Cruise to Nowhere by devfam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

Favorite part was the food. Worst part was that we were NOT taken to Bermuda but to Bayonne, NJ , of all places. Very disappointing. The cruise line should have cancelled this cruise prior to departing due to hurricanes, rather than take us to some awful place.

Colorful cruise by Ozarklady

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Having never cruised to Maine and Canada, we picked this cruise for the change of pace from our usual Caribbean cruises and the close proximity of the Grandeur to our home in Baltimore. It didn't disappoint us! The leaves in Maine were just about to reach their peak so we were treated with red maples, sugar maples, and the smell of pine trees everywhere in Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain in Bar Harbor. Our other side trips to Kennebunk, St. John, NB, and Halifax, NS were long days on a bus (6-7 hours), but we were glad we took them because everything was a first for us. Be prepared for lobster dinners everywhere and blueberry pie! The Grandeur is the Grandeur, an old ship that tries to keep pace with the times, but struggles in certain areas. The beds and pillows could be improved. In spite of this, we would recommend this cruise for everyone!

New England and Canada cruise by Keshav

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

My favorite part of the cruise was nightly entertainment in the Palladium theater and late night dance and music program in the Centrum. Andre made it more exciting. He has abundant amount of energy and enthusiasm and is able to engage everyone in the activity. He did a better job than Paul , during first two days when Paul was away.

Dinner time at Great Gatsby was a pleasant experience. Everyone attending to us (at our table ) went out of their to make it great.

Food in the Windjammer was as we had expected (like an assembly line).

There was lot of variety of Indian food on two days only but most of the preparations were made South Indian style, with same type of spices and tomato gravy. Other days, there was may be one Indian dish but made in the same South Indian style. We found out that the chef making those preparation was South Indian .We communicated our concerns to Yogesh, one of the newer employees in the Windjammer. Following day, they made couple of different style dishes which were to our liking. India has hundreds of varieties of food preparation depending on which part of India one comes from. In future, Royal Caribbean should  pay little more focus on food preferences of Indian people.

We've eaten variety of dishes (made from different parts of India) on other cruiselines.

Our experience by aparnadg44

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

We enjoyed eating in the dining room.  Food service was very good.  Food choice was good.

Food in the buffet area was also good.  However, as the buffet dining area was huge we had problems sometimes to locate our table after we leave the table to bring our food.  It would have been helpful if there were table numbers like the tables in the dining room.  Because the dining room tables had table numbers, it was easy for us to locate our table, if we had to leave our table for some reason. We did not have any problem in the dining room to locate our table because of the number.

We drink a lot of water and take a number of medications with water.  We requested the food service to bring water to our room and they were very nice and brought several glasses of water according to our request. It would have been helpful if there were a water pitcher in our room with drinking water.

However, we enjoyed the cruise very much.  The cruise employees, waiters, waitresses, every body was extremely good, polite and professional.  We felt at home and relaxed in the cruise.  Our room also was very nice.  Overall, we are very happy that we took this cruise and will recommend others to take this cruise.

5 night Bermuda cruise by becbebopp

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

We really enjoyed sailing on Grandeur.  We enjoy a smaller ship and the more specialized service.  The food was good in the MDR and the Windjammer.  Roomservice food leaves a lot to be desired.  Our ocean view,  2 port hole, stateroom was adequate for 2, but I suggest bringing extra hangers. (Rm 3510)

We're already looking forward to cruising on the Lady G again, and will book with for sure.

Grandeur of the Seas cruisef by bellerdelphine

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Loved the cruise. Entertainment, food and especially the service people made this a trip to be remembered. The restaurant staff was fantastic. They gave us a first class treatment. Robert and Wendell at table 572  were definitely  great servers who treated us with the greatest  respect. We always felt welcome. The staff who entertained us were fantastic. The violinist and piano player, the  bands, the dancers and singers could not have been better. Everyone had tremendous energy. The cruise director was truly a special performer. Embarking and disembarking could not be better. We were very happy with the organization.

The entire cruise from start to finish was great. I really enjoyed the stops in Bar Harbor, St. John's, and Halifax. The service in dining room was excellent and the food was good. I would recommend this cruise to anyone looking for a beautiful place to go. I would like to take this same or a similar cruise to some different places in Canada.

