A cruise with both Good and Bad by BlissP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The internet is not adequate or out dated equpiment on this ship becasue it did not work well and was very expensive. From my experience with the internet on different ships this was the worst ever, very, very slow and the prices Princess Cruises charges for the internet is to say the least outrageous and dishonest. The Shore Excursions were way over price and not worth the money. Most of the staff was wonderful however the front desk people were not so great. They lacked professional training to deal with situation out of the normal, they are very ridged. Example I gave them the wrong credit card to settle our final account and during the process of runing the credit card I discovered it was the wrong one and they could not switch it or reverse the charge and charge the correct credit card! On three occasions our son was delivered raw hamburger and one time before we noticed he has eaten about 90% of a raw hamburger and ended up getting very sick and going to the short stay hospital in Acapulco with a diagnosis of food poisoning most likely casue by the raw hamburger.

Highly recommend his cruise by RickT

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Generally the ship is well appointed and very clean. It's a bit smaller than the giants, being of the "Panamax" class which is actually nice. Things are run in a very organized and competent fashion.

Go only for the Panama Canal by MaryS44

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Checking in was fine. We got there a little before 11:00 am and only had to wait 20-30 minutes. The cabin was an inside cabin and we liked that it had a separate closet/dressing area. From there it went down hill. The service was terrible. We went to the main dining room mostly and the servers were very unmotivated. I like lemon with my water and NEVER did I get it on the 1st request. We had anytime dining and there was only a minimal wait if you were willing to share a table. But if you wanted to sit by yourself you waited 30-45 minutes. The food was marginal. Most of the soups were tasteless. Several dishes I sent back. I never remember doing this with Royal Carribean. I also did not like that they did not have a wine package. The average bottle of wine as 40. plus 15% gratutity. The Panama Canual partial transit was the best part of the cruise. We also took the excursion Panama Canal by boat and this was the best. Did the full transit by a smaller boat. The ship is nice but there didn't seem to be very many activities. They have alot of trivia if your in to that. We ended out watching alot of movies. There movie selection was good and we like the big screen they had on deck 14. The Spa is a joke. They advertise one price and charge you another. It seems it is all about how much they can charge you not what the customer wants. I would not pick a Princess ship if I had a choice. There are too many ships out there that are willing to pay attention to what there customers want not what the crew members want to offer.

A security concern and not handled prope by KarenJ99384756

steward? We have demanded action of our situation. I spent 'hours' on the ship to discuss what we saw as a security issue, upon disembarking day our beliefs became a reality. Now off the ship, I phoned to discuss situation (asking for action for the saftey of other)..I was told to write a letter and wait 2-4 weeks for a response. I'm in awe of the insantiy of this situation....not to mention the health risk of the (hmmm virus?! truly what kind?) As our first cruise, we were very impressed. We so enjoyed our balcony room - there was so much to see. The wait staff was wonderful, both in our room and the dining room. Everyone on board was so helpful when we had questions.

We had a great time! by JulieZ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was our first cruise and we will definitely go back. There was plenty to do while at sea, and the crew was all friendly. The food was great, too! When shopping - be careful to buy only made in Alaska. You have to search it out, but most of the souveniers are made in China. It's worth it to pay a little more to find the genuine article. Also look for the locally owned and operated shops when jewelry shopping. Most of the jewelry shops close up at the end of the season and go to the Caribbean, but there are some locals. You'll see signs in their window indicating they are local.

A wonderful Cruise by weissnora

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We just came home from a wonderful vacation cruise with the Princes Cruise Line on their beautiful Island Princess ship. The cruise was extremly fun and relaxing and we enjoyed every moment. The food was tasty and served with lots of charm and variaty. Our Suite was cleaned 3 times a day and we have only praises to the staff that took care of it. Entertainment was fun and with lots of variaty and convenient locations and times The itinerary was excellent and very interesting. The staff was friendly and with a positive attitude which gave us a homely feeling. We had a great experience and we definetely plan to recommand this cruise line and this specific trip to Alaska. We can hardly wait to book our next year vacation and this time to the medeterenian.

passable cruise by JennyA2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Small ship service great but food was pretty bad. We have cruised many times and this was a first concerning their meals. We also tried dining in their restaurants on board and that also was a big disappointment. On numerous times we mentioned that it was our Anniversary and my husbands 65 Birthday and it fell on deaf ears!! Also his Gluten problem was poorly coordinated with the servers creating even more of a disaster with his already tasteless meals. Our travel agent also never sent our coupon books which they stated had been sent out before our trip. I must say though the service was top quality and we were reimbursed for dining room fiasco. We heard from other passengers that the Holland line was excellent going to try them next time.

Grrrrrrrrrrrreat!!!!!! by TerryA4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We took an Alaskan cruise on the Island Princess. We are novice cruisers since this was our second cruise (the first was 28 years prior), so we do not plan on doing any comparisons. We can say, however, that our cruise was a truly wonderful experience. We especially liked the ability to choose anytime dining and received the same excellent service as those who chose specific dining times. We also were surprised that we were able to reserve a specific table at a specific time with a specific wait staff so that we could continue to dine with the super people we met at dinner one night. Our dinners were lengthy due to our own fault. Our wait staff were very patient with us and I think they also enjoyed the fun we were having. The food was excellent and the presentation was that of a fine restaurant. The entire ship staff made this cruise even better. They never failed to say hello and their smiling faces were inviting - made us feel welcomed and appreciated. We also can not say enough about the ship captain. He and his staff made our voyage even more memorable. During our cruise into glacier bay his ability to manuver the ship calmly and quietly was amazing. You would have thought we were floating on air. He made sure that everybody was given an opportunity to view all of what glacier bay had to offer.

Fabulous scenery! by ToddP2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Beautiful ship kept very clean. Rarely felt crowded. Some of the railings had been removed for maintenance, and some others were in need of revarnishing. We had wonderful clear sunny weather the whole week, but if it had been too rainy, foggy, or misty to see the mountains, glaciers, forests, and wildlife the experience might have been quite a bit different.

Enjoyed Island Princess & Itinerary by MarkS18

Sail date: / Traveled as:
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Design and layout were beautiful, although needing some attention. Outside rails in bad shape, Major objection was the dirty windows in public areas. On sixth floor they were clean and you could sit an view the beautiful scenery. But other floors, and on the Horizon Court food level they were very dirty/streaky.
