Broken cruise by Buzzy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The work staff on the ship were a little cold.

The rooms on the ship were very noisey for a new ship.

The Balcony was so small you had a hard time turning yourself around, you need to sit at a angle.

The food was good for three days then went down hill.

You could not walk on all the decks they were blocked.

Nobody would wait on you - you had to get your own coffee's or drinks unless you paid for it.

They kept changing the show times so we saw nothing.

The weather was very good.

The Islands were very good.

The dinning you paid for was very good.

relax & have fun by poppop

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The fact the ship left from New York and we did not have to deal with airlines was a great influence in taking this cruise. The fact that NCL lets you do your own thing or take part in the many, many activities on board was terrific. Take your choice of 28 places to eat. The manhattan room (main dinign room) has entertainment and you get up from your table and dance. The food there is good but not great. The food at Cagney"s and La Cucina was great and we would highly reccommend eating there.

The service from the officers to the room steward was excellent.

a ship too big ? by astroptx

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

the QM2 is larger but the breakaway had the feeling of an impersonal

emptyness.

early this year were on a 68 voyage around south america, great time, small ship.

enjoyed all other 34 trips taken with norwegian and the rest.

most of the sesond crusers we talked too had the same opinion, they wont be on

this one again.

What I liked and didn't like on my cruise by Stasyszyn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The cruise was nice, easy on and off the ship, the crew were friendly. Ship was too big, shows were sold out, menu bit of a let down from other cruises.Seems like the cruise line wants you to pay for more and more and gives you less, I don't want to pay for specialty eateries. Bermuda was beautiful, but not enough to do for three days. Liked the touch screens, they, they were helpful.  Next cruise back to the carribean where the water is warm, and the shopping is better, and ship is smaller.

Bermuda Breakaway by KarenD14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Overall, our Breakaway experience was a good. one. The boarding/exiting processes were organized and efficient and our luggage and room were ready early on boarding day. Except for a miniscule balcony which we realized would be petite, our mini suite was spacious with storage space leftover. The bathroom with the large double sink area and large, jetted shower was the best I've experienced on a cruise ship. The boardwalk dining option is an excellent idea, although when we ate at Ocean Blue, rain prevented our eating outside. Seating at the complementary diningrooms was handled efficiently and the cuisine, while good, lacked variety of past cruises. The buffet was tidy and offered many choices of foods during all meal times. As with other NCL ships, the cleanliness of our cabin, restaurants, and other public areas was superb. Entertainment productions were handled smoothly and their quality was good--not the best I've witnessed, but certainly enjoyable. The for-fee cirque production was exception, incidentally. The swimming and recreation areas were quite elaborate, although there were so many untended children aboard that participating in some activities was compromised:  kids on the golf couse, for example, fooled around and kept playing the same hole over and over, preventing others from completing the round.

At Spice H2O, I was disappointed that there was no adult designated swimming pool--a favorite feature of min on the Epic. While visually attractive, the chilly water cascade feature did not provide an adequate substitute for a real pool. While I realize that there is only so much space on a ship, the narrowing of the stateroom hallways was sometimes problematic, especially if a steward's cart was parked there, or if one had to follow a very slow moving individual up a very long hallway. Doing so often resulted in a long line of people "backed up" in a traffic jam-type queue as they wended their way to an elevator. I also question how such narrow halls would fair in rocky seas !

The staff onboard were friendly and generally knowledgeable regarding questions posed to them. Our room steward was "low profile" and kep our cabin neat and clean throughout the cruise. I also appreciated that, unlike former cruises, I was not habitually harrassed by staff selling bar items.

The Breakaway Experience in Bermuda by CruiserA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

This was billed as a cruise in the newest and biggest ship in the Norwegian

line.  And it certainly was big and certainly crowded.  Apparently every square

inch of space has been converted to cabins.  Gone is the imposing theatre of the older Norwgians.  What we have is a large cave with the girders still showing on the low ceilings.  Gone is the social space and cookout area around the pools. Gone is the imposing open elevator in the atrium.  Scaled down is the atrium itself. Gone are the large main dining areas.  Every function is overcrowded: if you want a seat you have to show up an hour early.  Some theatrre areas had virtually no seats at all. Finally, all the art in the cabins and corridors are pictures of dried, brown grass.

