Good Cruise by janani

Angry

The worst part of the cruise is the dissembarkation in NY. It was a Chaos, INSANE.

Breakaway hasn't learnt a thing. I was on it a few years back and the situation was similar. They have an extreamly poor disembarkation policy. They don't have clear instructions for luggage tags and luggage pick-up or waiting lounges prior to disembarkation. People were not following any order and walking on the ramp with two and three huge suitcases. It took over an hour to get off the ship, 40 minutes of which was in the cold. This STUPIDITY of Breakaway takes all the good 14 days fun away. THEY NEED TO FIX IT!

Cruise director DAN DAN is incompetent!

Great enertainment, ports and state room but dining hit or miss. by toddkris

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Shows and entertainment were very good with lots of variety for all ages and likes.  We loved the variety of port stops but wish re-boarding the ship was later in the evening as actual time between most of the ports is only a few hours, 5:00 departures is to early.   We had a family balcony suite which was great with plenty of room and the bed was very comfortable.  Our room steward was awesome and very friendly and helpful.  The dining on the ship was overall pretty good but was very disappointed with both Taste and Savor dining rooms, The menu is the same as the Manhattan room but service and quality were not even close, it is like they train the servers at Taste and Savor before moving to other areas in the ship.  The Brazilian steak house was incredible with good service and very good food.  We spent a lot of time at O'Sheehans pub the bartenders where great and the food was always tasty, it was a great spot to watch over the Atrium shows also.  The unlimited beverage plan definitely has a flaw that other cruise lines do better, they do not allow any coffee beverages on the plan, so if you think you do you don't.  The sun decks have lots of space and we were always able to find chairs to lay out when we wanted to.  There were not many servers on the decks but lines at the deck bars were fast for drinks.  The water slides are great and give you a good cool off with some fun.  Overall it was a great time and would go with Norwegian again.

could not bring any liquid on board by crusepro

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

I only drink diet root beer soda and they took 12 cans in new York . very bad. I also use a cpap and have to use distilled water. had a hard time convincing guy at check in to bring 14 bottles of water on the ship. had to show my machine to prove I needed it for that. good thing I never let my machine out of my sight.

Fun in the sun by petrosky1945

Weather was terrific.  Food was great and the drink package was a nice bonus.  The cabins were adequate and exceptionally well maintained.  The cabin steward did a fantastic job and the entire ship was clean and smelled clean!  The corridors were not entirely handicap friendly.  Seemed narrow and wheel chair did not fit through cabin door. I would do it again.

14 nights cruise to Caribbean islands on Norwegian Breakaway ship by Bimba

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We bought this cruise via . The cruise itself was great - the ship, the cabin with the balcony, the personnel, entertainment - everything was great. The only one reason why we are supposed to refrain from using in future is - we paid processing fee $25 but were assured that the onboard credit $100 will be granted if the payment for the trip will be done before December 31 2016. We paid on time - December 29, called to  and agent assured us that onboard credit will be available whe we will embark. However  the ship customer service inform us that we do not have onboard credit. On our request they contacted and received confirmation - no onboard credit for us....Otherwise - again - the trip was excellent.

Norwegian Breakaway 14 day January cruise by emcgill86799

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We were so lucky with perfect weather on this cruise.  This was our third cruise on the Breakaway and we were VERY disappointed that the Uptown Grill is now Margaritaville.  We went to the Uptown Grill EVERY day for burgers for lunch.  The place was always hopping and SO much fun. PLEASE bring it back!!  I have to say we did not even go to Margaritaville even once.

nice vacation by nursestacey

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This was a large boat with many activities.  The bars and food were good but I see a trend being headed towards taking every opportunity to up sell their guests.  That is fine to a point but I have noticed a bit of decline in what is offered in the "complimentary restaurants".  A cruise is supposed to include all of your food with options for sit down and buffet style service.  The food in the main dining room was good but I am appalled that nearly the entire right page of the menu has things that cost extra!  This was not the case on my last cruise with Norwegian in 2015.  I had cruised with Carnival and Princess prior to my first cruise with Norwegian in 2015.  I noticed a definite difference with the quality of food on Norwegian and was very impressed that there were several options of included restaurants.  There were at least 6 restaurants on The Breakaway for "a la carte dining" compared to one main dining room and 2 small restaurants all serving the same menu.  I feel for the money I spent for my room, there should be more included options.  I did enjoy most of the food greatly.  I did also notice that the food served on the buffet has been increased in quality and options which is refreshing.  One other design flaw in my opinion of the Breakaway is the location of the casino.  The casino (and the fact that one is allowed to smoke in there) is positioned in an atrium areas that covers 3 floors and the sour smell from the smoking permeates a very large area.  Over all the activities and entertainment were wonderful.

