Not sure if I will cruise with this cruise line again. There were to many negatives. Our first day was ruined because of the fiasco with finding a cabin, and then discovering our cabin. Couldn’t support all of us comfortably and having to deal guest services so much
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Embarkation went very smoothly. My son has a disability and the customer reps were very helpful. However, once onboard the nightmare of the day began.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The Main dinning room was beautiful. The staff was very forum but pleasant. Food was mediocre, often we had to ask for it to be made hotter. In the last day of the cruise it was much better. We ate breakfast in windjammer one morning and never again. It was horrible. So we got up each morning to eat in the main dining room. The drinks tasted decent but with most drinks costing $13 before the added 15% gratuity to each drink they came to $16-17 a drink. We are grateful we aren’t heavy drinkers!
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
The kids loved the slides, the pools were to crowed to really enjoy. The Skypad was Broken the entire cruise. Which was a bummer because my son was looking forward to this. Also many of the games in the arcade was broken as well. Very disappointing.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We really enjoyed the shows, they were great! Grease, the welcome aboard, and comedy are must sees. We also loved the venues playing music. Great talent!
Children's Programs
3 out of 5
Lots for kids to do.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Room stewards was great, waiters very friendly, other ship staff was friendly but didn’t understand what we were asking half the time.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
If I have any complaints about the ship is the layout. We couldn’t find our room on the 3rd floor because of studio B was right between the area. We asked the staff but no one told us how to get there. A teenager gave us directions on how to get there. SMH, sad! The ship was very clean and well-maintained
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Our first Cabin was very small. They gave us a room really all comfortable for 2 people. With my son having Autism the bunk bed handing from the ceiling wasn’t going to work. I told them when we first booked about his disability. So after going to guest services for the fourth time they were successful in finding us a much better alternative.
Ship tip
Know this, you will be charged 15% gratuities on everything extra, food, drinks etc. and then they’re gonna still charge you $16 a person a day in addition gratuities
I've been on the ship and loved it. I can understand the issues you had with Royal as I've read many complaints when it comes to people with special needs. Into have special needs and I always make sure they know everything I need but it doesn't always fall into place. As a travel agent I always go over the rooms with my clients and often google the room. I'm sorry to hear your cruise wasn't everything you expected. Don't give up on Royal, just like all suppliers they to have issues.
I do research all my cruises, which is why this one was so disappointing. I booked through a third party and was supposed to have a cabin with a sofa bed and that isn’t what I received. I also notified my agent about my special needs and received an email from RC that they had my accommodations in the system, But thank you for the feedback.
If you had researched the rooms available on the ship you could have chosen a different room that had a sleeper couch instead of a Pullman bed when booking. Also, you do have the option while checking in before the cruise to notify the cruise line of any special needs of any kind. I have back issues that cause me problems sleeping, I notify in advance so I have a topper on the bed to make it easier to sleep.
I’ve always had a great experience with Royal Caribbean. It’s always important to research and use a cabin that is large enough for everyone in your party. If more than 2 adults are traveling together, 2 or more cabins is always best.
