Best Vacation Ever by marsha25

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Had loads of fun on the ship and my excursions. I stopped in Cozumel, Belize, Roatan and Grand Cayman. Roatan was my favorite stop, the beach was to die for and zip line was great with South Shore. On the ship the comedy shows were great and Dj Castro in the night club was awesome. The staff was very helpful, friendly and engaging. Definately will take my next cruise soon with Carnival.Big Smile

Carnival skimping by gdrobinson1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I am a long time Carnival cruiser and love the line, the problem is that they are cutting back on so many things it is taking away from the experience. Examples are there used to be at least 4 choices for meals at the buffet on the Lido now there is 1 with yes 3-4 other staples included, entertainment has fallen off as well. Still the best value for money for what is out there today but come on Carnival it cant always be about the dollar

Wonderful Ship! by PattyAF

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had "faster to the fun", so were one of the first to be on the ship.  We had a wonderful lunch on the Lido Deck & headed down to our state room, which was ready & our suitcases were waiting  because of buying the "faster to the fun" pass.  We requested the beds to be put together ahead of time but they weren't so we pushed them together.  The room was very large with a huge counter to lay out all our stuff. I was concerned because we booked at the last minute & had a cabin on Deck 1 but I think it's one of the biggest cabins we have had & it was very quiet.  There were only cabins on that deck.

Loved the shows - I was getting sick of the comedy shows taking over other ships but this had some awesome singers & dancers on several nights.

I'm 62 but participated in the Dr. Seuss Parade along with my daughter & grandson.  It was fun to march around the ship holding Dr. Seuss characters & my daughter ended up participating in story time.  The Dr. Seuss breakfast is awesome.  It cost's an extra $5/person but well worth it.  The decorations were great & they had green eggs & ham, colored pancakes that were stacked up to look like the cats red & white hat, the kids had their pictures taken with characters - just a fun time for the last day before departing.

My only complaint was the cruise director. They have to have a bit of an ego to do their job but he was so arrogant.   At the end of story time he was having his pictures taken with several groups of girls so I told my grandson to go next to him when the last two girls were done so I could get a picture of them with Flat Stanley (a school project). The cruise director took one look at him & said "get off the stage". I started to tell him we wanted a picture of him with Flat Stanley for school & he totally ignored me & walked off.  He was standing In the customs area when we were leaving & asked how the cruise was.  I made the comment I couldn't believe he was talking to us now that we were leaving when he was rude to us before.  He started getting a little "uppy" & said he wasn't rude to anyone. I told him what happened & he said he told all the kids to get off the stage.  I told him he was up there having his picture taken at least 5 times in a row with little girls.  He said he didn't have pictures taken with anyone.  I just stared at him and asked why he was lying and walked off.  I didn't get to be 62-years-old by being bullied by an arrogant cruise director.

They also had pretty good food on this ship.  The dining staff was awesome (we ate in the Gold Pearl).  We did have a problem on the first night.  We were seated with a family of 8 & they kept cussing, making racial comments & one child ate the butter with a spoon out of the butter dish then had a temper tantrum kicking & screaming under the table.  We were moved the next night without any problems!

Everyone of the staff was great - bars, dining rooms, spa, service desk, stewards.

I would love to cruise on this ship again but it will be leaving in May to be home-ported out of New York.

Get away and relax with this cruise.... by bwepllc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

For the price, it was the best deal around and Carnival seems to have the best food too!! Having been on Royal C and others I can honestly say this is a best deal with stops that are educational and interesting as well. If there is a dislike it is the "hustle games" in the game room that take advantage of folks in my mind and the changing costs of the cruise before booking, wish a consistent pricing in the future, just now seeing an ad for $369 and we paid $509....yet still a great deal for the price and again, the food is terrific compared to others...

Spring Break 2015 cruise by charmainelayne

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is an excellent itinerary. Highly recommend the cruise but not so keen on the cruise ship. Splendor is in need of an overhaul. Chipped paint, worn chairs in Gold Pearl dining room and in the buffet, even the logo, the tail fin funnel was in need of a paint job! The decor is much too gaudy for my personal taste. It is a bit disorienting. The staff however was excellent; friendly and inviting.

Ready for the refit by londonphil

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The Splendor is an old ship, with some old ship problems. Not me, but several of the guests indicated the food was bland, but they were all on some form of motion sickness meds...seemed like an interesting correlation. When we docked in Nassau, the announcer indicated if we didn't have an excursion, we should probably stay on the ship. If that is the case, the ship probably shouldn't stop there (just my opinion). Overall, I think cruising is probably the best way to vacation, however, the right ship at the right time can make all the difference.

Spring Break With College Age Granddaughters by lindamiles

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our entire trip from the booking to the final day of our cruise was magnificent. We had never booked through Cruises Only and thought the price per person was unbelievably low for three...therefore we must not have a nice cabin. We were totally impressed that we had two twin beds for the girls and a very comfortable sofa bed for me. Three closets and plenty of room in the well lit bathroom. The show entertainment was superb and we enjoyed the nightly shows each evening. The wait staff and our cabin attendant could not have been better. The food was great with nice selections for dinner each evening. Our 4 ports of call were all fun, safe and we could not have asked for better weather. We did the Stingray Rum Point excursion and that topped off the perfect cruise on Grand Cayman Day. I have already recommended Cruises Only to my friends, family and those on the cruise we met. Thank you for a most wonderful experience. Love

Carnival Splendor Rocks! by TuralAghaly

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had fantastic time on our cruise! Nothing to compare with!

