How to screw up an Excellent rating on the last day. by delraytoo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

I have become a loyal fan of Princess cruises, having done three straight.  I have always had an excellent cruise until this cruise.  On the last day at seas, I woke up and had a bad case of diarhea. ASs I threw the sheet in his hamper I told the steward.  Next, medical came to visit.  After tests of blood pressure and temperature(no problem) I was told I was quaranteened. I told him I had no problem butsomething I had eaten. They told me they would check back. They never did.  Despite their boring meal recommendations, I ate dinner off the dining room menu.  No problem!  They refused to let me compete in a Pop Star contest at 10:30 that nigh.  If healthly after 24hours I would be released but not 18 hours.  In an attempt to find what time they would take us off the next morning, I called Personel Service, Medical and Medical Emergency all day and everyone said they would find out.  They never called back.  Finally in the afternoon, medical said "anytime".  The next morning we were ready at 7 p.m. and called Ex 5000 as directed.  For over 45 minutes we called all three numbers and finally were told "at 10:30 a.m"., which was too late for Dr Guth to catch a flight home about noon.  Soon, no one would answer their phone.  Finally a Ms.Joy Miller knocked about 7:50 a.m.and said she was the Medical Coordinator for the next cruise, just came onboard, and could she help?  She got a steward down for our baggage and had us off in 15 minutes. She deserves special recognition.  Where was the Medical Coordinator for my cruise?  I was told it was CDC requirement. My roommate was not checked or restricted Had someone from Medical returned later and checked me, they would have seen I was okay.  I missed a chance to win on on-borad singing competition for what?  How many others on board had a diarehia problem and did not report it to their steward?  I think it was over reported and poorly handled by Medical and Personnel  Services.  Everyone was passing the buck.  And I now doubt I will cruise with Princess again.

fantistic experience by songmei

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)

everyone on the cruise are great, they are not only doing their job but always try to excel it. the one who helped on our room clean up, organized very well everyday; the one who serve us on the dining is remembering everyone's preference after the first meal; anytime if there is a question comes up, always someone can help you on the ship, this is a wonderful experience for me and my family!

The friendliest most helpful staff in the industry! by tumblerats

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We have cruised with other companies and this is our second Princess cruise.  Their staff is

superior to the other companies.  It's not only the cabin stewards (which is expected) but every member

of the staff makes a point to greet you and ask if you need anything.

Incredible anniversary by popatkin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

My wife and I took this cruise at the last minute yet you would never have known if from the accommodations, courtesy and enjoyment we received.  Sitting in the "private" sanctuary area during the glacier bay viewing was particularly incredible.  Watching breathtaking glaciers in complete comfort and relaxation, snuggled up on thick cushions on lounge chairs with comfortable blankets, our own pool and a very accommodating wait staff serving the two dozen or so located in the area.  Worth every cent of the extra cost.  Also, the upgraded restaurants were well worth the additional cost, although the food at the regular restaurant was great.  And the scenery is absolutely unparalled.  It comes at you from every direction..  If I had to pick out something I was not fond of, it would be the photos and their pricing.  They need to have a means in which you can just request a copy of all of the photos, even if it is just on disc.  At the high price of each of the photos with no discount for additional prints, the price becomes very unreasonable and forces you to pick only one or two of the ones you may want.  Why not provide a package where, if you purchase 2 or 3 (what most people do) they throw in a CD of all of your photos at a nominal cost.  There should be some way to do that.  Anyway, that decision was optional and no one pushed you to purchase any photos, so it is hard to call that a valid complaint.  Bottom line, my wife and I would go again in a heartbeat.

Destination great, experience average by kidkoz1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Everything about Alaska lived up to its reputation. Service aboard the Coral Princess was extremely lacking. We appreciated the fact that the cruise line added the all inclusive drink package, but bar and wait staff seemed out right rude because of it. I can't remember one smile or polite conversation the whole week from a bartender. Many outwardly complained about the package. The food experience was also average because of the poor attitude at service. We had a great server at the steakhouse and on one occasion in main dining. Otherwise it was poor.the amenities aboard ship were excellent. We have been on two other cruise lines that offer all inclusive drink packages and we didn't experience any non friendly behavior because of it!

