Customer Service with a Smile - Again by GordonZ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

This is the second time my wife and I have taken this cruise. On this trip we were interested in just plain relaxation and did not take any guided tours as we did the on this same trip several years ago.. The staff on this cruise was extrememly attentive and went out of their way to greet and assist us. Stateroom stewart was exceptional as well as our traditional dining waiter and waiters assistant. My wife and I have cruised Hawaii, Caribbeans, Canada and Mexico with numerous cruise lines. One would never have guessed that the best cruise staff service would have come out of the Mexican Rivera Cruise, not on just one occasion, but also on the same venue we took a several years ago as well. Our expectations were exceeded again by this very attentive and friendly staff.

Lots of fun...a good value by DjA10382079

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

My partner and I have done this itinerary before, so we knew what to expect in the ports. Therefore, we feel we can give a very objective review of the ship. It was excellent (however, not the best). The room was a standard size, but we got an upgrade to a LARGE balcony. It was about 9' x 9' with more than enough room for 4 chairs. The cabin attendant was good and always kept us with plenty of ice. The "anytime dining" had worked out better with other Princess ships...this time we had to wait as much as 25 minutes on busy nights (formal night)...to wait so they could "change over" the dining room...but there were plenty of open tables visible. People cruise to have fun. For us "sail aways" set the stage for the fun for the entire cruise. It seems that they have cut back on the number "cruise directors" and there were no sail away music...which was anti-climatic at the beginning and at each port. Fun music could help and is needed. If youre fortunate to be visiting Los Cabos in the months of January through March, its likely that at some point during your stay youll be treated to the sight of whales. We did the whale watching excursion in Cabo. It was awesome. We saw several (6-8) humpback and gray whales. We toured on the 12-14 person a zodiac-type boat. These smaller craft can maneuver quicker to the whale sightingfor a better and closer view. I got lucky and got some spectacular photos. Over all, the trip was excellent and we would highly recommend the Diamond Princess.

An OK Cruise by AT538

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

Not sure this is the same Princess we sailed on in the Caribbean. Staff was not helpful in the least. Didn't seem to care about any of our issues or concerns. Worst excursions I have ever taken on a cruise. Dining and entertainment was great. Not sure I will sail with Princess again. Hello Royal Caribbean!!!

Mexican Riviera Cruise by Dennis6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

getting from the parking lot to the ship was a big hassle. The people didn't know what we today were doing but would never admit it. They either guessed or lied in answer to ourquestions. We asked for directions and information from about a half a dozen people and not one gave us a straight for a validanswer. In addition, some of the people directing traffic gave us bad directions. Fortunately, by that time we had learned to ignore them. On board ship wasn't much better. Again people told us stories to get off the hook. We signed up for the early sitting (6 p.m.) at a table of six. When we got our information we found out that we were not signed up for it and given the excuse that our sign up was just our desire and not their obligation. I don't know who is responsible for this, Princess or you, but I can tell you it caused a great deal of heartburn. When I complained on board they just gave his stories. Each person I talked to sent us to another person, each saying it was somebody else's responsibility. Finally the matre d' supposedly set us up and when we arrived at dinner we were informed that they had never heard of is. We will never take another cruise without everything spelled out in writing, and guaranteed, before the first penny is paid. and we will never deal with you since you saw fit to let this slide through without telling us.

A great trip! by FirstT35

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

The ship is big and betifully desinged. The food are really yummy and cooked in many styles artfully. The menus are different for every dinner in the dining rooms although at any given night, the 4 free dining rooms have the same menu, but they are different every day. The buffet food is better than the best buffet in Las Vegas! The stateroom services are great and they are very friendly as well. The waiters in dining rooms are very friendly too. One night we were late to the dining room since we went to there after the night show. The waiters didn't rush us at all, and still gave us the same nice service as usual. The shows are high quality, too. I especially enjoyed the Piano Man, the magic show and a jazz piano show. I enjoyed the art auctions and spanish class as well. Too many activities and to little time I wish I could have joined more activities on the ship. My two boys age 11 and 13 also enjoyed the trip very much. They loved to visit the off limit and fun zone rooms for their age group. It's difficult to ask them to go back to our bedrooms before their activities end. This is great service for my hasband and me since we suddenly found that we can do a lot of things together without worrying about the kids. The only thing I think it can have some improvemments are the tours on the port day. Some of the tours are too short. For example, the Lands End tour in Cabo San Lucas is a rush rush fight to take pictures in a very short time on a rocking boat with many people trying to occupy the same spot. I felt there should be enough time to let the people go down to the beach by the Land's End Arch. End in Manztlan, the city tour can be expaned easily for another 2 hours to allow people more time strolling on the beach front walk. Over all, my expirience for the 7 days Mexico tour on Diamond Princess is very positive. I think the princess cruise line did a wonderful job. I meed a large number of people on princess cruise more than one times. Most of them have good things to say for the cruise line. This is my first time with princess cruise, and the first time wth any cruise. I think I will be a returned customer for this company.

