Fifth cruise a winner1 by MaineSusie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

I have been on three other cruise lines and I liked Norweigan. The staff was very friendly, the ship very clean and the activities were fun. I liked anytime dining but the food needs to improve. The two main dining venues were very average. You will get no cocktail shrimp, prime rib or special desserts in the dining room. The menus never change, very boring after a few days. The Blue Lagoon had the same menus for all meals. This forces people to go to the restaurants with a cover charge. A truly dirty trick. I will go to Royal Carribean instead where the food is to die for! One night i got mashed potato which was one tablespoon! Is there anything cheaper than potato? Give me a break!

Mediocre cruise by oceanrider

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

Food was not up to the quality that iv'e enjoyed on other lines. Shouldn't have to pay extra for better food at specialty restaurants. Both Celebrity and Royal Carib gave us a good deal more bang for the buck. Service was very good in all areas, and employees were most friendly. Overall, the cruise was enjoyable. Would I sail with Norwegian again? Probably not. E Loveland

Never Again! by notonorwegian

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

Terrible Experience. Never meet my room steward the entire cruise. Dirty towels on the floor day one; towels were never fully replaced. One handtowel: no facecloths. Holes in the carpet and DIRTY! Food was terrible; tasteless. Front desk staff was clueless; invalid answers given both time they were contacted. The Dawn singers/dancers were less than entertaining-worst I've seen in 20+ cruises. The only + on this vacatin was when we got off of the ship. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Norwegian cruiseline.

50th Anniversary Cruise by Butch1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

We enjoyed our trip both on and off the boat. The staff on board were very attentive, the food was excellent, and the entertainment was very good. Meeting friends who live in Bermuda, made this a very memorial trip.

The Dawn/Bermuda by rayh

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

I have been on four cruises all with Royal Caribbean. Since this is my first time with free style dinning. I didn't enjoy it. The food was good. The entertainment just OK. I liked the way Royal Caribbean ships are laid out, maybe because they are a lot bigger. When making arrangements with vacation outlets, they do not assign room numbers. I think all room numbers should be assigned before you board your ship. They link in with you for the reservation so why not the room assignments. In this day and age that should not be a problem. We did not get our luggage until 7:30pm on the day we boarded, because of no room number listed on our luggage tags.. We went to guest relations twice for no hot water.

Entertainment by Bobby123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

As usual, everything was fine on the cruise except for the evening entertainment. We sailed with NCL several times before and the shows were always super but this cruise had the same "comedian" for three nights out of seven. We found this a bit much. The final nights show, "Bollywood" was so loud it made us uncomfortable just to sit there. I have recommended this cruise to friends and I will again, hoping they will spend a little more thought on the theater entertainment.

Full Disclosure Please ... by SamFrancisco

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

First, the good news ... This was our first cruise on NCL. We were very pleased with the level of service, the accommodations and the quality of the food. The 'freestyle' dining approach is excellent. We had a choice of two large dining rooms and several smaller restaurants. We liked the Venetian dining room since it had a more elegant atmosphere than the more casual Aqua dining room. The smaller restaurants are very nice for a change of pace since they are quieter and more intimate. We also tried one of the 'specialty' restaurants - the Italian restaurant - which was very nice. The specialty restaurants do require an additional surcharge that varies depending on the restaurant. Now the bad news ... Once we were onboard we learned that due to construction at the wharf in Bermuda, our ship would be anchored in the harbor and we would be transported via tender to the wharf. This is a major inconvenience that should have been disclosed prior to sailing. While I understand that changes to the itinerary can be made due to circumstances beyond the control of NCL (unexpected bad weather, etc.). In this case, NCL knew in advance that 'tendering' would be required. This should have been disclosed in advance so we could have taken a different cruise or selected a different sailing date. The 'tendering' caused a lot of problems for people with physical limitations - my wife included. Some disabled people were not able to participate in activities due to the tendering. Full-disclosure by the cruise line should be provided.

Great except for cabin service by Okdeca1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

Very dissatisfied with the cabin service, never did we see our steward, not even sure if it was a male or female. Our friends (2 couples) were on the same deck and had great service. Our bed didn't even have a top sheet, we used the coffee pot and our creamers were not replaced. Our bathroom was not cleaned daily. Our friends had robes, animal towels made daily and state that they spoke with their steward 2/3 times a day. Again i'll say we never met our's. This was our Anniversary cruise (41st) which we told our agent twice prior to departing and NCL never Acknowledged this. Everything else about the cruise was great!

Bermuda in May by froggy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

Sailing to Bermuda in early May was a nightmare. Shifting seas from left to right, thankfully our return was much smoother. Breakfast had great choices, lunch was great but dinner in the Café was disappointing. We choose to eat in the pay restaurant for that reason, was very good. Food is available at all times of day. Evening entertainment was enjoyable, many activities during the day. Or you could choose to chill and read a book. The crew gave excellent service and our room steward was wonderful. We traveled on the Dawn.

