Awesome cruise vacation

Sail Date: June 05, 2015

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

This was our third cruise to Alaska.   Jewel of the Seas was a beautiful ship with lots of lectures available about glaciers, fish & wildlife, and even 2 about Canadian Mounties. The cruise director and his wife, who was the activities director, were really fun people.  The shows were great. We booked our excursions from the ship and all went smoothly. It was our first time seeing Sawyer Glacier and it was worth the trip.  There is never any control over weather, but it was the 60's and sunny every day.  We would highly recommend this trip on Jewel of the Seas.

Ship Quality
Very clean, bright & beautiful
Food and Dining
Cabin / Stateroom
Service and Staff
Our cabin steward, Lamech, was friendly & effecient. One the first day we had some special requests for the week and he took care of us and more.
The enterainment was good but, we have been on other ships that had better shows. It's just a matter of personal taste. The band for the shows was excellent...probably the best band on any ship we have sailed.
Destinations and Excursions
Even though this was our 3rd trip to Alaska, we did all different excursions. The 3 hour White Pass train ride in Skagway is a must. It is the best way to really see and experience the beauty of Alaska. We saw bears and other wildlife from the train. The Sawyer Glacier was breathtaking. The ship turned several times to get great views. The Tracey Arm Fjord was gorgeous. We could see mountain goats & sheep on the sides of the hills. Victoria is one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in Canada with lots of gardens.
Seattle, Washington
Seattle airport was easy to get in and out of. City tour was information.
Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska
Lots of natural beauty and wildlife to see in Inside Passage.
Juneau, Alaska
The Mendenhal Glacier is a must see. Lots of hiking opportunies seeing small wildlife and Alaskian flowers
Skagway, Alaska
We did the White Pass Train ride. The train was enclosed with very large windows. The tour guide was great with lots of historical information, legends, & stories of the Gold Rush days. The trip was pricey but well worth it.
Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska
Breathtaking scenery and lots of wildlife, seals, eagles, mountain sheep & goats. The Sawyer Glacier was the high-light of the trip.
Victoria, British Columbia
We took a city tour combined with the tour of the Castle. The parks were beautiful with blooming gardens. Near the end of the tour, we had the bus driver let us off in the city. We toured serveral buildings & took some great pictures, then walked about 2 miles back to the ship. Very friendly city.

Before you book a certain room number, make sure you are not over a lounge area. They play music until about midnight. We didn't find the Sea View café until the 6th day of the cruise. They had the best sandwiches and snacks.
