only one big mistake by kumquatten14

we enjoyed the staff with one exception....although we requested anytime dining 3 months in advance we were assigned to the 8:15pm sitting and far away from the other couple with us.....worse part was the dining room's insistence ....on the other hand head waiter and waiter were way above average.......front dining room staff at  the golden pearl at sea day brunches were rude and our requests were dismissed....cabin service and steward was great......all other staff better than expected.......entertainment and food and casino pretty good......most of all we loved the splendor....what a ship!.......a delight to sail on it......pool nice and warm also....we sailed thru stormy seas but slept like babies as joachin threatened......

Nice time and the right price! by lindavanv39

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

We enjoyed almost everything about our cruise - the food was delicious, the staff all were so pleasant.  The ship was spotless!

The only issue we have is we felt the entertainment was lacking.  We had the late seating for dinner - 8:15 - by the time we were out of the dining room, there were no seats left for the the movie any night.  So we missed it - also, felt there needed to be more than trivia during the seadays - would have liked a movie in the afternoon -

The other complaint - while the covered pool is beautiful, the grill is there.  So all day long, the area smelled of greased and was pool area was smokey - not so great for someone with asthma!  So, we did not take advantage of the lovely pool.

Waste of Money by fladove2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The crew didn't know how to handle the amount of passengers for boarding and leaving the boat causing many missed opportunities as well as missing the flight back home. The we purchased highlights of st John tour and it didn't allow enough time in the market or at the falls to allow anyone with handicaps time enough to even bother to get off the bus, those of us that are hardy were unable to see the whole market in the time frame allowed. The food on board the ship wasn't up to Carnivals standards and left many as well as myself unhappy. The staff was trying to be helpful but they over booked the my time dinning . Though it wasn't the fault of the captain it was upsetting that we were unable to go into Halifax. I feel that they should have allowed us use of our phones during the time we would have been off the ship as it cause my family unneeded worry when they were unable to get a call to me when I was suppose to be off the ship.

Nothing Special For Sure by billcave

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Judging from our past cruises, I was really surprised at the poor quality of the food on this ship.  It was the topic of many other people on this ship.  They have no problem with charging you a daily rate for soft drinks, but you will have a hard time finding them.  You will have to go to the bar to get this and then take it back to the buffet room.  They only offer Lemonade, Tea or Coffee.  Our cabin was great and so was the service, but the food was absolutely horrible!  If this food quality is indicative of the Spender, than I may  consider using Carnival again.  If not than we won't use Carnival ever.

We had a wonderful trip.  We especially liked the strawberry soup and the melted chocolate dessert.  We did more than eat, however.  Carnival is a great cruise line.

40th anniversary cruise by sneedah

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Great trip.  Mostly an older crowd and most people were friendly.  Interesting to hear from other passengers about all the cruising experiences.  Desserts were better on Splendor than on the Liberty cruise we took in April, but service in the dining room was poor.  We were late getting into Boston due to ship problems, but we grabbed a taxi to Quincy Market and walked a bit of the Freedom Trail with fellow passengers we found in the market area.  Portland was fine, but not much to do or see without an excursion.  Enjoyed Halifax and St. John very much.  People were friendly everywhere.  We were so fortunate to have beautiful weather everywhere.

Carnival Splendor Cruise by Sandy911

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

It is hard for me to judge many aspects of the cruise since this was my first cruise.

I was not happy with the finding several of the dishes in the Lido Deck was not clean.

The crew was friendly.  The evening shows were Beautiful, and the comedian's were very good.

We were fortunate to have beautiful weather until we got to Halifax.  Unfortunately it was so foggy we could not see your hand in front of your face.

7 Night Canada & New England Cruise by robbiekitchen3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

HappyMy husband and I took this cruise because we always traveled to the Caribbean and not anywhere else. The 7 Night Canada & New England Cruise seem like the perfect cruise to explore new surroundings other than blue waters and beaches. Not that we didn't enjoy beautiful beaches and crystal blue water but, rather something different like historical monuments and rolling hills. Our accommodations were excellent in our ocean cabin. The balcony and large bathroom was perfect for us. The young man taking care of us was truly exceptional, remembering our names and keeping us supplied with plenty of water and ice, which we liked. Dining can be a challenge when accommodating such a large passenger guest list. The chefs onboard certainly met the challenge, providing various on trays for us to enjoy. Entertainment, without a doubt, keep us going, whether it was Bingo, Art Auctions or just watching a movie on deck. The fun never stopped. The Cloud 9 Spa was a wonderful experience, with exercising in the morning and evening to the latest technology in skin care. My favorite was the shore excursions. Ports of Call in Boston, MA and Portland, ME depicted beautiful cities rich in history about America. These cities are clean and friendly to tourists, like myself. Also, venturing into Canada was exciting. Thick fog awaited us apparently in Canada but, that's to be expected from these small Province's of NB and NS. Cities rich in fisheries and arts and crafts. The people of Canada are very friendly and welcoming. I found it amazing how the Captain of our cruise was able to maneuver through the weather, like rain and fog and keep the passengers and crew in confident spirits throughout our voyage. The overall experience was excellent. Simply relaxing, yet enriching with history of our forefathers. I highly recommend this cruise for a change in scenery compared to the Carribean. Not that the Carribean is beautiful but, so is New England and Canada!

