Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My family had a great time on the cruise. The food was great the entertainment was outstanding. The layout of the ship was excessable on all the decks. The staff made us feel welcome. The only draw back the weather sucked from NY to Port Canveral. Never had snow on the decks before but there was plenty to do on the inside of the ship.

Carnival Splendor - 8 Day NY to FL and Bahamas by ERC0114

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The ship and the crew were both amazing.  Even though the weather wasn't great, the entire trip was great.  Our dining room service team was pleasant and accommodating the entire cruise.  Our room steward was helpful and courteous as well.  There was always something going on to keep busy.  Whether it was bingo, stageshows, comedy shows, trivia, or game shows, there was never a dull moment on the Carnival Splendor!

Carnival Spelndor by stormyjones

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We had a noice time but was very disappointed by the ports they are a waste to even stop at. The boat was nice although for a boat this size to only have 2 shops was disappointing! at least 5 would have been adequate. The food was top shelf! Very pleased with the food and the staff was terriffic.

Carnival as a Cruise Line is "no Frills" for sure...Would not recommend... by KTDBC80

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Carnival as a cruise line is falling apart.  Service in the dining room was lousy.  They are sooo under staffed, on 2 separate nights, I waited after sitting down up to 15 mins to even have someone acknowledge my party of 5 had sat down.  After the 1st incident, I asked to have the Maitre De Ramesh contact me in my stateroom (6401). A  plate of "treats" with a "Sorry" note from the girl who worked nightly at the table arrangement desk for Any Time Seating...no call from Ramesh. The pizza and deli counters typically had 1 (ONE) person working, with lines 15 to 20 long during hours Carnival SHOULD expect demand to be high.  The rooms were not cleaned very well...I intentionally left stuff on my cabin floor to see if it would be vacumm cleaned up...still there after my bed was made...every day. There was hardly anything to do for activities for my 25, 24 and 20 year olds...multiple times they were not able to get into the comedy shows...doors closed...simple put, comedy shows was one of the only things to do that was worth going to, so the whole ship ran to the shows on sea nights. The creativity and variety of food on things like breakfast and lunch was "identical" day after day...zero surprise's from the head cook...I can tell you the menu of breakfast and each lunch station...they wee always the same.  The Mongolian restaurant took my family 40 mins in line to get our food made...3 guys cooking on a good day...normally 2. You could basically never get in the jacuzzi because drinkers would never get out...and kids were allowed to snorkel in the jacuzzi...!!! No controls in place by Carnival. As bad as the weather was, that was the least of the disappointment with Carnival. Even the Cigar Lounge, "The Cool"...did not even have a TV or 2 to watch sports games and stuff while smoking a cigar, which was available on the Norwegian and Princess Cruises I have been on with my wife.  Carnival is not doing well...  Guess you get what you pay for... Carnival is certainly the low budget no frills cruise line of today...

This is honestly my 2nd striaght time sailing with Carnival out of NY on the Canaveral, Nassau, Freeport route, and both times it was a huge dissapointment.

CARNIVAL is apparently plagued by the mishaps with ships and the services the last 2 cruises are showing clearly that Carnival is the "cheap line"...and to call them Fun Ships...hardly...when you cut $$s, services across the board show...and it is clear...

Amazing first experience by Cm26flah

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

As a grad student, the prices were perfect! So many people were open and willing to have a conversation, even with strangers! I met so many new people that I still have kept in touch with.  The entertainment staff is what put the trip over the top! They made my first cruise a memorable one! They remembered my name and always made sure everyone was having a great time! The cleaning staff also knew me by name and always left us a surprise in our room! Everyone on cruises rave about how much food you eat.  Yes, the food was great but you don't have to eat as much as others say.  The portions for dinner are smaller and I loved that because nothing goes to waste.  I even went to the spa and it was a relaxing start to my week.  I cannot wait for my next cruise but I am afraid it will not compare to how amazing my first one was!

i was surprized at the lack of pride the crew members display. Except for our cabin steward, Eddie, most were unfriendly.  Dining service was terrible.  The Lido buffet restaurant was dirty and lines were too long. No sense of urgeny from the crew.

First cruise by Cally671

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My hubby and I were on our first ever cruise. We travelled from NYC to Bahamas. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side but that can not be helped. We had a lot of friendly staff on the ship. Many things to do. Our excursions were wonderful, despite the weather. The entertainment crew was great. We met a lot of new people that we kind and friendly from all over the world. If we were to cruise to again, I would definitely go Carnival.

Ship is great. Clean, lots to do. A lot of balcony rooms. If your going on this ship, get a balcony. Ship is big and has plenty to keep you entertained all day and night.

great trip by soontoretire

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The rooms were more spacious than most I have been on. The people were awesome, could not thank them enough.

Some shows were cancelled due to weather but that is totally out of their control.

Great experience by cruisecrayzee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

It was my first cruise and I was a bit anxious about the trip as I did not know what to expect...I read multiple reviews before booking my trip and after reading them I was more confused than ever, some people raved about the cruise and some stated it was horible. I figured I will have to find out for myself.

Check in/boarding process was extremly well organized and I must admit it went fast and smooth compared to all my flight experiences.

The food was better than I expected. I've been to many all-inclusive resorts in DR and the cruise food was million times better. 24 hour pizza and room service were great too.

Entertainment was good. One night the show was cancelled due to boat rocking, I was surpirised they did not have anything low key in reserve, but that's the only complaint I got really.

Waiters/stewards and staff were very nice and helpful.

