Deck 7 was a nice mid level! We took the stairs a lot to get in some exercise during the week and found it handy being midway up the ship! Also there were cabins above and below us, so no extra noisy anything to keep us up.

Choose carefully when booking. Royal Caribbean feels it's okay to charge you for three ports, potentially skip one for weather, and think that a sea day is just as good as a day in Cayman. I also feel more consumer scrutiny needs to be put on RCI for safety on cruise ship booked excursions. Nobody was hurt when the dive boat for an excursion sank. But, several people were killed and more injured when one of the buses for an excursion crashed. I previously complained to RCI about an excursion bus in Jamaica that I felt was in an unsafe condition. They need to do more to ensure consumer confidence in their excursions because I will not likely book another RCI cruise until these issues are addressed.

Take note that the food (Main Dining Rooms and The Windjammer) is at the back, aft, of the ship. There is a block on the lower level because of the ice rink. Learn ASAP how to get to the different areas on decks 3 & 4 and you'll save many steps and unnecessary trips through the casino.

Re the Ultimate Beverage Package. I enjoy a drink once in a while and although I was getting plenty of guidance from a friend who has a greater capacity than I, there was no way I was getting my money's worth. My wife does NOT drink alcohol and has not had a drop for 25 years. We had purchased a soft drink package for her on line before sailing but I held off on the Ultimate Beverage package until I got on the ship, having heard that I would get my best deal then with my Diamond Plus discount. But was first told that with two people in the room, both must have the Ultimate package. I steadfastly refused to do it and stuck to my guns. Eventually RCCL will relent if the second person in the room is a non-drinker for religious reasons or for health reasons. Call it what you like, I said, but my wife is not a drinker, we are not liars or crooks (and we are Diamond Plus with over 500 points) and I am not paying hundreds of dollars for a second package just because there are others who are lying and abusing an otherwise workable program. This is a stupid and insulting program and RCCL needs to rethink it. Bottom line - refuse to buy a second package if your spouse or companion is a legitimate non-drinker. Get them a soft drink package or better yet, the Refreshment package which gets everything but alcohol, and do not allow yourself to be bullied.

1. Try the pastries in the Promenade Cafe. 2. If you're going from a dining room to the Schooner Bar, and don't want to walk through the casino, go outside and walk underneath the life boats.

Take it all in. There is a lot to do, take your time and enjoy it. The ship has A LOT going on each day, at night we would check the next day and see if something was going on that we wanted to be apart of. The walls are metal, we brought magnetic hooks to hang some clothes on. Also we bought a shoe organizer and hung it on the bathroom door, this was a HUGE space saver for us, it held all of our misc items.

Ask for top shelf drinks on the drink package. We decorated our door and put a note pad out. Great to see new messages for the birthday celebration. Having a room by the elevator limited hall walking time. We did my time dining and then set it to 8:00 every night. Worked well for having time to change after the ports and shows.

Bring an over the door shoe storage bag. It holds shoes, personal items, phones, ect and keeps your cabin neater and more organized.

Desserts can be improved. The food was great but the desserts need a lot of improvement and variety. The amount of available desserts did not meet the volume of people at the buffet.

Freedom of the Seas offers service superior to many of the previous cruises I have been on. It has a variety of activities offered at convenient, non-competitive times and the specialty restaurants are fantastic, as is the complimentary food offered on board.

At least eat lunch in the Main Dining Room on a few days and order from the menu. Good variety and quality. It also has a good salad bar.