We enjoyed our cruise! Although NYC is very busy and we will probably not leave from there again. We are older and the crowds are to large getting on and off with traffic was hard for us.

Great Ports by cldcbates1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The ports on this cruise were excellent. So many beautiful places to go. The ship was nice, cabin felt spacious and bathroom had plenty of room. The negative was there wasn't enough activities to do unless you wanted to spend the whole day playing trivia. The schedule showed the basketball court was opened sunrise to 5:30 and half the time it was never opened with no explanation. Cruise director and his staff except for Allison and Darnell was quite a disappointment.

Carnival Splendor New England and Canadian tour by pamlewis

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

I took the cruise with my mom as a present for her 80th birthday. This was her second cruise (the first on Costa), this was my fifth or sixth cruise, my first on Carnival. Overall, the cruise was good.  The food was plentiful and overall good. We ate twice in the Pinnacle restaurant which was very good, great presentation, competent service- there was a piano at the restaurant but no one way playing it either night- this would have been a nice touch and elegant. It would have been a nice touch to also have flowers on the tables- there were no flowers anywhere on the boat.  On other boats, I would say that the food was prepared more elaborately and presented more elaborately.  There was cocktail parties and a meet and greet with the captain and photos with him- this did not happen on Carnival.  Also, there were many opportunities on other cruise ships for free lectures, events and I would have enjoyed more opportunities like this.  I attended one art event and bought a painting, one glass of champagne was provided - in the past more champagne and more elaborate talks were provided which made the event more inviting and people bought a good deal of art.  I would have liked to see more diversity like Rembrandt etching- I bought three on another cruise and numerous other paintings over the years on other cruises, through Park West, very knowledgeable people, but, there was little I wanted to bid on this cruise to be candid. I liked the shows but, they were not promoted as well as they should have been- just a list in the schedule- I think people would be more enthused if they knew about all the dynamic music, costumes, etc... really an extravaganza not to be missed- ex: the Hispanic event- I almost passed on it- didn't sound that fun but, was really excellent.  More info re; the ports, more info from captain, more info re; where to go, history etc... would have been very helpful and was not provided.  Other  cruises provided more.  Would have liked opportunities to dance and dress up more, even hear different music, guitar classical, background piano.I booked all excursions except Portland through you not the line as the savings were better.  All were very good and comprehensive. I took a similar cruise and we stopped in RI- Newport- and Bar Harbor. Maine- such stops would have been enjoyable. We had a balcony room- lovely well appointed and large- 6th floor. I will say the decor for much of the ship common areas was very pink- and busy.  Pretty Pepto Bismal- might want to tone down- loved the El Morrocco, other performance areas. Loved the water slide and

Had a SPLEDID time on the Splendor by jomarkpro

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Ok let me get this out of the way.  The ship is pink!  Ok once you get past that we had an amazing time.  The ship is getting ready for dry dock and will get some really nice additions but whole experience was wonderful.  So many people talk as if the food is terrible I really wonder where they go at supper time because we had great food.  Weather in the dining room or the ledo deck it was all good.  Add to that nice shows and a great New England experience and you have one great vacation.  I would take this ship again.  By the way my wife and I have been on 5 other cruises so we kind of know what we like.  I will be cruising with Carnival again.

Disappointed the food and entertainment is not as good as Carnival Glory which I joined before with same tirp by szechunkum

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

There are different food counter just as Fish and Chips, Burger station, Burrito .... in Carnival Glory which is so delicious and attractive to everyone on board

The desert is also better than this Carnival Splendor

Only concentrate lemonade in cold drink but no orange juice or apple juice........ \

The buffet dinning room seats always wet with water mark and lots of dirty mark on it

We remember there are lots of music bands and music physical exercise class on board for the ladies but we can't find anything on this trip

No warm water swimming pool, Jacuzzie pool is much less than the other cruise such as Norwegian and Royal Caribbean ....

Room cleaning is above average much better than the other service on this ship

Overall I will try the other cruise on my next cruise plan in the next coming years
