My First Cruise by WmMcDonald

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was my first cruise, so I was not sure exactly what to expect. Especially since we were dealing with Hurricane Matthew during my cruise.  We were rerouted around the storm with San Juan being added to our ports of call instead of Cococay.  Frankly, I was very happy with this change.

Overall I was very pleased with the experience. As a first time participant, I wish there was more time at each port to allow for more than one excursion.  This probably would mean adding an additional day, but I personally would be willing to pay more to have more time on the island. The staff members on board were always very friendly and helpful.  The ship was clean, well maintained and seemed to be operating well.

My excursion to St John (from St Thomas) was very disappointing.  The Island itself is amazingly beautiful.  However the experience of getting there and actually touring the island was very disappointing.  We were almost an hour late leaving St Thomas, which took an hour off the time available on St John.  The two buses were loaded and there were still 7 of us standing in the parking lot.  They tour staff moved people around, couples could not sit together, to accommodate the size of the group.  The tour staff packed us into the "buses" and made the two hour ride uncomfortable and unpleasant.  The driver of the bus I was packed on was extremely rude.  I asked him his name while we were waiting to get started.  His reply was "You don't need to know my name, get on my bus!"  His tone was abrasive and he was certainly not "joking around".  I will not take this tour again!

Again, overall the cruise was a great experience.  William M.

Caribbean in a Hurricane by cookielady4444

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

First off I want to say I love RC and sail with them often. We booked a Caribbean cruise on Freedom (I been on this ship at least 4 times…………one of most favorite ships) Unfortunately we sail with a huge hurricane chasing us. My thanks to a wonderful captain who avoided the Hurricane and sail us through calm waters and warm weather. He did a great job. On the down side this cruise the food was the worst we have ever had on a cruise ship in the last 30 years. Time and time again we had to send food back from the dining room and the windjammer was ever worst……………. food I wouldn’t feed my dog. Food in the small cafés were most all the time empty. Go to get a bite to eat and no food. I am not sure why? As I said sail on this ship before and the food was wonderful…….new chef? Other than the food the cruise was delightful and can’t wait to cruise again with RC hopefully with a new chef.

Best Vacation EVER! by Cruiser82440032

Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Not only was the cruise fantastic, but my crafting/art journaling classes I signed up to take with Michelle McCosh were beyond awesome. Michelle put together some great classes & taught us some awesome techniques. We got to take some goodies home like paints, a new art journal, among other things. I truly enjoyed each & every class. I'm hooked & will definitely be back for another cruise with Michelle McCosh. She's very personable, talented, encouraging & truly awesome personality! Thank you For such an awesome experience!

Would not recommend this cruise. by jacki7steve3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was nice and kid friendly. Dining room staff and house keeping staff Great. Custom service desk always a line very long and did not fix issues.  We had a baconly room on 6th floor mid back ship and when ship was moving the bed vibrate so bad that your pillow could not be on the head board or would make you sick , and you had to hold on when sitting on toilet.

your time in ports really are not long enough to do very much.

Awesome by harafal1231

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

This was my second time cruising but my boyfriends very first. We had an excellent time, the food was great and the customer service was wonderful. I cruised carnival the first time but I must say I will continue to cruise with Royal Caribbean here on out. If I had to complain it would only be to have more time on the islands as some ports were 8-4 and others were 10-7 depending on the time zones. Cozumel and Cayman Islands were my favorite. I plan to go back.

Great Birthday Cruise by osmyear

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was a great trip!  Sabor Mexican restaurant was wonderful!  The room was great!  I would recommend a balcony room every time.  The activities on the ship were fun they had things for all ages and nothing ever seemed to be over crowded. Didn't like that they offered a cheaper photo package on board than the pre-purchase.  Overall the cruise was wonderful and look forward to taking another 7 night cruise with Royal. Love

Beautiful ship, food and ports not so much. by tderoche343

Where we docked in St Thomas was terrible. A very poor area. St Marrten was better, but not great. Ship food was not as good as what we experienced on Carnival.

Disappointment continues by printer54

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Having spent over 200 nights on Royal Caribbean cruises I have watched a once fun and exciting vacation turn into a ho-hum vacation. You just spent $2300 to go on a 7-night Caribbean vacation. First stop: Cocoa Cay, their private island. $20.00 for a beach umbrella. Next stop, St.Thomas. They stop at a port away from the large downtown shopping area. $18.00 cab fare if you want to go downtown. St. Marteen, decent beach, worth the $7.00 ferry ride. Windjammer, loud hip-hop music at breakfast. Food selection and quality, average. Dinner: mediocre selections, smaller proportions. Solarium: if you don't reserve a seat by 7:30 you're not going to get one. Evening entertainment: good if you're between 20-35. Personally considering another cruise line.

Great Time! by lynndormand

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Had a great time, good food and drinks, entertainment, support and services. The dining times are a little long - at least 1.5 hours, so it made it difficult to get to entertainment.  Cococay's lunch wasn't managed very well, long lines and could have been managed better.  Longer times in port would have been preferred but know it's dependent on cruise length and time to get to/from ports.

A great decision for our 40th Anniversary and 1st time cruise! by 1papapep

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship personnel did a fantastic job with everything! Thank you again! Overall a great ship and crew. Only problem we had was with the other cruisers during meal time at the buffet, they were only intent on themselves, no common sense for others.

Best Birthday ever!!! by lorrykn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise was amazing. The wait staff and room stewards were so friendly and ready to do whatever needed to be done. The only complaint I would have is the photos are so expensive and the photographers don't take time to help you make a good pose. Did not like St. Thomas at all. The people were not friendly and the bugs were horrible. The ship was beautiful, the shows were outstanding, the food phenomenal. Yes we will be booking another cruise on Royal Caribbean.LoveLove

Awesome Cruise by TimJoyceHigh

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Do not be afraid to sail during hurricane season.  The water was the calmest we ever sailed on and the weather was warm and skies sunny.  Royal Caribbean's island, Coco Cay was beautiful.  Lots of beach area and chairs to relax.

Disappointments by abennett71

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Shore Excursion for the Dolphins in Cozumel and the activities on the ship were exceptional. Windjammer huge disappointment from previous cruises. The food in the Windjammer was not of the quality in the pass.  Most of the time it was cold and the variety on a daily bases was not there. Activity director was the most energetic Director I have seen on any ship, he is relentless.  That man goes from sun up to sun down and always has a smile and never shows exhaustion. The personnel working under him had the same infectious personalities and energy, he really sets an outstanding example on how to keep people entertained and enjoying themselves.   Dining staff in the Any Time dining were outstanding.  The spa personnel were very helpful and the technicians were very professional and very well trained in their area of expertise.

I was disappointed that the ship really showed its age.  RC has a reputation of excellence and I think they have somehow neglected the appearance of the ship.  It did not have the WOW factor that I am familiar with for RC.Surprised I will travel on RC again on a different vessel and hopefully get back to the standards that I am use to from RC.  Even though I was disappointed I still had a good time and will travel on RC again. I visited the casino twice very crowded, loud and smoky.  I also played Bingo which I thought was a little on the costly side for only 3 games but the staff make it pleasant and fun to be there.
