Something different by WarrenT1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

In general the cruise was enjoyable, thanks to the great architecture of the ship, the superb service, food and entertainment provided. However, we felt that management should have not charged $5 for bowling, $25 for a "specail dining room dinner", $39 [minimum] for bingo and the rest of the 'nickel-and-dime' extras. This seemed petty and at times, annoying. There was a charge of $4 for fresh squeezed juice at breakfast. Instead of charging that, just eliminate the item. The daily info sheet was ill-prepared in certain instances: several times the temperature listed for that day was off by some 30-40 degrees, especailly on Monday and Tuesday when at sea and when landing at Cape Canaveral. The worst thing that many of us were disappointed in was that they ship cancelled the out-island stop. We felt that this was deceptive information and a breach of honesty, because the reason given was that we left the port on Saturday 4 hours late. None of us believe that it was the true reason. Many of us were specifically looking forward to an out-island visit and this capped our reasons [of course, in addition to other significant reasons] at the end for actually booking this trip. The $100 compensation was unnecessary, but instead, the ship should have kept to it's promise.

bad cruise by Alex3

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Its definitely was the worst cruise we've ever been. General organization was bad. A lot of thinks we used to have before, were gone. We understand, that because of crisis everybody tend to reduce the cost, but even such unexpressive think as information was downgraded. Previously, you used to have very useful TV channel with ship location and weather conditions. Now the only source of weather info was daily posters, which always were false and misleading. For example, in Port Canaveral they predict 71 degrees. In reality it was 30. A huge difference, especially if you plan how to dress for the whole day park stay. In general, the whole communication with cruise director was bad. Even safety drill was misleading. Thanks to the Good we did not have safety issues. Otherwise it would be panic.

the best of the best by LuzR1

the rooms were beautiful and spacious. the food was better than other cruise lines i have been on and plenty of it 24-7. the employees on the ncl jem treated my family with the pleaseantries that is expected from a cruise ship vacation regardless of the money we spent to take the vacation. the atmosphere at the clubs mingling with the show entertainers made my vacation a memorable experience i won't soon forget.

needed a duplicate bridge director by William3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Transatlantic

Gem has difficulty dispersing 2400 passengers, so the ship does not seem crowded. It seems anywhere you go it is crowded and the noise level very higjh.

The Perfect Getaway by MarciaG3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

The Norwegian Gem was a beautiful ship. Everything was clean and attractive. The service in the staterooms was perfect, as were the rooms themselves. We had a balcony view which made the trip in the Med.even more enjoyable as we viewed the picturesque islands as we passed by them. The food was good, and we never felt the necsesity to even eat in the restaurants that had an extra cost to them. The buffet was outstanding with a variety of foods to choose from. Every aspect of the cruise was well organized. We especially appreciated the well organized tour excursions and the convenience of the dpearture and return being taken care of by the cruise line. We didn't have to concern ourselves with any details, which made for relaxing excursions. All the tours had great tour guides as well. That all made for great experiences. We have already recommended the cruise to family who are planning on taking the same cruise next year!! We would definitely look for a Norwegian Cruise for our next adventure!!!

A Disappointment by Sandra216643568

This was our first time on Norwegian. We sailed on the Gem. We were very disappointed with the service. It was slow and just not up to par with other cruise lines we've sailed on.

NCL Eastern Med by GailP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

We were greeted with a man handing us a Welcome Aboard drink which we took but thankfully didn't drink as he proceeded to ask for $9.00 a drink! That was just the beginning! If you took anything from the refirgerator in the room, you were charged %18 on top of the cost of the item. We had a room right over the tenders and they banged into the ship all day everytime they were used. We tried to get another room but were told both weeks were booked. We know for a fact that friends of ours on the first week were offered a second week in a room that obviously was open. The slot machines were very tight and paid out litlle to nothing. We went to many ports that we would have loved to explore more but by the time everyone got off, there was little time to see anything but Souvenir shops. The food in the specialty restaurants was no better than the dinning hall. Therefore, most nights the dinning rooms were packed with up to an hour wait. The 24 hour Garden Room served very little that was not cold and dried out. I do have to say that the staff were very nice and friendlyand also the ship was very clean. We have been on other cruise lines and know that this cruise line did not begin to match the quality. First and last NCL for us.

Could have been better by J23314258

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

My wife and I took this cruise for our honeymoon and i think the ship itself is beautiful but the reception staff were very cold and uncaring about your needs. The food was not great and the only restaurant open after 10:30 pm was the blue lagoon which only served the same fast food every day. I have cruised before with royal caribbean and carnival and the food was 10X better. The itineraries were ok, could have avoided nafplion greece and dubrovnik croatia, nothing to really see or do there. My wife and I did enjoy Athens Greece and Izmir Turkey. go to Cesme beach in Izmir, beautiful!!! I want to take another norweigan cruise back in the US just to see if my complaints are mainly overseas in the mediterranean.

I really loved this ship. There was always maintenance going on to keep it in tip-top shape; the food was excellent; the cabins were well laid out; the crew was awesome; the whole hand-sanitizer thing was really great.

Back to Back Cruise by KarenC28

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

The Norwegian Gem was a nice ship. We were a bit disappointed with the number of restaurants that required a 15 to 25 dollar service charge per person to eat. There were 5 of these and two main dining rooms for those not willing to pay again for their lunch or dinner. The entertainment was some of the best I have seen on cruise ships and the cruise director was amazing in how he drew all the passengers into doing activities.

I liked NCL and in fact I am planning to return in October...I pre bought before I lleft the ship. The incentive of $250 deposit and $100 credit is an excellent marketing tool..

Great Cruise by NancyT8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

Well laid out, organized and very clean. Service wasn't great but acceptable. The food in some of the specialty restaurants was very good, especially the French restaurant. It was nice to have a wide variety of restaurants and no assigned seating or seating time. The spa was wonderful.

A wonderful cruise by MariaY3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

We liked the ports we visited, the food was ok, not as good as other cruiseline. We missed the personal touch with freestyle dining without a personal waiter/waitress.. There was no good place for dancing at night and poor entertainment for couples except at the bar. The theatres never had anything good showings......
