Much better than I expected !!!!! by peg07039

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The ship, Breakaway, was beautiful, the cabin was pretty with plenty of storage space for 2. The balcony was small, wish it had been bigger.

Lots of activities and the shows, Rock of Ages and Burn the Floor were terrific.

We had the upgraded dining package and our favorite restaurant was Teppanyaki.. Moderno was a very close second. We also loved Cagney;s and La Cucina.

The buffet was pretty good, but at times very, very crowded and very difficult to find seating..

I loved the waterfront area and also 'Maltings" lounge.

The staff works very hard and could not do enough to make your "voyage" as pleasant as possible.

The biggest downside was the disembarcation.  It took over 90 minutes of standing on a very long line which snaked around deck 7 to finally exit the ship. I suggest that improvements be made immediately, it was so frustrating to stand on an endless line and it almost spoiled an otherwise wonderful week.

We also loved the private island of "Stirrup Cay". We had a great beach day and the barbecue was a lot of fun.

Music, music everywhere on the ship and the sound of music just added to the fun atmosphere.

My husband and I would definitely book another cruise on "The Breakaway". My sister won the same cruise in November and I told her not to be surprised if we wind up joining her for another fun filled week..

The convenience of leaving from NY cannot be beat and the views were spectacular !!!!!

Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We took a family vacation with 9 people and 1 three year old it was a great time the ship is beautiful and the staff could not have been nicer and so helpful.  The food was good a couple of disappointments but nothing that bad.  I would recommend this ship to anyone looking for a relaxing and or fun filled week.  I'm going back in November

ncl breakaway by jeyork123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

We stayed in the Haven and our experience was fantastic the service was superb! The service all over the ship was great. However if I could not stay in the Haven I would recommend a smaller ship like the Dawn.

the not so good cruise by johnnowaski

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The cape canaveral and the private island stop were a waste of time and when we got to atlantis they said we got there too late to get an umbrella chair. We also were supposed to get something called an adult pod but none knew what it was.

service was good with few exceptions by dwyantsmith

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

our Stewart in our room was awesome!!! he made our trip wonderful! Most of the staff was great, friendly and helpful. a few staff were short especially during dismemberment a could were rude and it was chaotic. I loved stirrup cay that was amazing, however I don't recommend sitting I front of bottom level unless you are prepared to be soaked. The food was good not great, very limited menu choices but service was good! We didn't do specialty dinning as they seemed pricey. The drink prices were high a coors light was 5.95 and with taxes and gratuity it was almost 10 bucks each. I got a bloody Mary one morning and it was 12.95. the ship was nice but there was not much to do. They had bingo but it was pricey, cheapest level was 40 bucks to play 3 regular games, however the callers were great. Most of the activities cost money in addition. There is a pool area but it is very small when you have over 4000 ppl on a ship and one pool for adults and a area for kids. there was 4 hot tubs that held up to 6 people at max. in the H2O there was 2 more the same size that was limited to adults but they were almost never assessable and the pool was usually crowded.  while in port a lot of the service areas are closed most of the bars and dinning were closes while we were in port. if I was to go again I would probably go out of Florida so I was not on the ship as long or just fly into a destination as I felt there was not enough time to explore the islands and there was not much to do on the ship.

Good Experience by mikkidam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I really was dreaming about Norwegian Cruises, but I was a little disappointed by the Casino team. I am a gambler and most of the  evening I spent the my time in the Casino playing craps. The Dealers were mean and all the time they spoke their  own language and were laughing. I don't know what the reason was, but it was not a very good feeling.

But overall my experience was good except for what I have written about for my Casino experience.

Thank you.

Norwegian Breakaway cruise by dwright7429

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The service was great the staff took care of every need, this is my second cruise with Norwegian in 12 months will not cruise with anyone else. I like the freestyle cruising with not being assigned a time to eat along with not sitting with someone I do not know. The breakaway is brand new and I really don't have anything negative to say.

Relaxing trip by hilltsj

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The cruise ship is beautiful. We have been on a Disney cruise, and 2 Carnival cruises prior to this cruise. Nothing compares to the service and enjoyment on the Disney cruise. I had heard that Norwegian was a step up from Carnival, and appearance wise I guess that is true, but the service is definitely not. Our room steward was awesome. But the restaurant staff is not very friendly in any of the many places to eat. The food takes forever to get to you, so plan on waiting for a while once you are seated. This was true of not only the free restaurants but the specialty ones as well. The food was good, but no better or worse than on any other cruise line. The entertainment was good, there was always something going on for the adults. We were with our son and his 2 friends, who were all 19, and there was not much to keep them entertained. There is a special area for little kids, a lounge for ages 13-17, and everything else is 21 and older. Left the boys a little bored at times, especially since we went in early March and the weather was pretty chilly and windy on at sea days so it left them inside a lot. I think they should designate a lounge for that age group as well. We stayed in an inside stateroom to make the trip cheap for the college boys. They had a stateroom adjoining ours, which was convenient. The rooms were small though, even just for 2 people. But the bathrooms were nice and surprisingly not as small as expected. The private island was my favorite, beautiful and relaxing. We visited the Kennedy Space Center on the Port Canaveral day, which was really cool to see. We had been to Nassau before, and it was ok.  We really wanted to try the ropes course, mini golf, pools, but it was always too cold and windy. Overall, a good trip, but when travelling from New York, I would not recommend leaving in a cold weather month. It can really restrict your ability to do things on the outside of the ship, and with a few days at sea on the trip, this was disappointing.

cruising with NCL by patcbergstrom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

the one issue i did have is how casual other guest dress for the main dining rooms.

they were in the dining rooms with sweats on.

i do not like sitting next to someone who just came from the gym or looked like they just got out of bed.

i understand NCL is all about free styling - but some have taken this to a new level that i do not like.

