Review summary

We enjoyed this trip and I am looking forward to my next scheduled cruise to Norway and Iceland in June 2025.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
I couldn't believe how fast it was. Amazing!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The Garden Café menu was always good. And sometimes the specialties for the evening should not be missed, e.g., the beef brisket and roasted whole pig. We went to three specialty restaurants - Moderno, La Cucina, and Cagney's - and all three were excellent.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
When we cruise we like to relax with a cocktail and do nothing. We read a lot, go to trivia, watch people dance, and walk Deck 7. But I have to say, I really enjoyed the language/culture classes, e.g., Tagalog and Portuguese.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our cabin steward always had our room done within a few hours after leaving it. All of the dining room staff in every restaurant - including the specialties and complimentary -were excellent except we did have an odd experience at one complimentary restaurant. We felt chastised by the hostess for not having a reservation but then she stated, "We had a cancellation" and seated us anyway. While there at least half of the tables remained empty. We absolutely loved the singing "Wash Your Hands" trio in the Garden Café and the roving coffee and pasty group. They were very cheerful and entertaining early in the morning.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
This was our second time on the Dawn. The poor Dawn appears worn and needs a do-over. We really like smaller ships but we missed having a comfy observation lounge like on the Gem and the Joy.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
A king size bed in our obstructed view cabin was tight. The was only a few inches of clearance between the corner of the bed and the cabinet. After a day or two, I had learned how to maneuver my knees through the space.
