Review summary

This was our 30th cruise on multiple lines, I have no loyalty to any one cruise line. We've been on 3 NCL cruises prior to the Encore, the last one on NCL being 2018. Was not an NCL fan so we stayed away. My daughter and son in law were going on this Alaskan cruise with a few of their friends and a couple of their family members and invited us. We thought it would be fun to be with a few people rather than cruise Alaska alone and they were sailing on the Encore so we booked it. I can tell you that we were so impressed with service, food, cleanliness, entertainment that we bought the Cruise Next Certificates and it just so happened that we were invited to a wedding on the NCL Encore early next year and are now already booked. If you have been on NCL before and are not a fan, give it another try, I feel you will be completely surprised like I was. If you've never been on NCL, go for it! If you want a great agent, Call Kiki Sawyer @ (800) 278-4737 x33623 I hope you leave Kiki's name here.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was quite easy

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The main dining, Manhattan room, Savor and Taste were all excellent. For Specialty Dining we did Onda by Scarpetta, it was OUTSTANDING! Looking at the menu it was nothing special to us, however we were pleasantly surprised how fantastic the restaurant and food was and we were happy we booked it. We also did Cagney's, the service, wine and food was again incredible.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
This was a port intensive cruise, so we just did Bingo, casino, the shows and Deal or No Deal, of which I was called up and won $125.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Choir of Man was excellent, of course the Beatles, comedian's and all other shows were fantastic.

Children's Programs

Didn't travel with children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service from waiters, room stewards and all ship personnel was top notch. The service in the Mojito bar which is always packed, was also great. So if you see a lot of guests in the Mojito bar, stop in anyway, you'll be pleased you did.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were in a Balcony cabin and it was perfect for 2 adults. Had everything we needed or could want. Great location near the elevators.

Ship tip

Just enjoy yourself, go up to the Observation lounge for best view and relaxing

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
First time in Seattle so we did the tourist things, flew in 2 days early and explored Pike's market and all the local restaurants and bars around there. We stayed in Hotel 1000 LXR and it was a perfect location to walk to Pike's Place Market. Also not far from the pier.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
In Juneau, we went to Mendenhall Glacier, stayed for a while then walked around town and walked back to the ship.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
This port was great! We did a 7 hour private tour with Midnight Sun Excursions. Raymie is the owner and she is so knowledgeable and knows all the spots to take you. We did Skagway, the Yukon and stopped at the Sled Dog camp, where you can pet the puppies and go on a sled ride and also Emerald Lake which is beautiful, Carcross Desert and much more. You can also talk with Raymie about what you'd like to see and what you don't want to do, customize it to your wants.

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5
Sat on our balcony and went up to the observation lounge. That is all you need, it is BEAUTIFUL!

KETCHIKAN (WARD COVE), ALASKA Did not visit port

We did get off the ship and visited the store at the dock. It's a huge warehouse type building with many items for everyone. It's a very short time at this port, so we just went to the store.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was surprisingly smooth.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise. We only sail Norwegian and this winter we will be on the Encore for our 37th NCL Cruise. Loyalty has perks so I hope you rack up the points and enjoy them!

I’ve cruised NCL and RCCL. They are both great. I like NCL for many reasons over RCCL. I can assure you one thing, NCL is a far better value for your money. RCCL is way overpriced.
