My husband & I decided that we would travel the Independence in February 2013 for our birthdays. What a great decision! The ship was really nice & the staff was fantastic!!! From our stateroom attendant "Wendy" to our dining waitstaff EVERYONE was fabulous!!! The locations were beautiful, the weather was amazing!!! The food on board is delicious!!! Every meal was outstanding! We travelled the same week as the carnival triumph mess and boy were we happy to have chosen Royal Caribbean! Great job everyone!

Independence of the Seas Caribbean Cruise Review by mikenickols

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

No King ever had a more luxurious dining room to eat in or more attentive servers. The flow rider was awesome, the shows were Broadway class especially the ice show. The Solarium pool and the cantilevered hot tubs were fantastic. Out of over 20 cruises our best to date! Our balcony room was amazing.

This Cruise Delivered by thenickels

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This cruise was every thing that it promised to be and everything we expected. The food was delicious (and generous). The entertainment and on board amenities were as advertised. And the staff was very helpful and outgoing. This was our first cruise and will, more than likely, be our last. We are glad that we tried it and are grateful for the experience, we are just not cruise people. We'd rather spend a week exploring the history, nature, and culture of ONE place, not little snippets of 5 places.

Excellent experience by lovingthesun

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Being our first cruise, we found this exceeded our expectations. From the stateroom to the dining room and everything between, the Royal Caribbean knows how to provide the best travelling experience. Now we know why people say they are hooked on cruising! Our stateroom attendant kept our room tidied each morning and evening, and left a towel creation that impressed us each day. The meals we had at the Windjammer were so varied we never had to eat the same thing twice, but because it was so good, we did! The meals in the dining room were exceptional - and made only more special by the people who waited on us, and made every evening a magical time. These crew members went above and beyond to provide a personalized and caring experience, sharing tidbits of their lives and making us all feel so special! The entertainment was enjoyable, but it was challenging to find seats unless you could arrive at least a half hour before showtime. The Royal Promenade was always fun to stroll, and there was delicious baked goods at Cafe Promenade and an awesome pizza/salad bar at Sorrento's. The activities available are endless and in 8 days we still didn't get around to doing all we wanted to. An ample library provides plenty of reading material while sunbathing. The days we docked were also exceptionally enlightening; tried to do a tour of each island stop when possible to get a feel for the local culture. We chose the "My time" dining and that worked out very well for never having to wait for our reservation. We would definitely consider a cruise again and would definitely travel Royal Caribbean again.

Truly a memorable vacation! by luvmygirls

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This was my first time on a cruise...I can't imagine it getting any better than the Independence of the Seas. The staff on board are exceptional, from our housekeeper to the waiters they were all so friendly and personable. In fact our waiter in the dining room each night did magic tricks for our children and made them special straws every evening for their drinks. We had a hard time saying goodbye on our eighth night..wish we could have brought them all home with us. The activities on board are numerous..our children were younger so they really enjoyed the kids club as well as the climbing wall. We didn't get enough time (believe it or not!) in our eight nights to go skating or try the mini golf...its on our list for the next cruise. The ports were enjoyable...a warning to any first-timers that the vendors can be very pushy and no one does anything for you without expecting payment. ie: some locals have monkeys they will put on your shoulder and let you take pictures with your own camera and then demand money for that privilege. IF you don't feel like dishing out mula for every monkey that passes by its best to say no from the start. There is a vast array of food and variety. We bought the pop card so we could have unlimited pop for the week, but found that it really wasn't needed as there was access to free drinks (lemonade, iced tea, flavored waters, coffee, tea) most hours...especially when the Windjammer is open. When it isn't, there is always free ice cold water at Sorrento's, who by the way, make the BEST pizza! We really really enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to book another one! This cruise is great for all ages....its luxury and fun on the sea!

Room for improvement by ddearob

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

overall we had a good time on this cruise their was however room for improvement which is why i might give another Cruise Line a chance for our next Cruise reasons: We found the wait staff in the Wind Jammer to be Top Notch smiling friendly and helpful the people behind the food who hand u coffee juice etc were miserable cranky and never smiling i was afraid after day 2 to ask them for anything they just looked so mean then their was the problem printing boarding pass to our flight home in the internet cafe it took me nearly 20 minutes to get it done @ 69 cents a minute and no Crew members in the area to help passengers (Might be a good idea to have a crew member their to help people with this) as i saw alot of other people struggling with the internet 's exstreamly slow pace on board we missed one of your shows to get through this and the people in customer relations? cranky as well also the food in the Wind jammer usually cold =( the at nite dinning was excellent as well as the dinning crew the were suburb but i have to say we saw or met as many cranky angry looking crew members as we did happy polite and friendly crew members so returning to Royal Carribean id say is a 50 50 chance. Thankyou Mr. Robert J Riggi Room #9602

Independence of the Seas by PauliePowell

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Relatively positive experience -- ship is beautiful and very well maintained. Interior Cabin -- with the exception of not having a window, the cabin was wonderful. Cabin Stewards were excellent and value for cost was excellent. Entertainment -- very good. Shows were not great but were enjoyable, Pyramid Lounge and Labyrinth Night Club were great with live entertainment nightly. Food -- the food was good but not great, yet value and quality, matched with the service experience was excellent. We enjoyed our servers and the other guests at our main dining room table so we saw no reason to go to specialty dining rooms. Ports of Call -- very enjoyable excursions in Grand Cayman and Jamaica, and Labidee was very relaxing and beautiful. As a final comment for those attempting to make a decision on Royal Caribbean, my wife and I agree that every facet of the Royal Caribbean experience is far better than Carnival in any level of comparison. We are looking forward to experiencing The Oasis or Allure of the Seas in the near future.

Independence of The Seas first cruise. by 1sttimecruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Royal Caribbeans employees went all out with their service. The balcony stateroom was excellent and very clean. There was a variety of good foods to choose from at the Wind Jammer Cafe' and all of the other Dining Restaurants ( a large variety ). Plenty of Entertainment and Onboard Activities to do for the young and old, hard to take them all in if have Shore Excursions planned. P.S. Loved the my time dining.

Excellent cruise and cruise line by ThomasWatkins

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My experience on Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Sea was excellent. The ships staff was very friendly and attentive to my needs. The food service and variety was excellent. I enjoy the entertainment and particularly the ice show. Royal Caribbean gives your the "royal treatment", and compaired to other cruise lines ranks up there as one of the best in value and services.

Great Cruise Line with many amenities, the room quarters were kept very clean. The character of the crew was friendly but not too friendly(thank goodness). An updrqade of food to the Freedom of the Seas level is required.

Great cruise! by KathrynR

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The ship was beautiful--the art work throughout, including the Shakespeare themed dining rooms, enhanced the layout. Sparkling clean, with a state of the art workout facility, topped with a serene chapel, the Independence of the Seas is our favorite.

Royal Caribbean has beautiful cruise ships and the Independence was wonderful. Lots of activities for the kids and adventurous. Gorgeous lounges and public areas to spend time in. We had a great mini-suite with veranda and loved our balcony and room time.

A Cruise in July... by BarryA1

This is the third largest ship of the RC line! If I had not been on the largest one, the Oasis of the Sea, I would have had no comparison.
