis.  My only critique was that the ropes course, spider web and rock wall should have been open more of the time.  We found it closed a lot due to wind on sea days, and on port days it was simply closed with the exception of a couple hours. 

We had a wonderful time aboard the Norwegian Getaway.  We had an issue in the very beginning and the Assistance Cruise Director, Tom, went above and beyond to rectify the situation.  This was my first time cruising with Norwegian and I will definitely choose them in the future!  Carnival has NOTHING on them!

First time cruisers with 12 year old boy and 15 year old girl.  Had a great time.  Pleasantly surprised by the food and loved the eat pretty much any time of day buffet style (with excellent food).  Roatan was our favorite stop, but Belize was also nice.  Mini Suite with Balcony was GREAT!

Overal experience was a very relaxing Vacation.    

The food was good.  There is always something decent available somewhere on the ship.  Are the premium dining rooms gourmet quality, NO.  Is the food decent and edible yes. Are they worth the extra money?  Depends on how important food is to you. I enjoy them more than the basic dining areas, but still if we were at home I probably wouldn't be sending my friends to eat at any of them.

I will say that most of the chefs in Teriyaki, the Hibachi restaurant, were very entertaining. They do go a step beyond the basic schtick seen at most Hibachi Restaurants.  The waiters in Cagney's (steakhouse) were very upbeat and fun.  

The service people all over the ship were pleasant and helpful when needed.

If you are a cigar smoker, the ship has a tiny closet they call the humidor where you can smoke.  It is not a very comfortable environment and it is a bit claustrophobic.

The ship does not even allow you to enjoy your high quality stogie even outside at the Sunset Bar where people are allowed to inhale their disgusting cigarettes. Hypocrites!  

Pool, Waterslides and Ropes course were crowded especially on days at Sea.

Shows were great.  Personally,  I love the Haven section,  It has a private pool area, plenty of lounge chairs, and food and bar service.  Much quieter atmosphere.  It is fantastic if you just want to relax.  If you are willing to spend the extra money I highly recommend it.

Thanks! to dining waiter: Frankie, bar attendant: Heidi, shore excursionist: Marcus, and room attendant: David, we had a great cruise aboard the NCL getaway. The entire crew was awesome, entertaining and very professional.

Miami was hot! However American Airlines was not fun to travel with, rough return home, broken luggage and few rude employees.

Overall, we had fun... that is what matters. Wish they had more destinations out of Boston, MA

Fabulous cruise:We visited Cozumel, Roatan, Costa Maya and Belize City. We focused on scuba/snorkeling because this cruise the itinerary passes over Mesoamerican barrier reef giving us access to some of the best sea life in the WORLD. Overview: great entertainment, great ports, fun staff, very relaxing.

*excursions: we booked them online prior vacation and did not go through the cruise (lessons we've learned from the past). Highly recommend SunDivers Roatan (will pick you up from the pier) and Cozumel H20. In Costa Maya: Taxi is $2 per person to free beach- recommend 40 Cannons Beach. Belize taxi drivers are RIPoff- negotiate with them for $5 if they offer you $20. Bring AMERICAN dolalrs CASH.

*On board Entertainment: Burn the floor dance show was FANTASTIC. Comedy shows also really good. Dueling piano show was so boring (do not waste time). Art auction is a ripoff. Onboard shopping also a ripoff (go to your local department store and use a coupon instead if you want cheap jewelry). I did enjoy participating in the onboard "game shows" and raffles.

At sea days: 30 min wait for a treadmill. All fitness machines taken in morning. I went to kickboxing class for $20 fee and instructor didn't show up! Didn't go back.

*Food: The main dining room was great. We had a specialty restaurant promo package and tried 4 different restaurants. We did not think specialty dining was better in comparison to the main dining. For the week: the appetizers and desserts were fanstatic but the main dishes always fell short, so we always ordered multiple appetizers/desserts. Particularly recommend: pistachio crème brulee, chocolate lava cake, Beef carpaccio*** and Pho soup. At the buffet, The Indian/Asian food was always delicious and the rest of the buffet food was bland (probably because it's frozen). Cookies at buffet a must.   

Highly recommend drinking package promo.