January in Southern Caribbean by Aliiok

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The weather was spectacular for all 8 ports of call and most of the other travel days; just one bumpy night and cool transit day back (the ship seems to handle rough water very, very well).  For the number of passengers there were very few incidents of overload, although embarkation lunch and debarkation breakfast tested the limits of the buffet.  There are many other dining venues available for all meals which are very pleasant alternatives to the buffet.  Dining room service for dinner was spotty in all non-specialty restaurants.  The special offer "Drink and Dining" packages are an excellent value which make it difficult not to return to Norweigan for your next cruise. Casino area is a good size and seems to have room for all interested passengers.  Norweigan engineers, however, should do a better job of cigarette/cigar smoke removal from those areas where permitted since that odor permeates a larger area. Guest Services and crew (as well as the captain) all work very hard to please you. We look forward to doing it again very soon.

Entertainment on a 14 day trip was hard to fine! nothing on the cabin tv but the same repeats all 14 days! It would be nice while waiting to go out to dinner or even trying to go to sleep at night to watch something on tv other then the same four shows shown  24 7 for two weeks straight.

Jan 15,2015 NCL Breakaway cruise by spafsue

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Entertainment on the Breakaway was excellent.  Our cabin service was not as good as we always had on NCL.  Was disappointed that they now charge for room service and food in the main dining.  Embarkation was great. Disembarkation was terrible.

Great service and attention. Manhattan Restaurant a place to eat, sucks that they removed Lobster from their menu, now you have to pay for it (24.95 + 18% gratuity), I will have it on my next trip with Carnival.

Otherwise wonderful experience, People going out of their way to please you.

HappyWinkYummy, will do it again, trying always different ship.

It was a good get a way for a winter vacation.  The islands was beautiful and people friendly. The bar tending staff is amazing.  They remember you and what you drink by the second day.  Our Stewart Gail bent over backwards to work around our schedule.

Disappointing Ship by hshackford

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We sailed the Gem last year so we were expecting a similar experience. First disappointment; there is no big lounge at the bow. The front is occupied by the Haven section. Second disappointment, The public seating is terrible. The cushions are hard and most seats are too deep for back support. Most seating is in high traffic areas so it is difficult to find a place to curl up with a good book; especially in the first and last sea days where it is too cold to be outside.

The cabin, a mini-suite was very nice with a spacious bathroom. The shower is very large with a rain showerhead and 6 horizontal jets that you can direct to different parts of your body. There was no chair and the couch was again too deep for comfortable sitting. The outside deck was average; just deep enough to sit facing out.

The entertainment was OK. The theater was surprisingly small, only one level, and the headliner shows had to run over a couple of days so you lost some theater days as a result. The best entertainment we thought was the duelling pianos. Again, that was an uncomfortable venue that had wooden chairs with no seat pad arranged in rows like a theater rather than a typical small table setup.

Service was OK. Cabin attendant was not friendly and we had to repeatedly ask for things to be re-stocked. She did keep it clean though.

For the most part the meals were good in the complimentary dining to excellent in the extra cost (Cagney's steakhouse was the best).

No problem finding seating around the pool. Drink service was good but the music was a bit loud at times in the afternoon. We did not do too many excursions as we chose to make this a chill out vacation. See below for a bad experience.

All in all we adapted and made the best of it and did have a nice relaxing vacation but I will probably not sail on the Breakaway again.

GREAT SERVICE AND ENTERTAINMENT by Cruiser16700257

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

ENJOYED THE ENTERTAINMENT (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF "ROCK OF AGES"  NOT OUR CUP OF TEA. WENT TO SEE "WHAT A NIGHT" TWICE.  STATEROOM WAS PERFECT FOR US.

AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, THE CHAISE LOUNGES BY THE POOL WERE TOO CROWDED AND ALSO TOO LOW FOR US SENIORS. NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL. AND DON'T THINK THAT WE SHOULD BE CHARGED FOR PEPSI OR GINGER ALE.

Enjoyed a 14 day southern Caribbean cruise on the Breakaway. It was an amazing trip. Wonderful cruise crew always met with smiles and have a nice day. Food was OK not exceptional. I had a very nice balcony cabin on the 11th floor. We had a wonderful der full cabin steward Velma. We are taking the grandkids on a cruise to Florida and Nassau on the Breakaway in the fall.

Winter break by ldfinkelstein

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I went on a very similar cruise on the Breakaway last January (too similar). They used 90% of the same shows. While the talent is good you would like some variety. Otherwise, it is the same large but not exciting ship that does take you to beautiful islands. They continue to cut back on food choices in the main dining rooms unless you are willing to pay a hefty supplement. I was on the Star last Spring and thought it was a nicer ship.
