Alaska, A must see!!! by hulaholly

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our overall trip to on Carnival Cruise to Alaska was very good.  The housekeeping staff, wait staff and help desk staff did an above and beyond job, taking care of all our needs and making us feel welcomed and at home.

The buffet food could be improved apon, for example a pasta bar, like they have for special order pizzas, more options in the salad bar and better coffee.

The dinners were very good and well prepared, again wait staff were excellent!

I think we needed more time in Ketchacan and Victoria.  More shopping options aboard ship and additional giveaways would be nice would help guest participation.

Our excretions were well planned except in Victoria were we got into port at 7:30pm so we could not use our bus tour, and will be applying for a full refund.

Again, over all our trip to Alaska was a once in a life time experience and we are all greatful we had the opportunity to go.

Wonderful cruise by vjohn49

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The excursions were the best, especially if you had just a small group.   Food was wonderful with great 24 access.  Only one indoor place to sit and smoke, having to be in casino was awful (I don't drink or gamble).

A Great trip! by John806

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Everyone was great.the ship was clean. All the comics were funny!! Lots of things to keep you busy if that's what you're looking for. The steak house was great  and the food in the dining room was also very good.  The food on the Lido deck was not so hot. In the morning they had one guy making omelettes for 10 people . The other stuff was ok not too bad.

Amazing view good trip by bertocchib

Great experience amazing views.....

but the food kind of ran together at the end, shops weren't always open breakfast needs to be stepped up. Our room steward Vicente made our stay amazing.  Truffles dining staff member Gusteau is outstanding. They both went out of the way to make our trip memorable. Top notch service from two great team members. Boat was clean and overall staff were friendly. Bingo was a joke for the price you pay and the prizes its hardly worth your time. The 1st prize was only $90. Packages were 20 to 40. A complete joke.

Great crew; beautiful scenery; food and fellow passengers are the downside by tatejm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The crew of the Legend took great care of us.  They were service oriented and we had no complaints.  The food was average.  Good food but not a lot of flavor or selection.  Limited gluten free options.  There were a lot of families with young children aboard and the kids were often loose.  Selection of shore excursions was extensive.  Shipboard entertainment options were plentiful.  Scenery was awesome!

Alaska Cruise 6/31/16 by jrobinsonsrr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

The scenery was beautiful. The staff was exceptional. I wish we could have spent more time in Ketchican and not stopped in Victoria since there was nothing to do there late in the evening. I would recommend the cruise to my friends.

Boat was so so and so was itinerary.  Out of the 3 Carnival ships I've been on, I liked this one least.  Time at ports was strange and not to the benefit of the passengers.

Dan's review by dansueheld

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Carnival did its usual fine job , but we were not 100% satisfied with two things:

1.   There was no explicit warnings on-line or in email correspondence that in capital letters:  NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO BOARD THE SHIP IN SEATTLE WITHOUT VALID PASSPORT OR EQUIVALENT BIRTH CERTIFICATE.    We had to pay $700 on date of sailing to expedite two passport cards within a time frame of 5 hours costing us boarding of SeaTac shuttle as pre-paid for, etc.  Sailing date was one of the worst of our entire lives and we very nearly missed ship boarding altogether.

2.   The Nouveau Steakhouse, while nice, served what we regard as very average quality food even though nicely presented.   For an Alaskan Cruise we'd expected far more fresh Alaskan seafood on board and found NONE even at the Nouveau.

Best Vacation EVER! by Bankermom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

My husband, son, and I returned this week and must say it was the best vacation we have ever taken!  We were blown away by the service we received on the Carnival Legend.  We did experience a long wait time in Juneau as we had to tender; and again in Victoria awaiting clearance; however, neither situation was the fault of the cruise line.  This was our second cruise with Carnival.  We received excellent service, both in our stateroom and dining.  Favorite stop was Skagway and the bus trip excursion to The Summit!  Will definitely book with Carnival again!

Cruise was awesome carnival is cutting back even more by SASpooner2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The cruise itinerary was spectacular. We saw all sorts of wildlife orcas, humpback whales, brown n black bears, caribou, and mountain goats. Would highly recommend the evening whale watch tour..has amazing views and the train ride to white pass..the seaplane was aldo cool in Ketchikan. The ship was nice and clean and staff were friendly. We were late arriving in several ports of call. The food was so so seems carnival is beginning to skimp here burgers were terrible dry and tasteless..other food was average at best. The steak house and bon sai we great as always for an additional charge. Carnival noe does not invite past guests with gold cards to the past guest party which is total bs. I am one shy of platnimum and they continue to take benes away..thinking about switching from the carnival brand. As a loyal customer i am not impressed.