Married At Sea! by K195068542

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

We sailed the Mexican Riviera (the ship now seems to be doing the Hawaii run), but we and our 35 guests that sailed with us for our "Tie the Knot at Sea" all seemed to have similar thoughts on Diamond Princess. The ship itself (still rather new) was amazing, the service was good but not phenominal, the staterooms were very nice, and there is plenty to do onboard. We all agreed that the food was nothing to brag about (4 restaurants that pretty much serve the same thing with a few exceptions), but the service in the restaurants from the wait staff is very good. You get to know them, they get to know you so that was nice. But did I mention the food itself was nothing to brag about? Their Sterling Steakhouse, although awkwardly set at the "back" end of the buffet, did have some wonderful steaks that everyone enjoyed. The Italian restaurant (forgot the name) featured more seafood dishes than anything else. The pool areas do get rather crowded during the day but we had little difficulty securing deck chairs at any given time. Seating for the evening entertainment was tough to come by if you didn't arrive early. Don't know if there's a larger room they could use for some of the evening shows, but they were rather popular. We didn't travel with children so we didn't use any of those services/activities but there were quite an number of things dedicated for "older" kids/teens like music, clubs, and an arcade. Many of our group previously cruised on Royal Caribbean's "Vision of the Seas" (same itinerary) and pretty much echoed the thought that the Diamond was a much nicer ship overall, some of the service and definitely the food was much better on RC. We do want to mention that the staff and particularly our wedding coordinator was phenomenal. That service was extremely attentive. With the "Tie the Know at Sea", we obviously didn't have as much control of many of the little things you'd have at a traditional wedding, but this was great being that we originally met on a cruise. Not to mention, your wedding photos will look amzaing as they shoot you on different parts of the ship!

try somewhere else by LaurenA7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

I have been on the Diamond Princess twice. The first time (November, 2004)was great, the second time (October 2006) was not so hot. If you don't like having to eat with strangers then you will love the anytime dining/restaurant atmosphere. There are 4 restaurants that you don't have to pay to eat and they're all beautiful. 2 years ago, they each served a different menu every night and the food was great. Now, all 4 restaurants have the exact same menu every night and the food is not very good. The 24 hour buffet on the ship was horrific! The breakfast was the same limited selection every single morning and the lunch was almost uneatable. After trying it twice, we stuck with the hamburgers and hotdots by the pool every day. The activies on board are lame and most cost money. If you want to learn napkin folding or play a trivia game for no prizes then you'll love this. The staff 2 years ago was first rate and very accomodating. The staff now was at times downright rude. One bad thing for passengers traveling w/out children. The ships staff does NOTHING to keep children out of adult access areas, including spa, gym and adults only pool. There have been many changes on the Diamond Princess over the last 2 years and only one was good. Their process of disembarkation has improved dramatically. Still, not worth it.

Big disappointment by PatB14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The embarkation process was disorganized involving standing in long lines for extended amounts of time and not actually getting onto the ship for over 4 hours. Then the entire cruise experience was tainted by the numbers of people who contracted the norovirus. Seeing cleaning crews in hazmat suits was unsettling. The entire crew looked exhausted and service was acceptable, but certainly less than exceptional. In all cases the food was mediocre; I actually lost weight on this cruise. For disembarkation there were hundreds of people waiting for extended times with no available restrooms. Passengers did not get invoices of their onboard charges before leaving the ship - computer problems. It all added up to a big disappointment.

Objectively - You can do much better! by AllenM3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska

Ship must be to big for them to coordinate good service at the price point they must be shooting for. The cruise in and of itself was pretty much a disappointment. It was more like a bus ride with a good buffet and a nice sleeper compartment, other than that it just got us from here to there. It was also disconcerting to find that at least the cruise before was troubled with a Norwalk virus problem that made a number of passengers and staff sick. Despite crew efforts this problem persisted on our cruise.

devastated by VirginiaL4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I love the pictures of the ship. It looks like so much fun. But honestly I didn't think it was worth $3200 to look at the pictures. I'm now sitting at home, broke and devasted. Especially sick about the statement made by a Pricess representative who had the nerve to tell me that "To be honest this hurts us too because you won't be on the ship to spend money on drinks and gifts etc. So we are losing too!" This was to be our first cruise to celebrate our 40th anniversary. But I feel like I was a fool and just scammed out of $3200 not counting the money spent on clothes, excursions, passports, etc.

A great cruise tour to Alaska and Canada by EdwinP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was a very beautiful and had many different restuarants and shops to visit. The ride was extremely smooth and the weather was great. The ship was well maintained and very clean. The ships crew went to a lot of effort to make the passenger comfortable.

Ship: Diamond Princess

I would just like to take a minute and express a word of appriciation to the Pricess Cruise staff. My wife and I just returned from the Mexican Rivera a-board the Diamond Princess. We were very impressed with the great servie with a smile. We will be looking to Cruise with princess in the future. This is due to the service we received while a-board the diamond princess. Thank you Jeremy And Tracie Panter First time Cruisers.

Wonderful crew by vixda

Good cruise to visit many Ports however at most Ports we had to pay $20 for shuttle bus, lots of complaints about that. Should be free to leave Port to get to town since Ports were in industrial areas.discovered it was cheaper to take Taxis

Good cruise but nearly left on the dock. by gridings1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess

Flight Centre booked our cruise with Princess Cruises in Japan and they did not confirm the booking. We were on the dock in Japan ready to board and we did not have a allocated room on the ship. After 4 hours on the dock and not being allowed to board, we finally boarded and were the last on the ship. Not a nice feeling, we were the last on the dock the staff were packing up and wishing us luck. Have reported this to Princess Cruises and Flight Centre and no response. Hopefully this review will get some response?
