Review summary

Freedom is a "good ship" but we were not "wowed". Staff was friendly and helpful which counts for a lot. Food was good but variety was not as good as on other cruises. Entertainment and activities were fine; plenty to do with 4 cruise days. There were a number of passengers who just loved the Freedom and had cruised on it several times. We would sail on it again especially for the right itinerary.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Great, fast and efficient

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food in My Time dining was good but the variety offered too many repeat selections. The lunch menu items were better than the evening menu as to quality and variety. Windjammer quality was very good and the variety was better than the main dining room.

Sorrentos Pizza

5 out of 5

Pizza was very good. It was a very popular spot.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The "Art Group" actually gave some very informative lectures on Art; I now know a lot more about Dali ! The children's pool was closely monitored by lifeguards that actually watched what was happening. We enjoyed Karaoke but there was a poor group of singers on the cruise.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Topi, Cruise Director, is a very good singer and dancer. His staff worked hard to entertain us on 4 cruise only days. Stage shows were good, the singers were excellent. We went to the Ice Show twice! There was a good variety of "headliners".

Studio B

5 out of 5

The Ice Show was very good. The skaters gave strong performances and the choreography was good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff was very friendly; it did not seemed "forced". They seemed to understand the importance of service what ever their job/ position

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship is "older" but staff worked hard to keep it clean and "germ free".

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Compact but did not stay in it for long except at night. It works for us. Room was toward the bow and the rough seas were felt primarily at night. We were "rocked to sleep".

Ship tip

At least eat lunch in the Main Dining Room on a few days and order from the menu. Good variety and quality. It also has a good salad bar.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5
Stayed overnight only.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

5 out of 5
Having been there in May 2017, we just stayed around the port and city.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
Considering the hurricane damage, they are trying hard to recover. We did island tour which now focuses on the "devastation". French side is in the worst shape. We did get out at Marigot for about 45 minutes. Tour included boat excursion on Simpson Bay by the airport. Lots of damaged/ sunken ships still in the water or washed up on shore. Not enough construction workers; great job opportunity! Dutch side in better shape; Philipsburg was fun. The islanders were very happy to see us; they need tourists to help with their recovery.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
First visit but a short visit. Took an "Old/ New City Tour". Damage mostly along the city's beaches/ hotels. Not many tours into the countryside.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island) Did not visit port

High seas and wind kept us out of the port.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Smooth; did not have to wait in line for long. Customs was pretty fast. Note: airport was slammed with 6 ships "dumping" passengers that morning. Had to wait to Check-in; airlines would not let you check-in earlier than 3 hours before plane was too depart. Standing room only before security.