Yes, Norwegian has to make a profit, but if you want cruising in the grand old style, avoid the Breakaway.

Breakaway review by DKoehler

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

the layout of the new ship was not very good.  The elevators were in the main hallways in the ship which lead to congestion when walking from aft to the bow on floors 6-8.

The main theater seats were terrible.  there was a metal bar or plate on the back of the seat that made them very uncommfortable.

the crew was friendly but some seemed to still be learning how to do their job on the ship

Norwegian downgraded itself so much on the food, services and shows by tong

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Both me and my husband were very disappointed about this cruise via Norwegian Breakaway.  The food quality was way below the cruise standard.  Everything was prepared and cooked so badly.  The menu was same with only minor changes everyday.  We couldn't choose any food from the menu.  The food at the buffet was like the $9.99 buffet.  The staff was not trained well and all the dining rooms were not organized well.  There was no flow at the dining rooms.  You can see the waiters kept bump into each other and you can see the dirty plates everywhere.

There was not enough shows at night.  Basically there were two shows and the third show has to be charged.

The ship is only 4 months old but the carpets were dirty everywhere.  The table legs at the buffet were dirty and greasy.

We love cruise vacation and we went to may cruises.  We always enjoy the food, the shows and the services and the atmosphere that we experienced in the ships.  We just did not find those enjoyment in this ship.

We went to a cruise with Norwegian Dawn eight years ago, we enjoyed everyting especially the food.  We could not believe that Norwegian was downgraded so much in eight years !

While we can't complain about the cruise itself, we can complain about our treatment. by bobpat98

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The ship, we were told holds over 4000 people. We were told there were something over 3000 on our cruise. In speaking to a number of other passengers, we found we paid almost double what others had paid for the same accommodations. Moreover, we found that others had been given upgrades on boarding, and if we understood it correctly, without asking. We have sailed with you a number of times before. We are silver passengers on your cruise line. Those we spoke to who received upgrades were on their first cruise. We asked the ship manager for an upgrade and were told we could not have one. This soured our whole trip!

relaxing by lubitelofcruis

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

everything was ok but: bathroom light was out and after my request to steward to fix it nobody came, only after call to front desk it was fixed next day. I would recommend to have passengers talents show, more efforts to entertain passengers as studying computer, Photoshop and so on. I liked the seminars on foot problems, weight loss organized by spa specialists, I enjoyed by sauna and salt room, walking on the deck.I was surprised that shows were not free as always been. Still thanks a lot for your efforts.

Well needed vacation! by cruisemom6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The staff was excellent! The captain kept us well informed (although sometimes hard to hear) of the tropical storm and when we were expected to get into port and steered us into sunshine when he could. The ship itself was very large. My daughter and I didn't see all of it during our week. There was more than enough dining and entertainment available that if you didn't have a good time - it was your own fault! I have taken 5 cruises in the past and I was suprised as to how much extra you are charged for entertainment and things that used to be free. Also even though you are not supposed to "save seats" for entertainment, we encountered 2 very rude, loud and drunk ladies saving 3 front rows for people even after staff told them it was 1st come, 1st serve. People who arrive 1/2 hour early should have their choice of seating or be seated by the staff as they arrive. I guess you will have that wherever you go.

New ship, new ways to spend money by lovestocrusie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

This was my 6th cruise, 5th with NCL. Other was Carnival (won't do that again). One thing I like about NCL is that you can sail cheap with a deal of a fare and if you don't want to spend more on the boat you can, or if you have more cash to spend, you can enhance your cruise by availing of the specialty restaurants and other services. Well, the breakaway has them and then some. the food was basically the same as the other NCL ships, but the Garden Cafe is so much nicer. The wife and I only used the main dining room once, being very happy with the cafe. the ship is a blast, with lots more to do, rock climbing one of the funnest and the large elevated jungle jim (what I call it). but no more promenade that wraps around the ships, now there are so many dead ends you will feel like a mouse in a maze. the ship is new and clean, the elevator lobbies spacious. i went on the boat for this specific boat and i liked it. but now i think I will look forward to the Dawn again. sometimes too much is too much and simple is more relaxing. but it was definitely worth the experience. Worth trying out at least once no question about it. Overall I had a great time, as did the wife, crew was excellent and so was staff. well done all!

