Grandeur cruise to western caribbean by Cruiser234

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We enjoyed all of the ports of call on this trip.  Since we had taken this cruise a couple of years ago we did not take any excursions this time.  However, we did our share of shopping in each port.  It would be nice to add another port to add some variation to the itinerary.

Royal Caribbean New Year's Cruise by lkwan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall a fun trip but bjtravel booked our 2 rooms in different hallways and thus separated the kids from the parents when we were assured that the rooms were across from each other.  The cruise was at full capacity and they couldn't change the rooms.  Customer service on Royal Caribbean was not very good. There were a lot of activities to keep everyone busy. Food was so so.

Very nice cruise by rickykromer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a very nice cruise. The ship was clean and comfortable, and the staff was awesome! Service was always excellent, and each night's entertainment was fabulous. We were especially impressed with the dining wait staff in both the main dining room and the Windjammer buffet, especially in how quickly they cleared and turned the tables in the Windjammer. The spa was very comfortable and relaxing. The only area that left something to be desired was the Park Cafe snack area, which frequently needed restocking in the evening (glasses, ice, drinks, etc). We were very lucky in that we had unseasonably warm weather and calm seas for the beginning of our cruise, but weren't as lucky the last two days (not unexpected in January), so anyone taking this cruise in the winter should be aware of the possibility of rough seas and cold weather, especially your first and last day or two.

Hilarie . You did a awesome job planning our ten day cruise.

Everything we did was great . The weather was warm leaving Baltimore and all of our stops were wonderful. We thought that Labadee was  one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited. We had a little rough day on the way back due to a Noreaster but the bars were open and so was Dining.

We thought the ship was beautiful and we loved the New YEARS celebration.

Paul Rudder the ship Activities Director was terrefic.

Ten days of fun and sun. Great Job!

Christmas Cruise by tsmcgee1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I would recommend this cruise to any family with children! We celebrated Christmas with our grandchildren and they had a ball!  The staff was very friendly, especially if you luck out and get Tanesha as your waiter...she entertained the kids and they looked forward to seeing her everyday.  I do wish that we would have had more time in Nassau than a 1/2 day.  Yes, the rooms and showers are small, but after 11 cruises it's no big deal. The headliner show was stale and lacked vitality! I agree with other reviewers that parking at Baltimore is stiff...$15 per day! Also, if stopping in Port Canaveral, don't sign-up for the Kennedy Space Center off the ship.  Instead, reserve a rental car (shuttles are frequent) as it is cheaper and more convenient than having to be shoved in a bus and leave when they want...it also gives you more freedom to explore the area!

Excellent vacation but if you have active kids please read... by bssusen123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

First, this was my first cruise and it was absolutely wonderful.  Royal Caribbean truly does a fine job of making sure their guests are taken care of.  The food was spectacular and service unreal.  Amazing how the crew members remember you each day.  We had purchased a drink package for my husband and myself (highly recommend if you drink...because remember you are on vacation and a beer averages around $8 and a cocktail is more and unlimited bottles of water).  Our balcony room was roomy enough for 2 adults and 2 teenage boys and our stateroom attendant was awesome. Additionally, there was always something to do....activities galore from 10am to 11pm daily especially for adults.  However, for our 12 year old and 14 year old very active boys there was not much for them to let out their energy.  The only real physical activities this ship had was rock wall climbing (only open periodically through the day), the pool (which is a little small and crowded on this ship) and a 1/4mile track.  No basketball court or area to play a sport as my boys like to do and they refused to dance..of course.  So we will definitely cruise again and on Royal Caribbean but although Baltimore is a great and easy port to go through, we will have to find a ship and port with more physical activities.

Vacation by mssmiley0315

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Love that we have a port within a 2 hours drive to hop on a cruise ship. The Grandeur of the Seas was a great ship with a outstanding staff that were above and beyond along with being very clean. Only thing I wished was that they would have had more activities for the children who may have not been in Ocean Adventure. Would have loved having basketball and of course putt putt which would allow younger children to be involved since you have to be 6 to climb the wall. Arcade was really tiny and pricey.  After sailing on the Freedom of the Seas with a ton of activities and things for the kids it was definitely different. Ocean Adventure staff was awesome for the kids and my 9 and 5 year old loved every minute being in there and didn't want to leave and would beg to go back when they opened. Windjammers cafe wait staff was wonderfully friendly and I enjoyed learning where they were from and taking time to thank everyone of them.    Couldn't ask for better service A+

A Great Way To Spend Christmas! by dad70

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

All in all we had a very enjoyable cruise.  Every member of the ship's staff that we encountered was very pleasant, upbeat and helpful, especially our cabin Steward, Igede.   The food was good, although we thought that the menu selections on some nights was limited.  We dined one night at Chops, and that was outstanding!  They offered a wide variety of entertainment, and all of it was interesting and enjoyable.  The ship was well decorated for the Christmas holiday, and with the carol singing and Santa handing out gifts on Christmas morning, it made for quite a festive trip.  We also enjoyed the day in Nassau and at Key West.

The only issue we had was when we tried to rent a cabana on Coco Cay.  We completed the rental agreement, but a day before we were to arrive at Coco Cay, we received a note saying that we could not get a cabana, as they were only available to guests who were serviced by the concierge.  After we expressed our displeasure, the excursions manager took several actions to compensate us for the inconvenience and the misunderstanding.  While the experience was disappointing, we felt that the management did try to do what they could to provide some satisfaction.