I will definitely cruise with Carnival again.

not the best. by lenore9645421

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Last cruise we went on was royal caribbean.  We were disappointed with everything.  I did not want to eat meals like i was in high school, cafeteria style. We were on the ship for new years eve,but that night was not a dress up night.WHY NOT!!! We had last seating dinner, so we would have to run and hope to get in the shows that had already started..  Wont do Carnival again..

Won`t do it again! by tali

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

the good thing about this ship is the service.

The bad, where to start?! the quality of the food was mediocer & if you want to choose & eat a better quality food (e.g., asian) you need to stand in line for 35 min., the lack of activities, there where days on the ship that we where trying to find something to do either for the grown ups & for the kids. After visiting one time at the kids club, none of the kids did not want to returen, the show at night wasn`t always suitable for the kids (in the 2nd day, the theme is Cabaret & the dancers (women) where wearing a very provoבative outfit & since the kids club was a disapoitment they where sitting with us. the upper deck (9th floor)  - was the noisiest can be - it was at times a movie theater that you couldn`t realy hear, at times a bingo play place & sometimes a dancing place - all those activities where soooo loud!  the excursion where expensive & not worth a dime (they took us in a baot to Carnival beach in the BAhamas - it was a scam!!! so expensive for a simple beach & an all american lunch - they are taking advantage of the fact that we are tourist that dont know the area, we could have taken a cab that cost 5$ to a beach around instead of paying the 70$ per person - it was a rip off as was the whole cruise!!!!

Carnival Splendor by 1stTimeOnCarn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The pro's:  the rooms were much larger than other ships and the food and staff was great. The retractable roof over the pool in poor weather was quite nice.

The con's:  There were very little activities on the ship for both kids and/or adults.  My 12 yr. old daughter is used to finding friends and roaming the ship...on the Splendor that essentially consisted of going up and down the elevators.  The decor...rather poor compared to Royal, Celebrity, and Norweign.

It's Splendor time! by cruisingnewyork

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We set sail for the Bahamas cruise from New York to The Bahamas on Dec 19th. We had done our homework on the boat and new it would be hard to be entertained for 4 days of sea time, but thought there would be plenty of entertainment to keep us busy. Although the crew did do a great job for all the "partiers" on the boat, there was not really much to do for the "non drinkers, non gamblers" or the teenagers. We've been on boats previously that had plenty for the kids to do, but not so much for this one. It seemed like all the teenagers on this boat had the same problem because they hung out the dinnning places a lot. We were disappointed in the shopping too. Highly disapointed in the food. It seemed like it was the same stuff day in and day out unless you went to the fine dinning everynight. We did just that so that we could have a decent meal. The buffet times were terrible and when you went to the pizza place, which was the only thing open 24 hours, it was bad service and you couldn't order what you wanted. You got what they gave you, or you didn't get any. The last night was ridiculous with food. Everything closed up early and the pizza place had one cook and you couldn't get anything because they were so slow. It was like they did it on purpose.

Our cabin steward and find dinning waiters were aweseome. They did everything they could to make us happy. We enjoyed them all. The shows in the evening were all wonderful!

The port times were awful! Carnival should really look into being able to make them longer and more apporpriate times. We were only at Freeport until 3! That's terrible! Thankfully it started raining anyway, so we wanted to go in, but we had hardly no time for shopping and beach. Why else do you go to Freeport other than the shopping and the beach. More time critical!!!

I rated it as a 3 star only because of the entertainment and our immediate assistance (cabin and fine dinning), other than that, I don't think Carnival has it quite going on yet. I would probably pick another cruise line to go with next time.

Christmas Cruise by cruisinglover

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was the first time my family was away for Christmas Day.  Carnival decorated the ship in a very festive way with Christmas trees and garland and lights.  They had numerous Christmas type activities and a nice Christmas show.  We were pleasantly surprised at how many ways they celebrated the holiday.  The food in the dining room was wonderful - no complaints there!  The only thing lacking was the quality and selection of food on the buffet.  Compared to other cruise lines, this buffet experience was very disappointing. Very few selections and what was there was not very good.

Also, they have an alcoholic beverage package called "Cheers Program."  It's a great idea but at $50 per person per day, you really feel as if you need to drink at least 7 or so drinks per day (real drinks, not just beer) in order to get your money's worth.  I purchased the package and found myself drinking more than I usually would  just to make it worth it.  I think they would have less intoxicated people if they allowed a couple to share the drink package.  Since they limit you to 15 drinks in a 24 hour period, they would still serve you no more than 15 drinks, but since those drinks would be shared by two people, neither would be intoxicated.

A little disapointed by NYCRUISER1109

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I picked this cruise thinking school was still in and there wouldn't be so many kids and I was disappointed because there were just to many kids. We couldn't use the whilrlpools the kids were in them unattended. We did go to the adult side and that to was just so over crowded. The spa was so overpriced...I couldn't believe there was a charge to use the hot tub in the spa. I booked a facial for the first day in port I got there 5 minutes before my appointment and I waited and waited and I asked reception she went in the back when she came out she said it will be a few minutes so I waited another 10 minutes and again I said my appointment was for 11:30 now it is 11:50 receptionist then said do I want to reschedule I said NO she went to the back again came out and said Tatianna is late that I should reschedule I said no to cancell and make sure I am not charged for any part of this facial by this time it was 12:05 and I was angry because I was told if I cancelled there was a $50.00 charge BUT no compansion when the staff didn't show up and wasted my time.

The shows were ok, one show was great Marcus Anthony he was fabulas.

The food was good. The cabin stewart was very good and so was the dining crew.

NO I don't think I will travel Carnival again.