Relaxing & Comfortable Cruise by Pittsburghfan7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This is an excellent cruise for folks who really want to just relax on vacation. There aren't a ton of good entertainment options, but on this itinerary, you don't need a whole lot of options. If you're looking for a younger or energetic environment, this is not the cruise for you.The food was amazing everywhere except for Sabitini's. The best part is that the ship was never far from the cities we visited so we could conveniently come back to the ship and eat lunch or dinner. The service was amazing from the stateroom stewards, to the wait staff, to passenger services. I would recommend spending the extra money to get a balcony on this itinerary. It is worth it to not have to fight for a good view on deck while going through Glacier Bay and College Fjords. Overall it was a great way to celebrate our honeymoon/anniversary. We would do this cruise again in a heartbeat!Big Smile

My Coral Princess experience by betasam2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The cruise itself was wonderful, the best sleep I have had in a long time.

However, I was put out for about 10 hours due to a small flood in my office, I asked about it and all I got was it would take another hour to dry. No compensation or anything, I had to get ready for our dress up night.

The showers on this ship are way, way to small.

Staff on the cruise were wonderful, especially in the dining room

Half the ship was sick with the flu or colds.

Wonderful way to escape winter by dutch1bob

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

This is one of the best cruises that we have taken.  We actually liked it so much, that we did it two years in a row.  The ports of call are plentiful and quite interesting.  You can't go wrong with this one.

Overall a very good experience. by lrks25

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

We picked this ship for the Panama Canal experience and were not disappointed.  We were able to go thru the second part on a ferry excursion and loved the experience.  The Aruba horseback riding trip was excellent, and the aerial tram in Costa Rica was fun and interesting.  As with all cruises, some of the port stops were shorter than I would have liked so we didn't have a lot of time to wander, shop and get a feel for the port city (altho a few were not places to do that on your own).

The ship is a little worn, but the cabin and balcony we had were a good size.  The food was very good and the service from the dining room staff (Bordeaux any time dining) and the cabin steward we had was excellent.  Princess offers afternoon tea, white glove service in the dining room, which is a fun experience.  The entertainment was a little lacking, but the live band and singers and dancers put forth a good effort.  The Cruise Director and her staff were very good, but there could have been a few more activities on sea days, and a small prize at the end of a team game for the winners was missing. The ships crew, for the most part, were friendly and helpful, and altho there was an issue with some of the toilets not working properly for a few days, the ship was clean and a lot of alltention was paid to keeping it that way.

There were not a lot of children on the ship, and there were many older passengers, so if you are traveling with children you may want to think about that...altho they did have a program for the children on board.

Panama Cruise by kzaner

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The Ship has shown a little wear in the staterooms. The Entertainment was mediocre and poorly timed with dinner hours. All shows were only 30 minutes long. Food was better than average with good selections. Most of the crew were friendly but not all were and it was obvious. Our toilets failed to flush properly for several days and it was very inconvient. The ports were very good and the Canal experience with tour was worth it. Horse back riding in Aruba is a must. Columbia and Costa Rica interesting. Ocho Rios was better than I remember but we are done with Dunn River falls. See this on your own if you must. It's a public park and a tour is not necessary. Prices of gifts etc on ship more expensive than on land or versus Amazon.Stay with amazon for watches.

Panama canal by Crooner88678594

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Loved the food. It was very refined and excellent. The cinema  under the stars with pop corn was an excellent  idea at night. The excursions were costly but good. Our favorite one was the Panama Embera Indian village where we danced ,

ate and the interaction with this tribe. My wife and I loved loved the canoe ride and the fabulous surroundings of theChagres jungles. It was worth every penny a delightful experience. The only drawback were the night shows. They were good but not sufficient and a bit too short in comparison to other ships. The music especially the piano section was great excellent performances.

Good way to see the Panama Canal by BobSmolen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Overall, Princess did an exemplary job on this cruise. The itinerary was perfect. The ports of call and excursions were very well done. Crew was friendly and attentive. Entertainment was first rate. Food was portioned correctly and delicious. Our room and overall ship cleanliness was unbelievably good. On Board itineraries were jam packed yet there were plenty of places to go if/when you wanted to be quiet and do nothing. We do like Princess's Movie under the Stars. Reminded us of the Drive-In's we went to when we were younger.