Did not meet my expectations by barbt1206

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I've travelled Carnival 9 times and Royal Caribbean 2 times. This is the first time cruising Norwegian. The dancers were good and the one solo guy (Arvan) was excellent. Other than those two, the entertainment was not good at all. I paid for a dinner show which I've never done on any other cruise because they didn't charge for the same type of dinner show and it was horrible. The show was average at best and the meal (that I paid for) was the worst meal I had on the ship. The food menu was small and the same menu for 3 different dining rooms. As I am easy to please with food I ate everything I ordered but the food on the other cruise lines was better. I did not like the freestyle dining because I had a different waiter every night. On all of my other cruises I had the same waiter and helper for the entire cruise and they really took care of me and we built a personal relationship. There were so many things that Norwegian charged for that my other cruises didn't. I still relaxed and made the best of it but I would never cruise Norwegian again. Life is about options and I opt to cruise with Carnival and Royal Caribbean. I would not recommend Norwegian to a friend.

Never Again. Worse Vacation of my life. Waste of money! by ferretmommy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Never again will in travel with this line. Repeafly overcharged my card for false things, room card and bank one, instead of enjoying nasseau I was inside on the phone with my bank and the front manager due to a $300 false charge out of my bank account, after I'd authorized $80. A bit off!!!! And they wouldn't fix it, said I had to call my bank which I did. They could charge it but not fix it???? After wasting an hour of the best day of the 7 day trip ( when we got to nasseau) I got the fraud fixed. Cold buffet food, gambling, seemed to be a complete waste of $$, including bingo. Suck out all the money they possibly can, watch out!!!! Bed was equalivent to sleeping on a piece of plywood. Couldn't sleep hardly at all. Balcony was useless, so tiny it wasn't worth having to say the least. Same food every night, nothing special. Except I will say Taste, was delicious. They had the best options. If you could get past the wait and being judged upon arrival by front staff. Charge a mandatory tip amount each day. Room service knocked at door, while I'd try and nap, die to sleepless night on the plywood (comfort level) bed. Never recieved any patil refund or anything after this hell.

Get away from winter! by rbammert5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Took the upgrade to Spa Suites in the Haven and it was great.  Service was excellent as well as the company. Being able to use the Haven lounge was such a perk as well as the private sun deck and pool area. This trip was the perfect time to get away from old man winter and enjoy the warm weather of both Florida and Bahamas.  The ship was great and we were so busy doing things it was awesome time.  The week was over way to soon.

Not sure we are Norwegians... by wsdavid13

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The cruise ship is beautiful and very large; the staff is good.  The rooms were very nice; the person that made up our room everyday was great!!

We did not like the freestyle dining because we always had to wait in a line to be seated; also the seating for a table of two seemed to be in poor locations.   The bar service seemed slower than we expected.  Dress codes were not enforced for the nicer dining room.

The entertainment was impressive and enjoyable!  The Rock of Ages show was very entertaining, although if its for adults only, that should be enforced.  The show was definitely not for children.  The Circus show and dinner was awesome...definitely worth seeing!

Overall, it was a good vacation getaway!

Large Ships vs Smaller Ships by nanaof2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I can honestly say I am not a fan of the LARGE ships.  Let me say we are senior citizens and my husband is leagally blind.  We have been cruising now for 24 years and are not novices.  We found that the Breakaway is just to big there are so many people going in every direction honestly not watching where they are going,  To go to dinner and then a show is an outing.  We will continue to cruise but try to stick to the smaller ships where it doesn't take an hour to set back to your room if you forget somrthing.  Let me also say the ship is beautiful, the service good, and the staff frienfly and helpful.

Norwegian Breakaway Bahamas Cruise by jbitler01

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Ship is beautiful.  Food is excellent.  Entertainment is excellent.  Not enough quiet space.

Very crowded.  At times way too noisy. One room in particular (The Atrium) was far too small for the activities held there.  It was adjacent to Guest Services and a bar and café.  Norwegian really must relocate these activities

Debarkation could have gone a lot smoother.  Norwegian blamed it on customs but I have a feeling this was not the first time there was a delay in leaving the ship.  It is a lot of people to process.  I believe our experience was the norm.

Mailloux Experience by rdross3990

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My family and I had a great time on the cruise.  The food was delicious. The staff were outstanding ! However if we could do anything different we would pick a cruise that would spend more time at the Islands. By the time we disembark the boat got a taxi and got to our destination we didn't have much time to spend relaxing before we had to make our venture back. Overall everything was fabulous and I was treated like a queen
