The Holland America Maasdam was a terrific, older ship that was small which allowed it to get into every port we tenders! The staff could not do enough for their passengers: the food, entertainment and general atmosphere of the ship was superb. The ports of call were great and I was impressed that we either docked in town or there was a free shuttle to take us to town (with the exception of Victoria) 14 days was the perfect length for this perfect vacation!

Cabin / Stateroom
lots of storage, big bathroom by cruise standards, did have a tub/shower combo with a pretty big step to get into it

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska we were not able to go here as there was too much ice from the glacier. The captain, though, did take us to another glacier instead that was qite nice
Juneau, Alaska
took a excursion to Mendanhall Glacier but not through ship's excursion. The ships excursions were quite pricey
Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska
I had visited here 10 years ago and there was absolutely nothing here except an old canning factory that was no longer working. They have really added a lot to see and do in this port although most everything was very pricey. I would not take the shuttle into Hoonah as there is nothing there
Seward (Anchorage), Alaska
we booked a ride on the Alaskan Railway that went to Grandview and back...but again, on our ow, not through HAL. Scenery was beautiful but it was almost too long of a ride
Homer, Alaska
Kodiak, Alaska
Cruise Hubbard Glacier
Sitka, Alaska
Victoria, British Columbia

The ship was very easy to get around. The staff was fantastic. Entertainment was varied: there was something for everyone. My favorite place was the Crow's Nest with its large windows and excellent view of the sea at the front of the ship.