*Room: Recommend balcony room- once you get a balcony, you never go back to interior or porthole. We slept with the door open and heard the ocean at night. VERY spacious for 2 people. limited tv channels: ESPN, BBC, MSNBC, Foxnews. That drove me crazy flipping between msnbc and foxnews. One free movie channel. So when I got sick from eating some bad food in mexico, I was stuck in the room for 5 hours with one movie playing or extreme political commentary  

Overall: you can't beat the itinerary and this cruise made us cruise lovers again due to good food, onboard entertainment, cheap drinks (drink promotion), and good itinerary.

I think the Getaway was a really nice ship.  Lots of dining choices and things to do.  My biggest complaint on this ship would be the service.  It seems to me that the ship is understaffed.  Every restaurant and bar had too few waiters and bartenders to give any kind of personal service.  The waiters and bartenders were not rude or anything like that it's just that there were so few they were very overworked and did not have time to say hello, how are you etc. and you did have to wait longer for drinks and service at the restaurants.  It would be nice if they would promote more people to those positions in order to offer a little better service.  We usually enjoy talking to the waiters and bartenders to learn a little about them and get to know them.  That just seemed really difficult to do on the Getaway. 

The ship is very clean and well organized.  We had a mini suite and the room was very nice with a really nice bathroom and shower.  The entertainment was really good.  Burn the Floor and Legally Blond were a lot of fun and different. 

Overall the ship is very nice I just prefer a little more service. 

We found the staff and crew to be extremely courteous and helpful.  They always had a smile on their faces and we felt so welcome.  As senior citizens that was very important to us.  The food was wonderful, our cabin was more than adequate and I can not say enough about the entertainment and activities.  My only concerns were the lines for the gym and crowds in the pool.  Thank you all so much for your hospitality !!!

Our first time to Roatan.  A very beautiful island with some fun things to do.  Then on to Belize.  Not a very good visit! Had to anchor five miles offshore and tender in to Belize City port.  Belize City is dirty and crime ridden and the excursions take you through parts of it.  Not the best part of our cruise.

Costa Maya was pleasant and Cozumel is always a delight.

Our worst experience was in dealing the ship's cigar smoking policy.  I am a cigar smoker and enjoy smoking a few while on cruise.  The ship has a cigar lounge called the Humidor Lounge and sells cigars from it.  Unfortunately, cigarette smokers are allowed to smoke in the lounge (as well as all the other smoking designated areas) while cigar smoking is forbidden in the cigarette areas.  Many of the ship's staff and most of the officers (junior, mid-level and senior) are rude to the cigar smokers and seem to enforce policy unevenly.

The buffet food is good (I like Carnival's better) but the specialty dining is very good. The entertainment at all levels is very good and mixed drink quality is excellent. 

Overall we had a good time on this cruise.   The crew members were fun and very accommodating for the most part. The room and balcony were extremely small - hardly enough room for clothing.  Our Dining Room experiences were disappointing; very poor service. NCL wants people to use the pay dining room rather than the Dining Room available for no fee.  We felt like we were being nickleld and dimed to death. . .even the evening shows cost $39.00/person.  Since we did not pay for the "Havens" we were treated as 2nd class citizens.  The pool was very small and crowded, there was no place to sit.  People hoarded pool chairs and did not sit in them for the entire day keeping others form enjoying the area.  We never laid eyes on the Cruise Director.

Wouldn't change a thing.  Had a great time!  Staff is phenomenal, they went above and beyond to be friendly and inviting to my 7 year old son who was celebrating a birthday.  The food was great, the drinks were great, the entertainment was great.....can't wait for my next cruise!

I was very disappointed with this cruise. First the rooms sure have gotten smaller.  When we wentto the room, the 3 of us, had to figure where to put our clothing as there were no dressers jut a few shelves. We shared the closet. The safe quit working and had to find somone to come fix it and took about 3 1/2 hours. There was a crying baby next door.  We ate dinner only once in dining room as we watched everybody else wear whatever they felt like wearing but my husband was not allowed in because he had a collared buttoned down shirt that the sleeves were cutoff as it was made. To me that was very pitiful. There was very limited entertainment that was free and as you have paid already why pay again. My husband likes karaoke but was very limited until  last few days on ship.  Next the smoking area on ship--they had a small enclosed area where about 100 people tried to squeeze in to have a cigarette. The other areas to smoke were on 16th deck and half of casino area. The casino should have entertainment in there while people gamble.  It was impossible to get 1500 points in casino so glad I already had drink package. On carnival I already would have had it in 2 days -3 the max. The food was good but nothing great. Embarkment from ship in Miami was terrible. As we always walk off it still took us over 1 hour. As my husband has nueropathy in his legs it was ridicuous.  We have been on Norwegian at least 5 times but this was the worse. We  will most  likely stick with Carnival as they are more friendly and cater to all  not just the Haven people.  Oh yes  my husband had to buy to use steam room  which I believe should be  free to all.  Thank you for listening I hope you understand my complains. Bathrooms were  very dirty.