Visiting the Panama Canal was spectacular. We chose the excursion that took a boat through the rest of the Canal to the Pacific Ocean. The smaller boat allowed us to get up close and see things that we would not be able to see from the deck of the ship. The guide on the boat was filled with facts and information that made the 5+hour tour well worth every penny.

It was our first visit to Costa Rica and we thought it was the hidden gem of the whole cruise. The pride and passion exhibited by the people we met over their desire to keep the rain forest as pristine as possible was inspiring. The country as a whole deserves more time and more investigation. We had been to Jamaica on other cruises and had stayed there on our honeymoon.  We really felt this country is maturing. They understand tourism and made us feel very welcomed and safe. The Duns River Falls area was developed, easily accessible, safe and above all fun.

We had grown accustomed to larger ship's Spa areas, so the Lotus Spa on the Coral was a bit of a disappointment. Not really worth the price. We could have easily not selected to use the Spa during this cruise and we would not have missed much.

Also, noticed, along with a lot of the other passengers, the  nightly shows were much shorter than we had experienced on other cruises. Most shows lasted 30-40 minutes, and although they were very well presented and worth seeing(standing room only every night), they just seemed to cut it a bit short.  We highly recommend this itinerary, the ship and crew.

Very good cruise.  Service excelent, food great.  Very helpful staff with one member of group in a wheelchair.  Wait staff and steward were wonderful.  Shore excursions for wheelchair person were limited.  Could not go on tender when we weren't docked.

Panama Canal Tour by Neuric01

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

This was a great cruise tour aboard the Coral Princess.  We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and the crew and ship were everything we had hoped for.  This was our fourth cruise aboard a Princess ship and we felt the Coral Princess with a capacity of around 2,000 guests was just the right size for us, not too big and certainly not too small.  Entertainment was also wonderful on the ship.  Another great Princess experience.

trip to Panama by nisa79077742

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

I would in general rate this trip as expected. There wasn't anything to rave about and there wasn't anything to really complain about except the train shore excursion in Panama. The dome car was very uncomfortable[there wasn't enough leg room] and at $400 for a couple overpriced.

Unbelievable charges foe most venues by Warmtemps

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Having cruised on different cruise lines over the past several years, both my husband and I were amazed at additional charges on venues that had been provided on previous cruises.  Among charges that we were stunned by were internet charges to print airline boarding  passes.

Loved it! by VivianH

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

View from the mountaintop looking down at our beautiful home at sea. Cruise was very well organized and efficient. I was very impressed as a nurse at the attention to every detail regarding cleanliness and infection control. I felt very safe and cared for in the midst of Noro virus issues in the news. Great job!

Panama Pleasure Cruise by DIYexcursions

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The itinerary was fantastic. Ship was very clean and servers were wonderful. Entertainment was seriously lacking, but that did not impact us too much. The instrumentalists were a highlight. All shows were only a half hour which was a negative, The food was exemplary, but they need to indicate healthy or low cal choices on the menu other than desserts. Our favorite excursion was in Panama where we rode dugout canoes through the rainforest to an Indian village where they hosted us with dancing and tropical food. The voyage in and out of FLorida was a definite draw so we did not have to fly cross country.

Not what I expected by mountainman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

We had several problems!

1) Plumbing problems

    Our comode quit flushing!

Numerous public bathrooms had all or part of the plumbing not working for entire cruise

2) Dining room service was bad

We sat at table 140 in Provence 5:30, with 3 other couples.  Service was unbelievably slow & if you wanted some more bread, water or butter, forget it.  I finally, after 4 days, lodged a complaint with the "head waiter" & a 2nd asistant was added.  Things improved to a satisfactory level, except they did not speak english very well.  Level of service while satisfactory, still was not as good, as I have come to expect on Princess.

3) Food quality not to standard of prior Princess cruises

4) Horizon court lunch restaurant, like a zoo

    Inadequate enforcement of sanitizer

No organization of food lines.  You had to almost fight your way through to get food.   I quit going because I couldn't handle it.  Ate Pizza instead
