Watch out for third party site offers from Cruises Only!!! by Carrolls

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise was great.  The one thorn in our side was an email that we received from Cruises Only.  Their email offered us 25% off any excursion while on our cruise if we prepaid thru them (we prepaid the entire cruise thru Cruises Only).  We chose a Kyack and Snorkel package for St Martin, the same as described in the Royal Caribbean brochure and sure enough it was 25% less.  We didn't read the fine print before leaving but we assummed all was well since it was on the Royal Caribbean cruise.  When we didn't receive tickets in our room we went to customer service on the ship and after reading it "carefully" Andre told us it was cancelled days ago.  To make a long story short, it wasn't even a Royal Caribbean excursion and it wasn't cancelled.  The link from CRUISES ONLY was a third party site that booked us something "similar", but we had to get our own transportation to the site that was 30 minutes away!!!  We were told that even tho the ship excursion was cancelled due to danger from rough seas and murkiness, our guide waited for us and even "tried to contact us" tho not sure how since there wasn't a message on the boat or our cell phones.  We were out the entire price (but got a 25% discount  :  ( at least)!  We're still waiting on Royal Caribbean to let us know what they will do.................

Beautiful Ship by lovetocruise1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our 2nd time on the ship, she is still just as beautiful as the first time. The ports are great. I only have 1 problem with this ship and that is the elevator's. They stay packed and you must wait or walk. The smoking policy that RCCL has is tough. I only got a balcony room so that I could smoke without fighting the crowd's, but you can no longer smoke on your balcony. We had a room on the 7th floor, so I had to either go up or down to smoke. Other than that we had a great time.

Nice tima on Royal as usual. by MoF

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We enjoyed our trip aboard the Freedom. I was happy that we all had an equally nice time. The ship is beautiful and the stops were fabulous. We live 10 minutes from the port and will sail again. I am a bit cautious these days about cruising in general due to the illnesses on board. I started my third to last day with laryingitis and continued the entire week home with this and strep. No one else in the party was ill, which is great, but I really feel the ships MUST find a way keep this under control. That said, the ship, crew, food, stops, activities on this ship were really wonderful. Good times were had. Ice skating was enjoyed by my 9 yr old and myself. The Wave machine was enjoyed by my 9 yr old. The casino was enjoyed by ME!!

Christmas cruise by BarryKathi

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a wonderful family Christmas cruise on the Freedom Sea's!  This was our first cruise with royal, and though we enjoyed everything, the dinning room was the only thing that was a bit much for our personal liking.   It was definitely fancy! Too fancy for my kids, they preferred going to the Windjammer instead.... Which we enjoyed, food there was wonderful, service was great!   Entertainment on this ship was top notch! Our stateroom attendant was wonderful!   I am already looking to book the next cruise!  Thanks Royal for a wonderful vacation!

Love this Class of Ships by jeannegirl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Have been on The Navigator, Mariner, Allure, and now The Freedom.  I love the Promenade.  It is always exciting.  You never feel like you are on a ship.  All the shops, cafe`s, something happening all the time.  The 70`s party was fantastic in the Promenade.  Also the parade!

The entertainment was excellent,  like a Broadway show,  The food was very good,  if I did not like something,  the waiter would bring something different.  The staff was very friendly and very polite.  I was disappointed that they did not separate a smoking side of the Casino.  Too much smoke therefore I did not spend any time there.  The only other negative was boarding and getting off the ship.  The facility for getting on was too small for that many people.  I never had that problem with smaller ships leaving Pt Canaveral.  The line was a very long snake.  Getting off, there were mixed signals which created a long line of people trying to get off the ship.  The baggage situation on the conveyor belt was also not good.  Waited too long and too crowded.

Other than that, I always love Royal Caribbean and especially this class of ships.Love

Ready to go again! by Committed2RC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Our cruise on Freedom of the Seas exceeded our expectations in every way. We travelled with our three older daughters and our younger daughter, so we had two cabins. Since we booked two cabins, we chose the interior cabin. I was hesitant based on past experiences with inside cabins. I was pleasantly surprised at the space of the cabin. The beds were very comfortable. The two twins made an oversized king with a bunk over. There was also a small couch. There were curtains to separate the beds from the tv/sitting area. The shows were high quality and definitely family friendly. We had found some shows billed as family friendly on other cruise lines to be offensive either in content or costumes, but that was not the case on Freedom of the Seas. The Dreamworks experience was enjoyed by all of us. The ship provides excellent pools and sunning possibilites as well as a mainstreet feel on the Promenade. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helful. We enjoyed our cruise so much that we booked a western carribean cruise on the same ship for next year!

the food was okay the dining room service was excellent. The cabin service was also excellent. The casino left a lot to be desired. Very smoky very few non smoking machines couldn't get away from the smoke. The service in the casino wasn't very friendly. The production shows were all very high caliber.

