For my first cruise I could not ask for a more scenic tour. I would recommend the Alaskan cruise as a must for everyone.

Great Scenery, mediocre cruise line by ChrisD741

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Encore

Overall, I was not impressed with Norwegian. Going in, I had plans to take advantage of booking another trip while on board because you save money, but I just don't see me going back to Norwegian. I was on a Carnival cruise and it was FAR SUPERIOR. Carnival has MORE and better shows. Instead of 1 main show, you saw 2 or 3 different shows on Carnival and they had each show at least twice a night. The theater was larger on Carnival so between the size and offering, anybody that wanted to see the shows could. Also there weren't other venues around distracting you from the show. You also had other venues that had comedians or bands or games or other entertainment. The comedy club on Carnival doubled as a place they gave presentations about the upcoming ports during the day. On Norwegian it was at the theater because that was the only venue that could hold a larger gathering. I did enjoy 3 of the specialty dining restaurants and it did seem easy enough to get in. I also liked the fact that you didn't have to eat at a certain time and your alcohol drink package wasn't limited to 15 drinks per day( although I don't remember coming close to that limit on Carnival) . You could also get 2 drinks at a time on 1 card(alcohol or non alcohol or combo) so you didn't need to worry about having wife's card to get her a drink. The place you could get food anytime was limited in offerings and NO PIZZA. Since the Encore is 1 of 2 Norwegian ships that sail Alaska, you would think there would be a retractable roof over the pool area. That way you could have music parties etc as well as swimming. The Haven area pool( for the really wealthy people) does have a retractable roof for their pool area, at least according to the giant model of the ship they have on board. If you moved dj parties, you could have a venue dedicated to the comedy shows at night. Maybe have more shows allowing more people the chance to experience them. The venues seemed small across the board which meant people couldn't always get in to see what they wanted. There were many different bars on board which may be why some of the venues were smaller.

A Great Cruise!!! by jbaami

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Encore

This was my first cruise, and I have to say that NCL really had there act together. Yes, some of the entertainment was so/so and others ranged from corny to great. The food was fantastic, and staff were friendly and courteous and very attentive. I will definitely cruise with NCL again.

Beautiful scenic Alaskan Cruise by maklamm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Encore

It was a nice ship; not too elegant or fancy but clean and excellent staff. The port times need to improve so you can see more of each town visited.

EXPECTED MORE by tomthepipersson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Encore

Our over view of this cruise based on our overall rating of 4.5 is that all together this was a cruise to remember. However, this does not discount certain facts that would help to improve the cruise and tour experience. Fact One, There must be ample lighting on the balconies, and also a camera on each balcony as a matter of safety and identifying behaviors that are not condusive to cruising on ships that house so many people. Example, people either fall over board, or jump. Loosing one person is to many. There is technology to see these types of things instantously if and when someone puts too much of their weight on the railings of balconies. Also, there must be a much more ready response to save the person that is in jepody. Therefore, Life saving devices should always be on the ready. They can be catapulted off the ship as well. Whatsmore, there are no signs stating "stay off the rails." There also is no emphasis on this matter stated in the safety briefings on board. I say this because I do not want to be on board a cruise ship where someone loses their life. I hear it from time to time on the cruise networks, but nothing seem to be done about it except to only understand and accept their intentional or non intentional fate. Either way, it is a traumatic and devastating experience to say the least.I also think that a service should be offered on board ship for people who are experiencing different forms of depression. There are medical doctors, why not physiologist. It can only help, not hinder the person in crises. Enough said. On a lighter note...I would recommend that in the Garden Cafe a marker be placed on each table to indicate that the table is occupied. Why? Because, it is a big inconvenience when leaving the table whe getting your food or drink from the buffet. Especially, if only one person finds a table first and then goes to get their food. Otherwise, your just left their standing with food and drink waiting for a table. When there are two people or more, you have to alternate. So, both or all people at the table are not eating at the same time. In Skagway, AK., I picked up some attractive rocks at the pier in a parking lot. When I boarded the Encore, Security confiscated my rocks. I asked them why ? The security officer said the state of Alaska does not allow me to. So, I looked it up on Google, and Google says that it only pertains to National Parksvand other restricted areas. A parking lot at the pier is not a restricted area and it is certainly not a National Park. I want my rocks back, no apologies accepted.

Fantastic scenery. Loved the experience. Wish I could have spent more time at the towns. The ship had some negatives, but Alaska is the star of the show.

Breathtaking by missemoo1203016

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The only negative would be NCL not having great Port location and having to be bussed into town at 3 of the ports.

Awful voyage. Would NOT recommend sailing on this ship. by omigrum

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Encore

Awful ship. Not accommodating to older people and people with handicaps or disabilities. Didn't even have closed captioning available on the TV. Smoking area was a disgrace. There was no ventilation at all and they would not allow us to keep the door open. This was my first cruise ever and will also be my last.

Do NOT do NCL!! by guilhelin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Encore

We will never do an NCL cruise again. The food is terrible and doesn't match the areas you are visiting. Forget having any kind of food from Alaska. The service is lacking, your drinks will rarely get refilled, and you may not even get them at all. The ports are all the same and definitely NOT the real Alaska you would see. Just do NOT bother with NCL please go to another cruise line.

Think again if booking NCL for an Alaskan cruise by NothappywithNCL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Encore

It’s a nice enough ship. But do not take it to Alaska. Ports too inconvenient. Not enough time in port. I regret selecting this option.

Alaska on NCL Encore by mjasp

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Encore

This was our 30th cruise on multiple lines, I have no loyalty to any one cruise line. We've been on 3 NCL cruises prior to the Encore, the last one on NCL being 2018. Was not an NCL fan so we stayed away. My daughter and son in law were going on this Alaskan cruise with a few of their friends and a couple of their family members and invited us. We thought it would be fun to be with a few people rather than cruise Alaska alone and they were sailing on the Encore so we booked it. I can tell you that we were so impressed with service, food, cleanliness, entertainment that we bought the Cruise Next Certificates and it just so happened that we were invited to a wedding on the NCL Encore early next year and are now already booked. If you have been on NCL before and are not a fan, give it another try, I feel you will be completely surprised like I was. If you've never been on NCL, go for it! If you want a great agent, Call Kiki Sawyer @ (800) 278-4737 x33623 I hope you leave Kiki's name here.