Cutting Back by Im4irish

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

It's a trend. Royal Caribbean-and probably others--are trying to hold the line on price but, as costs rise, they cut back on the amenities and food. I remember 10 years ago when a canvas beach bag awaited you in your stateroom when you first checked in.  We still use those bags.

Now they are cutting back on the quality of the food. If you didn't like the options on the menu you could order a NY strip steak or salmon instead. That was fine and the steak was good if not the best. Now, that alternative steak was the thickness of an index card!

Grandeur of the Seas  is scheduled for a refurbishment next year. Unfortunately, it needs that makeover this year! We needed to call maintenance 3x to try and get the A/C to work properly. We needed to call maintenance 4x to reset the in-room safe and on the last night the toilet overflowed and it took 1 hour for maintenance to  respond! It was after midnight before they had it fixed.

Royal Cruise by wbahoy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

the favorite part were the ports of call.We especially liked Bar Harbor and Halifax. The service from our waiter Endy and assistant waiter Virgillio was absolutely superb.Cabin Steward Rolly was excellent. Sometimes it was hard to get a drink in the lounges especially the Centrum. The Centrum,I feel more people would be able to see the show/entertainment if was held in the South Pacific Lounge because if you were not 30-45 minutes early you could not get a seat and standing 3 deep on 4th or 5th level you could not see.The tendering process in Bar Harbor was atrocious. I understand in the morning the fog had to be blamed but in the afternoon getting back to the ship took up to 2 hours of waiting in line with no communication from anyone at Royal Caribbean. No formal or proper apology was given. Food was so-so but our dinner companions were delightful. Would do the cruise again because of ports. Nine days was way to go So relaxing.

The beds are horrible!!! The dining staff is amazing by karenbeltethon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

the only reason the rating goes from horrible to good is because the dining staff is absolutely outstanding! However the beds were so uncomfortable my back ached the entire trip!!! It was horrible. I asked if it could be rectified and was told it is what it is! Also it was my anniversary and my husband and I wanted a massage. So we went to the spa and started asking. The employee was so rude! She hardly answered our questions, was annoyed, just seemed like she didn't want to work there. No effort. Especially when we were willing to spend $300 on 2 massages. Needless to say after 5 minutes of trying to pry information from her as far as the difference between massages etc we just got fed up and left. Without getting anything done. I'm very disappointed

Great Crew, Nice ship by drsrhodes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

The stars of this cruise are the crew and the ship's easy to navigate layout. Crew dance parties are the best nights on the ship.  The drawback to this ship is the pool (WAY too small).  Also, as an older ship, there are maintenance issues.  Our stateroom, a large interior room, was well placed in the ship, but the air conditioning was broken and we couldn't unpack, the room was so hot.  It was repaired, and we were able to get a fan in there.  Later, the ship's venting systems allowed for sewage smells on our side of the ship.  Not pleasant.  Also, while the dining room labels meals vegetarian, gluten-free, etc., the Windjammer (main cafeteria) did not label at all.  I am gluten-free, and I realized I was eating gluten unknowingly, though I tried to avoid it.  Still, we had a wonderful time overall, that's how much we like the Grandeur!  Frankly, the Canadian itinerary is better; more ports, fewer kids.

Cruising Bermuda by Cruiser80866787

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

The Grandeur of the Seas offers excellent service.  The rooms are immaculately kept and the dinner service is top-notch.  I would like a little more variety in the menus both in the Great Gatsby and the Windjammer.  The Broadway type shows in the theatre should be shown after the late dinner seating as well as before.    And we never saw the aerial show in the Centrium.  That needs better description in the Compass.  The Captain was very personable and was everywhere interacting with the passengers.  Very enjoyable cruise.

Great cruise but not enough time in port by kay7328

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

Cruise was excellent and the staff onboard was fantastic. Wish we could have stayed in port longer. By the time you are allowed off the boat and the time you have to return the next day, you only have 24 hours in Bermuda. We did a snorkeling shore excursion through the Restless Native and loved it. The tour staff was great and we got to spend 2 hours snorkeling. Would highly recommend doing this excursion versus the one offered by the cruise line.
