Summer family fun by SSaintclair

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Independence of the Seas

This was a fantastic family experience we do these once a year where we get together with a lot of our family and cruise together. Royal Caribbean definitely has plenty of things to appeal to every age group.

Marginal Cruise by jomabi12

Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I guess if you want a cheap, short cruise, then it isn't horrible.

Royals gone downhill by quinnlefeber

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas

Had a great cruise despite some service issues and gross food/poor drink selection. We bought the beverage package but quickly discovered the majority of alcohol brands they advertised were not available. Was told they were only serving limited alcohol selections. Food quality gross except for specialty restaurants. Ship but as also not maintained well. Junior suite was spacious. While we had a great time we both felt royal has gone downhill compared to carnival or NCL. If you book a Royal cruise go for the newer ships as that is where they are putting the money and better staff, etc. the ice show was great. Grease was hilariously bad. The actors were miscast and not good. I was entertained for the wrong reasons.

Always Nice to Cruise! by dewball

We love cruising. Yes, some things could be better. But we're still aboard and loving our time. Can't wait to plan another.

NOT the same food quality at all by ssjodin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Independence of the Seas

Except for food quality and taste and being a little short-staffed……it’s the same Royal and I will remain loyal.

Nice ship but too many party people by bud4dale

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Did a b2b this time, a 3 day and a 4 day. The 3 day was not as enjoyable as there were a lot of young people, large groups and kids. Made for lines at the bar, casino and dinning room. I guess weekenders but I will not do a 3 day again

Nice Getaway by ekraig

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

While it was a short cruise, any cruise itenerary that includes CocoCay is a win. That place truly encompasses the “Perfect Day”, as they tout. The weather was perfect for us as well. Early to mid June is a great time to go.

Great short cruise by DeniseHangs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas

Great short cruise. Lots of activities for athletes, but not much for older folks. At least not many included. Would have liked indoor showers and changing areas on Coco Cay, but loved Captain Jacks, beautiful beaches and water. Food, even in specialty was just good, but better than dining rooms. Grease was amazing and made up for other things lacking. For a short cruise that is port intensive, it is very good. Better than many.

Packed by vacation2022

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Very disappointed for our first cruise experience. Many things that we know now that we would do different if we were to cruise again. Maybe it was not the right ship for our family. Maybe we picked the wrong time to travel because it was so packed? We saved and worked so hard to take this cruise with our kids and just wanted it to be more memorable and less stressful .

Holiday weekend by bubbles60

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas

The trip was ok, we went with family and had a great time. I was not pleased with self serve buffet returning and ship was crowded. I dont think in would go again on a holiday weekend. The drink package and other add ons such as speciality dining is expensive compared to some other lines.

Quick Review of Independence of the Seas by raifieldc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas

Just got off the Indy yesterday. Had good time because I was on vacation, but there were definitely some issues. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but but weary if you win a Royal Up bid. I bid the absolute lowest amount so I was not expecting an upgrade. On our way to Florida, I received an email stating my bid had been accepted and we won an upgrade to a Balcony cabin. So when we got to the hotel, we reprinted the boarding information with the new cabin number. The next day when we went to check in for the cruise, they couldn't find us under the new cabin number. They searched our names and found us listed under the original cabin number. When we asked what was going on we were told we had to go to Guest Services. Nothing puts a bad taste in your mouth like having to visit Guest Services right after getting onboard instead of enjoying your vacation. We spent an hour in line because there were many people with issues after first arriving. We were then assured our upgraded cabin was the correct one so we went to enjoy ourselves. Several hours later everyone had received cabin keys but we did not. So once again we had to spend 30-45 min in line in order to get cabin keys. The ship hasn't left port yet and we've already visited Guest Services twice. The rest of this day turned out good other than several times we ordered drinks only to be told that they were out of several things. The things we know they were out of was white wine, Johnny Walker, all draft beer except Heineken and ingredients to make a mojito which I'm assuming was just the mint. Maybe it's just me, but if you know you are out of so many drink items, should you still be charging people full price for drink packages? Day 2 we go to Playmakers and enjoy some appetizers. We didn't know to tell them that we have Unlimited Dining because every other restaurant had that information in the computer. We ended up getting charged for our food. Well now here's a third visit to Guest Services in order to get that fixed. Luckily there wasn't a line this time but the lady helping us thought Playmakers wasn't included and had to ask a supervisor. The supervisor assured her it was and instead of just taking off the charge she called Playmakers to find out why they charged us. We were told it was our fault for not stating we had the Unlimited Dining. 10 minutes later, and it was fixed. We also had several other issues with meals at the paid dining venues. Johnny Rockets was understaffed and extremely slow. Nothing like immediately getting your fries and onion rings, but having to wait 30 minutes just for water. 10 minutes after the water the burgers came and another 10 minutes we finally got melted milk shakes. Chops and Giovanni's was not worth the money paid. If I didn't have the Unlimited Dining I would have been even more upset about those meals. We only ate in the MDR once and that was after the bad meal at Giovanni's and it was really good. We wished we had just ate in there all weekend as opposed to eating at some of the paid options. Izumi and the last night in the MDR were the two best meals we had. Izumi was probably the best hibachi meal we've ever eaten. We didn't ever make it to see the ice skating show, but we did catch the juggling comedian Scotty Cavanaugh and the production of Grease. Both of those were definitely worth watching and I highly recommend them. It was vacation, so we made the best of it, but just know they are short staffed and having lots of supply chain issues so experiences may not be what you are used to having.

The perfect breakaway by dnbhill1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas

Overall we were very satisfied. We can't find much to complain about. However, we believe RCCL is still in the recovery mode for example no stock in RCCL store, unpredictable meals in MDR and mass confusion getting off the ship on the last day. Hopefully with time they will be up to snuff. We will see in our August sailing.

fun time on older ship by tazntom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

It was a short cruise for us which attracted a younger crowd which adds life to ship activities. I love Coco Cay and I'm glad Nassau has had a money infusion and the port area is being modernized, I know people will complain about getting back to ship, but that is temporary till new port building is complete.