Bermuda Cruise from New York on Norwegian Breakaway by jrcruiser11214

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

We arrived at the terminal at 12:45 PM. Check-in was fast with no problems. Crew welcomed the people on board. The Breakaway is a very beautiful ship. Food was very good in the Garden Buffet and the Manhattan Room Restaurant. Didn't get to try to many Specialty restaurants but the one that we did get to try (Brazilian) was excellent . Also many of the restaurants have outdoor tables, if you like to eat outside on the ship. The ship has many attractions like the water slides and the zip line. The pool is on the small side but they have a separate pool for the kids. The entertainment on the ship was really nice. They have two discos, one inside and one outside on the open deck. They also have great Broadway shows that you can see like "Rock of Ages" and "Burn the Floor'". I like best the Cirque Dreams & Dinner Jungle Fantasy. It was a really unique experience. The weather was fine except for one day that we lost due to a tropical storm. We were lucky to get 2 days in Bermuda out of the three that were scheduled. Took a tour of this beautiful Island and visited the tourist attraction "the caves". The second day went to the beach near the dock. Wanted to go the the "Horseshoe beach" but didn't have time. Will go next visit there. The tropical water was very beautiful. We did some souvenir shopping in Hamilton and even bought some perfume unique to Bermuda. I forgot to mention that the crew was very nice and courteous to everyone. Overall experience was great and would definitely recommend this cruise to everyone.

Family reunion by Dollycon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

We booked four Haven suites for a family reunion . Four family members coming from England others from California party of eight total. We were celebrating a 60th.wedding anniversary. We purchased in New York several bottles of Champayne, and wine. We knew that there was a $15corkage when binging it into the restaurant that was accepted however, they charged when you drank in your suite. We have cruised many times NEVER have we been charged For drinking in our suite. The accommodations were very nice, Staff very helpful. Food was very good, something needs to be done about the noise factor. We were totally amazed that a brand new ship Would not have addressed acoustics. Some restaurants we were in we could not have a conversation because of a noisy table near by. The Casino was very smoky. I doubt very much that we would travel again on Ncl unless we get some feed back from Lulia Preda Asst.Maitre D whom Said he would check into the corkage charge and get back to us,never heard from him again. The ship is very nice, plenty to do. The shows were the best We have seen on a cruise line. Jim/Dorothy Bennett

too many extra charges by frances1023

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

i may sail the cruise line again but not this ship...too many extra charges and long lines...balcony was the size of a postage stamp...not worth the money...bathrooms were fine but I would have preferred a bigger balcony...many extra charges for room service..long lines for the dinners...too pricey for the extra restaurants..entertainment was not consistent...no Bon Voyage either going or coming home which surprised me..definitely not a party ship..too sedate for me..I want my cruises to be fun...have not idea who the cruise director was..never saw him..also, i kinda like the idea of set dining option..you get to know the waiters and I like when they dance and entertain at the end of the cruise..made it more fun..anyway, that's it...

Average solo cruise on PACKED ship with loud and rude clientele by Crou

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Embarkation/debarkation: very good Food: average in complimentary dining rooms (most often good, sometimes very good but too many "misses") Entertainment: Pool Band, Fire and Ice good. Missed Rock of Ages, this is bound to happen when you have to reserve.... Studio cabin: nice and kept clean Studio lounge: nice with complimentary cappuccino and pastries Solo hosting in the Studio Lounge: average Public areas: ultra packed and noisy on sea days Clientele: too many loud and rude people on this ship, and I was not prejudiced before embarking... For the price I paid, I was disappointed with this cruise. I got much better value on other cruise lines.
