Review summary

We had a great experience on the Jewel of the Seas.  This itinerary put us in a different port nearly every day.  The islands were beautiful.  Each one had its own charm.  Port days were a little short, but we had plenty of time to get a flavor of each island.  There was a delay docking in Barbados, but the Captain extended our stay to give us more time there.

The service on the Jewel of the Seas was exceptional.  We were spoiled by the good care we received from our waiter, Sucorro.  The staff accommodated my wife's need to eat gluten free. They all understood what is required to prepare gluten free meals.

The embarkation was the best we have experienced of any cruise line.  There were no long lines to check-in.  Our cabin was ready and our luggage delivered quickly after we boarded.  The cab dropped us off at the terminal at noon and by 2 p.m. we were settled in our cabin and exploring the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

My wife is a celiac and must eat gluten free. The staff understood her needs. The chefs provided lots of good gluten free options and also prepared special meals for her.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
There were two good dance bands on the cruise, Remedy and Coco Loco. But all the dancing was scheduled in the Centrum. It was too crowded and the floor was uneven. We were surprised the Safari Club was not used for dancing. It had plenty of seating and a real dance floor.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Most of the show times conflicted with other activities or were scheduled too late. The cruise director, John Blair performed a tribute to Neil Diamond that was very good. There were two different comedians booked, but we were not interested.

Service and Staff

We had the same waiter every night at the Tides dining room, Sucorro. He provided exceptional service along with Anna and Alicia. They really spoiled us. One night we were too full for dessert, so he offered to send it to our cabin for later.

Cabin / Stateroom

This cabin has an L shaped balcony that gives you a wider angle of view. It is on the starboard side facing East toward the islands as the ship sailed from Barbados to the north and west. We had good views along the way.

The vendors here were very aggressive. Even on our catamaran sail to the Pitons, vendors in small boats clung to the side of our boat. The tour guide warned us not to buy conch shells. They are not allowed on the ship.

Spent 22 days on Jewel in October and it was wonderful. Ketut is a beverage server in the theatre, diamond lounge and on the pool deck. He is the best from any ship RCCL has.