Our Freedom of the Seas RCL cruise. by Vivian37Jack31

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We cruised on this same ship two years ago, and had a wounderful trip. We can see several changes that have been made

since that time. 1. Your gratuitys are placed on the tabs before you cruise. 2. The food in the dining rooms are not as good,

3. Service at breakfast in dining room is at a very poor level.  4. Several of the ships employees are not very nice or helpful.

5. The photo section of the ship are not helpful at all.

6. We miss the coupon books for CAS members which were easier to use and not questioned each time we took our sheets

of perks in to use instead.   We were not trusted not to use them over again.!

We understand that the emergencies aboard the ship, four in all, could not be avoided, but we had to miss one port, St Thomas

and could not get off at the alternative port of San Juan, P.R. because of the heavy, flooding rains that day.

We did not get our pictures taken on formal night as we always have in the past, because the captain was not there for the

time frame indicated, and our waiter was so slow serving us that we it took  almost two hours to get our orders that night.

We did have some bright spots, our cabin stewart was very good and helpful, the medical staff was also very good and needs

to be mentioned, my wife became ill on the first day at sea and was given excelent carein the emergency room. The ship was

very clean. WE achieved our Diamond status at the end of this cruise.with this cruise, I hope that RCL doesen't change the

rules on us again like they did when we completed the cruise on Oasis of the Seas.

Freedomn of the Seas-Pt. Canaveral, St. Thomas, St. Maarten... by arsailman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

If we hadn't been diverted to Nassau, thereby missing St. Thomas, the cruise would have been much better. But, the health of a passenger is more important than a schedule.

The length of the Freedom of the Seas is too much. All the walking back and forth is a lot of ecercise. Not that I couldn't use the exercise, but it does get stale after a while.

Other than that, the cruise was excellent. Mat Yee held court four nights in the Schooner Bar, and was a great entertainer who kept the crowd engaged and laughing all night. The food, as usual, was very good. All the amenities are great.  The Crown & Anchor Society (for past passengers) is nice, but they have few bargains on future cruise prices. Better buys with almost any travel agency than the line itself...

25th Anniversary Cruise by Boomer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a great time on the cruise, it started off a bit slow until we got into the swing of things. Being our first cruise, we weren't sure how things worked. We missed out on meeting the captain for cocktails, that was disappointing. We didn't realize that deck 5 was the main deck until about the 3rd day. But once we met some people they helped us out a bit. We were disappointed that we only got to stay at Coco Cay for about 2 hrs because we had to leave cause of weather. So we didn't get to do anything there but shop and lay in a hammock before we were told to leave. Then the medi evacs happened so we couldn't go to St. Thomas that was a downer. We really wanted to go there. San Juan we almost got mugged, we had two guys following us we had to ditch them. It was pouring rain and we got soaked and just ran back to the ship. Then another med evac. Then St. Maarten was great a little over cast, but we were able to get out and shop. Then another med evac 4 in all. So I was not impressed with the choice of going to San Juan, I think it was too high crime to bring tourists to if the chances you could be mugged.

43rd anniversary by demayor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Pretty much a great cruise. On board entertainment was the greatest. Awesome cruise director and assistant.

Cruise was for our 43rd anniversary. I made a special point for it to be recognized in the dining room and on the ship.It never happened except for what I did and paid extra for in our cabin.

The island tour on St. thomas was a bust.(St Thomas Taxi #0957) The bus was old, the driver drove like a maniac. He got so close to the bushes they scraped my arm sitting inside the bus. Very little narration if any.

The carpet that was being installed around the pool during the cruise, at the childrens end was cheap to be blunt. The installation did not look professiona because of it.

Would I cruise on Royal Caribbean? Absolutely.

Great system for disembarkment at cruise end.

Bravo to Royal Caribbean! by waytosanjose

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise is worth every penny.     Check in was fairly easy,  waited in line for about 30 minutes but did expect that.  Young lady who checked us in was very informative and cheerful.  Our room was very nice, clean, and we enjoyed the balcony very much and recommend choosing a room with one.  Our room stewart Agus was attentive, non intrusive, helpful, always smiling and cleaned the room at least twice a day.  There is lots of activities to keep you busy all day or places to retreat on deck to relax and read or nap.  Our head waiter Alex was charming and right on top of everything.    The food was delicious and plentiful.  I would recommend having lunch in the restaurant when possible instead of the buffet, less options but more enjoyable and it was excellent.   You may as well go to the buffet for breakfast, its crowded but lots of choices and everything is clean and presented nicely.  I would recommend not playing the slot machines,   we did and pretty much got zero return.   If you like to gamble stick to the tables.

Wonderful cruise by cruisetiludrop

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a wonderful time on Freedom of the Seas. The service was great and the ship was very clean and beautiful. Loved the Chops Grille restaurant. We had 3 of our dinners at Chops and 1 at Portofinos. I highly recommend both.  My husband and I cruised on the Allure last year and we still rave to everyone about how wonderful that ship is and how much we loved it.  Freedom of the Seas is a step down from the Allure but is still a really nice ship.
