Save your money, cruise Holland America by TomH10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

Poor planning for a cold trip when it was supposed to be warm. Low tech operation. Slow to enter the ship and slow to exit. Really bad tendering operation in the ports.

I have decided that our family vacations will be by cruise. No more land vacations. This was absolutely a fun and relaxing trip.

An OK cruise by RogelioF

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

We've sailed with Princess four times before, and this fifth cruise was not nearly as good. We got the impression Princess was trying to cut on expenses. It was virtually impossible to get a table using the "anytime dining" option. The buffet selection was not as good compared with our previous cruises either.

A nice cruise by RogelioF

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

The cruise was OK. The buffet didn't offer as many selections compared with previous cruises with Princess and it was very difficult to find a table at the dining rooms before 8:00 PM. We got the impression Princess was trying to cut costs. The waiters in one of the dining rooms (Savoy) were not very friendly.

Good cruise, good port, mediocre service by DougF4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

Went on a cruise right before Xmas. The stateroom was very nice, the ports were nice. But we didn't like the service. The Anytime Dining is for the birds. We could never get the time we wanted and the service seemed definitely worse that what we had previously experience on Princess. They seem to want to charge extra for everything. For example, on previous cruises we could get a cappacino after dinner at no charge. In fact, the waiters were so good they started bringing these to us without our asking after a few days. On this cruise we had a different waiter every night and the only drinks they do not charge for were Ice Tea, Water, Hot Tea and Coffee.

Fantasy Week by JoanneS8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

The ship is lovely and laid out in such a manner that we never felt crowded on a vessel that held 4,000 people (including staff and clients). The buffet room furniture was getting a bit worn in places but overall the experience of being on board was terrific. The art is wonderful and the decor is pleasing. The central staircase is elegant. The cruise was a true escape!

The Cruise From Hell!!! by MichaelB1634926

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

My wife got food poisoning the first day out on our 25th Anniversary cruise. The room service food was low end Holiday Inn at best and the buffet line wasn't any better. Our cabin attendant called my wife by the wrong name for the entire 7 days and never did figure it out. We had dinner in the Steakhouse on our 25th and I noticed an anniversary cake sitting on a table close to ours. I asked the waiter if he knew it was our anniversary and he exclaimed of course, we know everything about you we are like the FBI and CIA. Five minutes later 3 waiters showed up at our table with a cake that read HAPPY BIRTHDAY complete with a lit candle singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me. I put my hands up and said it is our 25th anniversary, not my freaking birthday. I would not tell anyone I know to go on a princess cruise, in fact I would tell them not to.

A fantastic cruise by ZamelaM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

This was our first cruise and we had no idea what to expect. We were told by friends and family that it would be the time of our lives and they were only half right. We are so thankful that our first cruise was with Princess and the Diamong Princess was awesome. The ship was very comfortable. It was easy to move around, and to find comfortable places to lounge, sit and relax in a variety of environments. The interior decor was very elegant, classy and comfortable all at the same time. We felt relaxed, welcomed and wanted wherever we were on the ship. The shopping aboard the ship had a variety of things to choose from and the service was excellent. You never wanted for food or lack of excellent dining choices. From eating at pool side, in your room, elegant dining rooms, or buffet style service and quality were awesome.

The Diamond Princess, the name said it all. It's a very nice, clean & beautiful ship. We had a blast and enjoyed every bit of it. We have already recommended Princess to several of our friends and will be booking our next cruise very soon.

Good cruise with a few problems by ReneeR1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

My entire family went on this cruise with me and really if it was not for them I would not have enjoyed the cruise that much. The ship itself was beautiful with plenty of activities, including several pools to choose from. Most of the staff that myself and my family interacted with were excellent. I am sorry to say though that our head waiter for our traditional style dinner was a bit rude regardless of how nice we tired to be. My major complaints are with one of the rooms we reserved and a bad incident with the food in the traditional dinning room. One of the rooms we reserved for family was advertised as being for 3 people but could accommodate a 4th person with a roll-a-way bed. However, the roll-a-way did not fit in the room, hence one of my family members had to sleep on a mattress on the floor for the entirety of the cruise as the ship was full. The bad incident at dinner involved two family members at my table each finding a fly in their salads. We notified our head waiter and he then notified the maitred, who then went to the kitchen to pass along the information. My complaint is that the maitred never returned to properly apologize to the two people at my table for the flies in their salad, nor was anything offered to make up for this bad experience. Very poorly handled in my mind, as I would expect much more of a fine dinning restaurant, which is what the traditional dinning room is supposed to be!!!

Very interesting Cruise by JoanM6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The ship was very nice, altho I was a little disapointed in the size of the Stateroom. The dinner food was excellant, the breakfast buffet did tend to be a bit greasy. Everything else seemed up to the high standards Princess has.

Diamond Princess is a wonderful ship by LindaL11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The Diamond Princess is large, but never crowded. The beds and cabins were roomy and comfortable. The decor is very subdued and lovely. There were many swimming pools and hot tubs available. There is a Promenade Deck for sitting and/or walking. The ship is very clean and the food was excellent.

It was much more than we expected by NancyD14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We were highly impressed with the entire operation of the cruise. From the moment we set foot on the ship, we knew it would be exceptional experience. Everything was so clean and the staff were caring and patient. Most impressed with the care taken to prevent any 'shipboard' diseases. Only problem we noticed is that all the staff were not familiar with the ship, you could ask for directions from two different staff and get two different answers. Otherwise, they were all great.

A cruise to remember by JanetA4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We sailed on the Diamond Princess on our first cruise and we were not disappointed. The size of the ship was much bigger than what you see before boarding, and the size of our cabin was big. There were many dining options at the beautiful and cozy resturants. The food was first class and in many cases better than restuarants on land. Talk about first class service from the dining room staff, truly exceptional, and of course it was a wonderful atmosphere . The lobster and crab dinners were comparable to any great seafood restuarant in NY city. The buffet did not feel like a regular buffet stand by more like a food court with choices for any palate. The area was open and spacious and we never had to wait in line to get food whatever time of day. The seating options were placed in the very best area and they all had oceanview. Most couples spent the morning of the glacier bay cruising and enjoying the wonderful view of the whales etc. The nightlife was very exicting and the casino had a variety of games, just not enough payback from the slot machines. The shows were great and the parties were exciting. The 14th floor was the best with the buffet, the pool deck, jacuzzi, ice cream and pizza stands all in one place. The view from here was amazing because you can see the panaromic oceanview view from any side. Our stateroom was cozy and had ample space for storage. The twice a day linen change and most friendly cabin stewart made for a memorable cruise. Overall we have to say the ship was impressive, the staff was wonderful, and we really had a wonderful cruise.

Alaskan Cruise by PaulaB95958761

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The ship was nice but not as elaborate as I had hoped. We booked an oceanview room with an obstruction and you contacted Princess Cruises and were told that there was just a rope for the obstruction, however there was a large piece of equipment right in front of our window. We were very disappointed that we were given this incorrect information. Originally we had an oceanview room with a guarantee, however were told this had a very minimal obstruction. We would have not chosen this room if you or Princess was honest with us. In the shower you could hardly move and this was also very disappointing.