The quality of room was excellent. Always clean, tidy. The room was smaller than the hotel rooms, but the space was sufficient to move around, put our luggage. The closets were spacious. The room has a queen bed, a sofa, TV, and everying else that you'd need for 7 night stay. The room door was narrow, so we had to fold the stroller to enter.

The food was outstanding. All delicacies. Lobster, snails, frog legs, and etc. Everyday something new and yummy! The waiters go above and beyond to make your dinners enjoyable. Our waiter was Arnold and he was outstanding. No food restrictions - eat as much as you can.

Very friendly personnel in general except for a hostess from Belarus. I think her name was Yulia. She was rude and not willing to accommodate our request to sit near the window during breakfasts. On one of the mornings she said she is going to re-seat us because we're sitting in inappropriate place. She went and never came back again. We waited for her 15 minutes with a child on hand, and then asked a different hostess to re-seat us. The hostess from Bulgaria though was very friendly and accommodating. Can't remember her name, but she is a fabulous person. She made our mornings!

The other issue we encountered was at the "kindergarten". We left our 1.5 year old boy for couple hours with the nannies at 10pm. The minute he started to cry they would call us immediately to get him. They never tried to calm him down or play with him. One of the nannies was from Peru, and the other from Serbia.

The ship was gorgeous! Beautiful and colorful. The days were full of activities and the nights full of entertainment. We enjoyed every moment we spent on and off the ship. The Carnival Splendor provided amazing cruise to different Islands. My wife and I are full of sweet memories and unforgettable moments from this cruise. It was our first cruise experience and we're already planning for the next cruise in September this year.

Excellent cruise with great service by bensposato

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The destinations are great and the service on the cruise is outstanding.  I recommend going to dinner at the restaurant every night as opposed to the buffet.  The restaurant is a 5+ course meal and the food is amazing.  Our waiter team was fantastic. Juan from Peru and Putu from Indonesia knew us by name and exactly what we liked.  Great people.

Overall, great time.

Carnival First-timer by nmerrim

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Have taken 12 cruises, this was the first Carnival.  On the plus side; room had plenty of storage, the ship was clean, and the decor was fun.  Embarkation and debarkation went quickly.  The food was adequate but not great.  Given that it was so much less expensive than our other cruises this was all okay.  Our choice was based on the itinerary to enjoy as much snorkeling as possible.  The ports were great for this.  On the downside; our room on the 8th floor in the back of the ship was really noisy with chairs moving on the floor above us.  The noise started at roughly 7:00 am and continued until at least midnight.  However, the worst part was that the spring breakers overtook the adult pool area from late afternoon on.  No enjoyment or consideration for anyone else on the ship.  Heard them outside our stateroom most night basically talking outside our door as late as 4:00 am.  Really not fun.

First and Second Cruise by haustin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was my first cruise and my wife's second cruise. I had a wonderful time and my wife did too. I sang karaoke and  there wasn't enough songs to select from and the sound system was substandard in my opinion. The comedians needed a bigger room for there show, a couple of shows  were filled to capacity and we were turned away, a little disappointed in that respect. There was also a veterans meet and greet however I think there should have been a representative from the ship to facilitate the greeting. In the casino there is suppose to be a smoking and nonsmoking section however you couldn't tell that because every where I went to get away from the smoking there was someone there puffing away...All in all my wife and I had an enjoyable cruise.

another great cruise by elgofish

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Love We own a small business and are only able to take time away from it one week a year. Carnival cruises gives us a great way to relax. We enjoyed the Splendor a great deal. Friendly crew, clean, the ship just had a great vacation vibe. We are looking forward to sailing her again after her renovation in 2016. We really missed the Guy's SMC burgers!  The shows were very entertaining and the comedy club had good comedians. Love! Love! Grand Turk it's the best port for beach time.

FER THE MOST PART by byerjeffrey

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Carnival is really trying to make your cruise great. The meals and service were great and topped off by fantastic shows after dinner. The ship is well maintained and the comedy is top notch.

However, the karaoke machines are outdated and the songs one can choose are few and still on discs which are prehistoric. They really need better equipment considering they offer it six nights out of seven.

Carnival is not afraid to offer true adult entertainment in their comedy and late night shows and the guests feel truly like the entertainment is at their level and kids are told to go home because the shows are for their entertainment.

Honeymoon on the Splendor by FongMan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is my second cruise and it was great. Dinner was awesome every day, tried the steak house and that was excellent. Lunch and breakfast got boring really quick but overall not bad.

Facilities were comfortable and fun. Love the theatre, very impressed with the equipment. Spa was satisfying and relaxing. Gym has a lot of cardio equipment but fairly limited in weights/lifting equipment. Cruise is very well organized and efficient. Staff is friendly and engaging. Cruise director was extremely informative and entertaining, always knew how to make his guests laugh.

Overall very satisfied and looking forward to cruising with Carnival again.

My wife and I were highly pleased with the personableness of the crew and the professional mannor they had with the patrons.  Top notch food preparations.  Vegas quality shows.  Everything you could possibly want on a 7 day cruise.  I would sail with the same company again and feel that the quality is keeping up with the industry as a whole.
