Emerald Princess Caribbean Getaway by james157

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean

First Princess cruise.  The staff was excellent...  We were greeted with a smile and a good morning by all staff members.  We were pleased with the activities on board the ship as well.   Lots of stuff to do.  The destinations were ones we had visited before, so not much to say there.   Three areas the ship needs improvement on... First... The food was only so so...  We ate in the dinning room 3/4 nights.   Some of the dishes were just too bland.   Our one night in the Steak house was beyond excellent.   The Second is the entertainment.   There was a lot to do, but the shows were lacking.   Some other cruise lines we have been on, we really enjoyed the nightly shows and looked forward to them.  With the exception of one comedian, the other shows were totally missable.   And lastly, we booked balcony room.  And while the Balcony itself was large the room was BY FAR the smallest we have been in.   All other cruise lines we have been on had at least a couch to sit on.  This had a desk, and small chair.  My wife and I had to take turns using the bed to pack/unpack and lay out clothes.  Get rid of the desk, and put a small couch in it.  My brother got a mini suite upgrade, and his room was the size of the other rooms we had on other ships.

We would cruise Princess again...It was nice that the average age was 40ish...  Some kids, but not a lot.   And not too many old pax, as I was concerned it was an older cruise crowd...

Enjoyed our Trip

EMERALD PRINCESS 4 NIGHT CRUISE by mcgovernkk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean

Ship was good; seas were a little rough at times but weather faired out better than we thought.  Breakfast and lunch in Lido were quite good. Dinner in dining rooms was fair.  Service was quote good in staterooms and ship cleanliness. Entertainment was good at times and so-so at other times. Nassau was lovely and we took trip to Paradise Island - a great resort!

Another great cruise on Princess by FrankNicodem

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I cruise often -- and have used a number of popular cruise lines.  But our favorite is always Princess.  It's a cut above (several cuts, in fact) the others.  The service is terrific, the food is exquisite, the shows are wonderful, the shore excursions provide more than anyone can handle.  In fact, this trip we purposely chose a route that consisted of stops that we had already visited many times, but this trip our goal was to do "something different" in each port.  And we did.  We took a submarine ride, zip-lined through a tropical forest, and visited one of the few Mayan sites that we've been yearning to see for years -- Chichen Itza!

Above all, the cruise director -- Lee Childers -- was outstanding.  This was our second cruise with Lee, and he is an awesome person.  Thank you, Princess.  We'll be back!  Happy

The cruise Is good and the food was superb and the choices of activities aplenty but the entertainment was not as great as my last cruise; one comedian Derrick was so funny I wish he would have performed more

Okay cruise by dawnL33

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

As a seasoned cruiser, I found this experience on Emerald Princess not up to my standards. It is only my second time cruising with Princess Line and the first time for my guest. Probably won't cruise Princess again.

A great 4 day get away by johnboston

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship was beautiful as well as our balcony room. Four days is the perfect long weekend get away with only having to take one day off from work. The Horizon buffet court was considerably smaller than that on the Regal Princess but it served it's purpose when you were not up to going to one of the other dining rooms on the ship. The port at Grand Turks and Caicos had a few shops as most ports do and it was a minute walking distance to Margaritaville which in my opinion was really the only place to visit on the small island unless of course you were interested in a snorkeling or diving excursion. I'm sure those were out of this world as the water at this port was only second to Grand Caymans. The ship is headed to 2 weeks at dry dock the end of this month so it will come back pristine for future cruises.

Was Customer Service & Crew also on Vacation by littlelulu17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ventilation in our cabin was very warm . Although maintenance came the problem was never fixed. The cabin was not comfortable to stay in and the nights even worse. Front desk never resolved the situation with compensation while on board. Instead I was told to contact Customer Relations when I get home. Not what I expected from Princess Cruises. The service on board left alot to be desired as well as the quality of the food. The ship needs a major overhall. It looks old and tired.

Senior couple crossing by willow116

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Transatlantic

We decided to fly into Barcelona for a 3 day pre cruise stay. It was wonderful. The weather cooperated and we explored via the hop on, hop of bus as much walking is difficult.  We took one pre cruise tour and found it difficult to locate the meeting place by foot and took a cab. This was a tour through Delta and it was just ok. It did rain during our Tour and that made part of it uncomfortable ( not the tours problem ).

We boarded the ship without any wait time and our stateroom was ready for us. We had requested one robe, and there was none. Upon requesting one from our room steward we were told none were available as this ship was getting ready to be refurbished and all available robes were already given to passengers who started the cruise a week prior to us. After 3 days of insisting we get one. They finally gave in and provided me with a brand new robe. Our toilet seat had several deep gauges I. It and appeared to be unsanitary. We requested a change of seat and agai. Told they were sorry but the refurbishing was scheduled after our cruise. After much I insistance that this was unacceptable to us, it was replaced. The entire ship has aged. We were on it a few years ago and it truly needs updating. The ports of call were wonderful. We did however take a tour from Delta in Cadiz and were extremely disappointed. Many of us were lost trying to find the meeting location again. A representative needs to meet the group as they leave the ship.  Also this tour had 2 hours of walking and most participants were senior citizens.  We had to leave the tour because we could not walk for that period of time. Our group leader also seemed less knowledgable than other tours we have taken. We were also told water would be provided and it was not. We would gladly have brought our own had we known. With a 7 day crossing we felt Orincess should have offered more seminars in addition to their normal cruise activities.

Not enough time :) by liz30

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

We had a lovely cruise. Everyone on board was so friendly. I thought the food was MOSTLY good. My husband and I both work in high end restaurants, so we are naturally a little snobby, and we know that. We accept that it's very large numbers and all that. BUT I would recommend not listing things on a menu just to make it sound fancy if you don't put it in the dish. Saying that a salad is made of endive and goat cheese, and then serving a romaine salad is not the same. My husband ordered something with veal sweetbreads, and it was simply dark meat chicken. Most people wouldn't notice these things, but we did. Other than that, I thought it was quite good.

The beds were comfy, our room was cleaned perfectly, the drinks were MOSTLY good, I thought the cocktails could be improved upon, but again, as that is my business, I am a bit snobby in that respect. It would be interesting to see how a ship with "craft cocktails" would do. Call me if you ever need help with that ;)

The only other thing that was tough was the 7 am wakeup for ports of call only to have a few hours once you got there. I would be interested in a cruise that stopped for maybe a day and a half and you could either book a room in say Rome, or come back to the boat. We left pretty early every day, and only ended up with I think 3 hours in Rome after something like 2.5 hours on trains and busses each way.

Overall, we loved it, and will be back again. Great Staff, great experience.

Emerald Princess on Mediterranean Cruise by joekrajew

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This was a very enjoyable cruise especially for first time cruisers of the Mediterranean. Though itinerary was changed dropping Tunis, Tunisia due to political strife, the alternative Salerno, Italy as port of call was an excellent choice. It should be noted that this cruise was actually two 7-day itineraries rather than one 14-day one. Therefore, we had a couple repeated ports of call which was okay with us because it gave us the opportunity to do different excursions the second time around. So we got to see more of each region. Ports of call were very interesting as departure points for excursions. However, they may not have been convenient for travelers who wanted to stay onboard or visit immediate area. They had to use taxis or shuttles to get to many of the closest towns for walking around. But we did not hear those people complaining.