We would consider trying this type of cruise again in the future.

Holiday Cruise by bobs1959

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The service on this ship makes up for all the other less than outstanding size and entertainment . The ship was decorated beautifully for the season. The dining room service was excellent. and the food very good in our my time dining room at 7:00 or so P.M. Our stateroom was quite adequate. The TV did not have any of our favorite channels such as Fox News, CBS , but the TMC channel was good for old movies. We do not like CNN, or the other news channel, so we forgot the news events, which is what one should do on vacation. The private island of Labadee is a favorite stop, and we enjoyed it, esp. the beach. Overall, very enjoyable cruise.

We had a great time on our cruise.  Lots of things to do.  Meals were outstanding, especially the dinners.  Ship kept much cleaner this time compared to the last time that  we were on it.  Majority of staff were very helpful and attentive.

I just recently came back from a 10 day cruise to celebrate my birthday and I have to say that this was the experience of a lifetime. I felt very special every day that I was there. The food was wonderful, the activities were amazing, the people phenomenal! 10 thumbs up for Royal Caribbean and Cruise.com for guiding me in the right direction.

Very nice cruise by jimfisher12770

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

A very good cruise, with only a few issues.1 Getting in and out of bed. The space between the bureau and the bed when used as a queen is very narrow. There is only a few inches between them ,from the floor to top of the bed. Would like to see more cultural tours.

Was not what we expected by woodbutcher33

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The food was not up to standards. The handicapped room was 50% handicapped.

The internet service was poor and expensive. The parking was to expensive. I will never sail with the grandeur or Royal Caribbean again.

Everything was wonderful except the beds by KenFenske

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I suppose I'm an experienced cruiser as I've been on 10 over the last 20 years.  \

I cannot say enough about the food, absolutely the consistently best I've ever had on a cruise ship.  Everything else was great except the beds...

Let's talk about the beds.  I am a fit and active person but over the years I have developed back problems.  We had two single beds in out ocean view room and when I saw them I immediately expected trouble.  Sagging in the middle, one was firmer that the other but both were back breakers.  I spent 3 days of the cruise hobbling around like I was 80, I'm 55.  The pain of those beds eventually lead me to sleeping on the floor.  My companion has no back problem history but he was also laid up with back pain.

I suggest you stick to the newest RC ships, hopefully their beds are no so warn out.

Eastern Caribbean (Dec.) by Cruiser273

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This is our 19th cruise, 15 of which have been with Royal Caribbean or Celebrity.  The crew on this ship was excellent, even better than other cruises.  The service in the dining room was exceptional.  Each evening we were greeted by name (and our waiter knew our cabin number as well) and seated with the same waitstaff each evening (this was My Time).  We asked only once for something (like ice in our stateroom) and each evening it was brought in.  So nice not to have to ask for anything at all.  The trip was most enjoyable.

Convenient Port to Drive To rather then Fly by lhpewter

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We booked the cruise last minute. We got a nice deal with .we upgraded our cabin and got a credit for shore excursions and also a rebate for after the cruise. Royal Carribbean has cut back on their food. Instead they offer upgrades in the dining room and specialty restaurants. We liked the Grandeur of the Sras because it is easy to get around. I think Internet should not be an extra charge because it is the way of the world and how everyone communicates today.

We got extra time in the ports because divers were working on the ship's bottom. We also ate in the 3 specialty restaurants which we thought was great, and a good value. Some of the shows were so so, but still entertaining.other acts were fantastic. The cruise director was great, and just right for the crowd, a lot of senior adults with scooters, walkers, canes. At times we thought we were getting run over. There were not too many young people. We liked the ports and also the extra days at sea to relax and enjoy the ship"s activities.

Things they are a changin by charlesstollcpa

Ice cream machine was broken more than it was  - operative. No more stewed prunes. No decaffeinated tea. I don't expect to cruise again. Too much of a problem with staff. English is my first language. You asked for whipped cream and you get whipped butter .

An all around great time. by stevenallencook

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our first Cruise. Expecting the same confusion as one encounters with airports and flying, but, Royal Caribbean has it down to a science. Parking, baggage, boarding, activities, food and leaving at the end. I am so impressed with the entire operation.

We found time to catch up on things our daily lives push to the side. We were very happy with the food, and the shows. The pool and hot tub areas were immaculate, and the staff with only one exception were wonderful.

If you book your excursions online, the staff at the excursion desk takes a hands off approach to answering questions. I found that disappointing as I booked them through the Royal Caribbean web sight. Excursion pass tickets were tendered first. Yet our passes from the web sight were ignored because we booked directly with the excursion companies through a link, not with the excursion desk. Once, I figured this out, I was able to frame my questions so the excursion desk staff was more cooperative. Sometimes with a little prompting, but, it all worked fine.

Our stateroom was great in almost every respect. My only critique negative was the mini refrigerator was not installed in the cabinet, probably because a hole needed to be drilled for the cord to reach the plug. The space the refrigerator occupied would have been a good spot for my suit case.

All in all a great cruise.

Our Cruise by cruiser312

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

One of the highlights was our room with a view.  This was our first time with an outside cabin and it was well worth it.  The seas were calm and the weather was beautiful.  We enjoyed all of our 4 ports and the excellent service provided by all of the RCI staff.  Thanks you Cruise One for making this all possible at a fantastic price!!