A One Time Experience by arothfuss

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

Stay away from staterooms close to the Spinnaker Lounge unless you want to be up all night listening to the noise. Food was mediocre, On board activities geared towards an older crowd. Service was exceptional. Guest Relations Staff were super and responded quickly to our concerns and complaints. Kudos to Stephanie....thank you again.

Never again with NCL by Traveler2013

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

The crew was rude and abrupt. The windows and common areas were filthy. Entire ship smelled like cigarette smoke. The meet at Cagney's was full of "fat". The food overall was nasty. The crew catered to the Indian culture. The drinks were watered down and all can soda's were flat.

Dawn by Sandylane

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Caribbean

We are both elderly,84 and 88 so we could not participate in much of the activities, although we did enjoy the balcony view, food and entertainment and the service of our cabin attendant Mario and dining room asst. mgr Mario Pereira. This was at least our 16th cruise and second on NCL and NCL stands out. We only visited one port, Ocho Rios as we had previously been to Curacao and St. Thomas and did not feel up to going into the others but we enjoyed the experience.

Twelve Days of Smooth Sailing by Crushua

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Caribbean

the experience was thoroughly relaxing. The crew and service people very anxious to please. No attitude. Our favorite restaurant was the Venetian where we were seated promptly every evening. The salmon was excellent! The entertainment was acceptable. I had seen some of the same shows last year on the Boston to Bermuda trip. there should be a change of shows I believe. the piano player in the Gadsby lounge Ariel Jacobe, was excellent. I miss receiving the booklet on the ship services before sailing. I thought the idea of printing out your own baggage tags was ludicrous. However, our bags did arrive OK. The "grab your bag and walk off" is misleading by a long shot. Two thousand people dragging their bags over the decks is not that simple. All in all it was a good experience.

Best Honeymoon and Cruise Ever!!! by frankandtrish

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Caribbean - Western

From Booking to the cruise everything was perfect! It was the best 7 days we have ever had. We will definitely be booking again in the future. This was our first cruise that we have ever taken. We loved the ability to choose between restaurants on board and have a variety to choose from with different themes. The only thing that we thought was good but wished we had been told about as first time cruise people would be the gratuity charge that is done every day. But even with that the options of going to different pools and shopping that is available, to the entertainment that is provided, the bands to dance to or the comedy show was excellent.

Ok, but nothing special by Jaxaroo112

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Caribbean - Western

It was my first cruise, our honeymoon. The food was average at best. The service was extremely slow in all restaurants. The interactive stuff was fun. The organization of guests was horrible, just a big cluster f@*+. The room was very nice and our steward was pretty good.

OK Cruise by EmptyNesters

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Caribbean - Western

sailed on the Sun 2 yrs ago, same time of yr....much better trip, staff and training of staff regarding gluten allergies, plus the halls were much larger, less people = more room in the pool and less waiting time for meals. Dawn accomodates sooooo many people that the pool was overcrowded, not many chairs available, horrid alcohol, could not even drink it, lowsy music in the "dance" club, asked the DJ to play some tunes...his respone, "I'll get fired if I dont play this list". Quality of the food was OK, staff was uneducated as to what gluten free meant...matradie tried to give me semolina flour...he thought it was great for gf people.

Disappointed by cruisingmaryann

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I was very disappointed in this cruise. The attentiveness to guests on freestyle is lacking. Its more of a cattle car mentality. The food and entertainment was fair. Dinners were recycled in the two main free restaurants. You catered to those guests who were willing to pay more at the other restaurants. The bingo was a huge rip off. Not stopping at Costa Maya only added to the disappointment. I would not recommend to anyone. Nor will I cruise on this ship again. Thank you

Love the free-style dining by hapalove4u

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The free style dining is so nice! You don't have to get dressed up every night, and that saves more time to do other things on the boat. There were some great activities on the boat, but I noticed there were more catered to the elderly. I would have liked more activities that were for the late 20's age range. There were a lot of sport things to do and music choices to listen to. It was a bummer we had to skip one port, but they made up for it by giving free rum and punch drinks for a couple hours. I went on the cruise for my honeymoon, and we REALLY enjoyed it. I usually get motion sickness, but I didn't on this cruise (we had really smooth sailing). I would definitely cruise with Norwegian again, it is the best bang for your buck!

Not what I was hoping for. by sallyperry

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Let me start by saying this was my 16th cruise, so I know what to expect, but even this room was smaller than even I expected! Everything was smaller and not as clean as I am used to. Cabin Steward was very friendly, other than that, only three people spoke directly to me, the whole trip, other than bar help trying to sell me a drink. Food was good but needed more variety, in the buffett, that was the only place we went to. NOT enough lounge chairs on the entire ship!!! Ports of Call were wonderful places to see. Star Theatre had the BEST entertainment I have seen on any ship!!!! NCL Dawn will not be seeing me again but we Loved NCL Pearl, so will not count NCL out for another cruise.
