Review summary

This was a relaxing and enjoyable cruise, which was educational in a way, because we get to see how people in other countries live.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Great, although it was busy and crowded because we were embarking with the other larger HAL ship, Oosterdam, at the same time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
our meals were all enjoyable, because of the care and attention we received from the crew.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The presence of a priest on board made it possible for us to fulfill our spiritual duties while enjoying our vacation.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
HAL band and dancers performed really well, even beyond our expectations.

Children's Programs

We didn't have a young child with us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
This trip was made enjoyable because of all the crew members who went out of their way to make us comfortable and well-fed.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
This is one of the older ships of HAL, and it shows, although clean and well-maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This room, called "Lanai" has a sliding door that opens up to the walking deck, with reserved lounge chairs by the door.

Ship tip

The layout of the showroom in the upper floor is not well designed, and one has to be in the room well ahead of time, to get one of the few choice seats.

Ports of call

San Diego, California

5 out of 5
Didn't do any excursion because we are from California; the port is busy, but well managed.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
We did the sunset dinner cruise which we can recommend to other cruisers.

Huatulco, Mexico

4 out of 5
Our excursion didn't measure up to our expectation.

Puerto Chiapas (Tapachula), Mexico

4 out of 5

Fuerte Amador, Panama

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the excursion we did which went through the "old" and "new" Panama city.

Salaverry (Trujillo), Peru

4 out of 5
No, but the ship offered shuttle buses to the city, so we explored the area on our own.

Callao (Lima), Peru

4 out of 5
The tour we took called "Lima City by Night and Light/Water show" was well worth it. The light show was spectacular, the best we have seen so far.

Manta, Ecuador

4 out of 5
This is an industrial port so not much to see at the port itself. We took the city bus to a tourist spot at Montecristi.

Puntarenas, Costa Rica

4 out of 5
Took an excursion that took us to coffee plantations and the city. It was good to see how people in Central America work and live.

Puerto Corinto, Nicaragua

4 out of 5
Nothing extraordinary about the port, but the tour we had, took us to Leon, which is one of the most traveled city in Nicaragua. The Cathedral, and the view from atop the Cathedral was worth seeing.

Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala

4 out of 5
Our excursion took us to Antigua which happened to be very busy with church goers because of the Lenten Season. It was great to see and be exposed to the customs and traditions of the people,

Manzanillo, Mexico

4 out of 5
We took a city tour and had stops at arts and handicrafts area, where shopping was great!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
Busy port, with tourists everywhere. Took a private tour which took us to tequila factory, and had lunch at a mountain resort which we enjoyed very much because of the scenery, with birds and flowers in the area.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Well organized.