Boy Has Carnival Changed by loveroadlife

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We have cruised with Carnival for a long time. In fact we have 35 cruises with them. In fact we are at the Diamond scale on their VIFP program. The last couple have been terrible. The officers have been very rude and seam to only be there for their pay check. I really do not think that the crew needs to be getting drunk in the Red Frog lounge as well. Now to the food. The quality of the food has gone way down over the past few years as well. I am sure that people that do not cruise as much as we do would think that everything is great but we have seen a big change in Carnival over the past years. We have been on many other cruise lines and their standard is far higher and the cost is equal. We will definitely be cruising on other lines from now on. It really seem like they are becoming the Wal Mart of the seas and we hate to see that.

Carnival Has sunk lower by harrisonbrian

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Alaska was incredible, absolutely beautiful. Carnival's food, service and activities leave a lot to be desired. Unless you're paying extra or like trivia, be prepared to make your own fun. There is nothing else to do, activity wise. The casino is so tight, I saw no one win much of anything. The jackpot bells didn't go off once. The food was very much hit or miss. The service wasn't as good as hit or miss. The description of the room was extremely inaccurate as well. I will try another line next time.

First cruise, perfect weather by samanthaAR

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We had perfect weather throughout most of our 8-day cruise that departed from Vancouver. It only drizzled for maybe a couple of hours near Tracy Arm Fjord, but weather for the rest of the trip was gorgeous, especially when cruising Glacier Bay National Park (Park Rangers actually came onboard that day). We were the only ship at Juneau and Skagway on this mid-May cruise, and we did not see very many young children, except maybe a few teenagers. There were about 3 or 4 ships at Ketchikan, which was our last port before we sailed back to Seattle. Crew and staff were all very friendly. Ship appeared old, but has all the basic amenities as expected, including self-laundry facility. We booked our shore excursions through Carnival website before sailing, and noticed their prices on the ship were about $20 higher each. We also pre-ordered a case of 12-pack bottled water that we carried off ship on excursions, which were very handy.

Great Weather in Alaska by billb00

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

When we booked this trip, including a flight on to a glacier and a boat trip, we assumed we'd need several layers o clothing to keep warm. Nope. In Juneau the sun was shining and it was in the mid 60's. he glacier trip was wonderful - great scenery, a entertaining helicopter pilot who know it all, and temperature requiring only a light jacket. Same thing the next day in Skagway on the steam train up to Fraser BC and back. Glacier Bay was more of the same great scenery, the glacier active and calving continuously, and all under clear skies, sun.and temperatures in the high 50's. And to top it off, eagles diving for fish thrown from the boat in Ketchikan.

All told, we had the best weather for our time in Alaska that you could hope for. And as always, the scenery in Alaska is the best. With plenty of wildlife sightings (Whales, seals, otters, deer, eagles, goats and more) we couldn't ask for a better time.

Okay by ktieche

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Will do it again in a heartbeat, just not with Carnival. Travel companions had problems from day one, only had their cabin fixed the last night. Ship was in rough shape - needs dry-docked for painting/caulking. Poorest thing was, Carnival never cleaned the windows, so to view you had to go above deck or watch out dirty windows.

Yes I would recommend this cruise but cabins and food quality could do with some updating. Cruise director and entertainment staff were excellent as well as dining room staff.

Enjoyable Vacation by KonaJW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Hawaii

This is a very clean ship, all the waiters and room stewards were very friendly.  We enjoyed the trivia quizzes and the entertainment, the music in the main Follies was too loud during the production shows, but the shows were good.  We live in Hawaii so some of the ports were where we go on a regular basis.  It was nice to be in Honolulu for 2 days, there are a lot of things to see, Pearl Harbor, Waikiki Beach.

we had a balcony cabin, the rooms are larger than other cruise lines and comfortable.  Kona is one of the better stops, and we didn't go in because the water was too rough to tender in to town.

Honolulu to Vancouver by frankgs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Hawaii

We had a great time using the shore excursions at each stop around the islands.  We did miss Kona due to rough seas. An extra day in Honolulu to start is a great way to start, then the next 5 days were very busy on and off of the ship.  Meals in the main dining room the first 2 days was not a good start but all meals after that were wonderful.  The waiters and all crew were very attentive making dining a pleasure.

The next 5 days at sea to Vancouver went really fast and everything was nice.  The one thing we had not considered was the constant wind from the ship moving at its regular speed.  This made enjoying the deck and pools less than enjoyable.

The shows every night were wonderful, everyone was fantastic and entertaining.

I wished there had been more entertaining things to do during the day,  scheduled dancing classes, cooking or computer classes.

The Internet lounge, library was not very good!  They needed nice reading, Internet cafe for quiet relaxation.

Disembarkation in Vancouver was excellent.  Thanks for a delightful trip on Carnival.