The Getaway is a beautiful ship. This was our 2nd time sailing her. The main dining rooms were very good but the specialty dining was excellent. The crew members bend over backwards to help you out with any needs. The shows were great! We had a great time in all of the ports as well. Highly recommended!

Love Norwegian cruise line, the entertainment was fabulous, loved the spa, meals were good.  The room was nice as were the staff.  It was our anniversary and spouse had them decorate the room which was amazing.  

The on board entertainment targeted our youngest traveler (10) and oldest traveler (56). The Teen Lounge was a hit! The live band, "Groove International" were AMAZING!!!!!!!!! The" illusionarium" show is a MUST SEE!!!!! (buy tickets early and plan to arrive an hr before showtime for a good seat). The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile to assist. Our two rooms were always cleaned in a timely manner. The only reason this cruise isn't getting 5 stars is because we weren't able to disembark in the Bahamas, due to the weather (wasn't safe to tender). We were credited eleven dollars for the inconvenience. 

The overall cruise was great.  The customer service on board was excellent.  We received a upgrade to our original room, from the 12th floor to the 9th floor.  Not a upgrade, the bathroom was the upgrade, room was above a night club with loud music.  Not able to sleep until AM, because of music.  Brought this to the attention of customer service and they moved us to the 12th floor which was great.  In addition they send us several bottles of wine and chocolate covered strawberries.  Customer Service was outstanding. 

I cruised before with other cruise lines some considered better but were dissapointing. With Norwegian I had a very good experience almost every minute something is hapening. Lots of activities. Great parties ( my adult children and we enjoyed the glow party). 

The shows were proffesional   The team was good

we really enjoyed the stand up shows. As a matter of fact we went 3 times to those shows and they differed a bit each time. We also liked the howl at the moon pianos show and the musical legally blonde

less of our preference was the pianist who didnt know how to sing. There was alao a motown tribute which we really enjoyed. 

The best part is of course the food which is much better here than on the other cruise line we experienced( celebrity and carribean)

The cruise overall is ok, very modern and chic ship, very hip but feels dark and too enclosed, dosent have the big wide open Main Street of other cruises I've been before. Food is not horrible but it's not wonderfull either, just ok. 

The service is good,especially from the state room concierge, very delligent. The entertainment on the other hand is lame. Too much of the 80's music and the entertainment team is not that much fun. Have to say that Burn the floor dance show was fenomenal, don't miss it. There is also a really good kids program my daughter was very pleased with all the activities. If this is your first cruise you'll probably like it better than what i did but having the experience of cruising with RC before I had to compare and will rather go back with RC instead of Norwegian.

Room service: Best you could ask for. Cordial, quick, efficient, and pleasant to hold a conversation with (our room service was conducted by a lovely lady named Jacyntha, from St. Lucian).

Food (and the service): Best you could ask for - literally. We found that the "unassigned" tables didn't bother us at all, but even then by the 3rd night we took a special liking to a man named Stephen from the Philippines so we requested his service for the remainder of our cruise. No one had a problem with it. We ate anywhere from 6pm-8pm and we never waited for his section to open.

Pools: I bring this up only because of previous experience with other cruise lines, but the top deck layout needs to be altered. There was only 1 adult pool, and it was very small. The other pool was for children with all kinds of hoses and jets and whatnot, so that was fine - but for four guys in their 20's, it wasn't used obviously. The rest of the deck was made up of 4 giant water slides, which are fun for like 2 or 3 runs and that's about it. There was a large ropes course up top as well, but half of our week it was shutdown because of too much wind. Other than the 4 Jacuzzis (which were SUPPOSED to be for adults only...) the times when we were at sea all day felt rather unsatisfying. Need more and or larger pools.

Other than that, our time was wonderful. The activities might need some updating too, we found ourselves alone in our age group and many of the activities are geared towards married couples and older. We made do with what was available and would cruise Norwegian again if we had to, but maybe not this ship.
