Carnival Freedom by zephyr37

Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall the cruise was very good once we got onto the layout of the ship.  I need to be on a gluten free diet and I was not impressed with the preparation of the gluten free entrees.  They were bland and not seasoned well.  I'm not sure the chef and the waiters understand about gluten free dining.  The gluten free bread was the same for every dinner and had an odd taste.  I didn't enjoy it at all.  However, I was able to look at the menu for the next day and request what I would like for dinner.  I spoke with the matre'd and she was able to get me gluten free desserts starting on the second night.  The first night I ordered a strawberry souffle (I think), I asked if it had a crust and was assured that they would check.  When it came, it had a crust.  I told the wait person that I couldn't eat it since I didn't know what the crust was made of.  He took it back to the kitchen, then brought it out with the crust cut off!  Although I am not hypersensitive to gluten, I couldn't eat the dessert since the flour in the crust could have migrated into the mousse part.  A hypersensitive person could have had a terrible reaction to something like this.

On my last cruise, at the lunch buffet there was at least one dessert that was marked gluten free, not so on this cruise.

My main complaint for this ship was that you could smell cigarette/cigar smoke anytime that you were in the glass elevator area.  Having allergies, the smoke just made it un-enjoyable.

The cabin boys were excellent.  They kept our stateroom very neat and clean.  If we needed anything at all, they did their best to accomodate us.

Happy Birthday cruise was great by psecws

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Cruise for my husbands 50th. We have taken many cruises in the past. This was the best room care of any cruise. Ports are OK. Cost was less than expected. Meals were well prepared and variety allowed for many choices for each meal. Comedy club had good shows for both the PG and the adult shows. Great comics- room could be bigger for this as the room filled for both shows on 4 nights.

New onboarding and offloading process- so do not arrive early if you choose a noon check in- they will not allow you on the ship prior to the assigned time.

Did not use the dinning room as 8:30 pm is TOO LATE for dinner for us and no other choice was available by the time we booked.

Ship will only transport to and from airport on one and last day. so if you want to explore Galveston - too bad- You will have to arrange you own transportation to enjoy Galveston- I suggest you make that effort. Galveston is worth exploring. There are options for transportation back airport with planning, Uber works to Galveston but is not available from Galveston.

Carnival cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman & Cozumel by gelstoen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall, we loved the cruise experience.   The service was outstanding and Jase, our crew director was outstanding, entertaining and one of the best!    The food choices that were available was awesome and made it easy for someone like me who does a vegan diet.   The nightly shows were outstanding and were the highlight of our cruise experience.   The only thing that we did not like, was that smoking is allowed inside the ship, specifically the casino.   The smell was so strong that we tried our best to avoid that whole area and the activities that were near the casino, because the smell was so strong.  With the concern for health and that it is proven the dangers of tobacco smoke, it would be wise for Carnival to limit the smoking to an area outside along the outer deck area.

Great Ship, Not-so-great food by sarahstein

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My honey and I had an amazing time on our Carnival Cruise! We were on the Carnival Freedom, which had amazing designs and the MOST AMAZING STAFF! Shout out to John, our Cabin Stewart, for being truly outstanding.

Our only, and biggest complaint, was the food. We were under the assumption (from friends and family telling us) that the buffet was open 24 hours a day, everyday. The buffet opened around 6:30-7 ( I wasn't ever up that early) and closed by 11. Took an hour to set up for lunch, so that was noon-3:30ish. Sit down dinner/dinner buffet opened up around 5:30 and ended around 10 PM. The sit down dinner was the best part, though if you get sea sick I recommend taking it easy as it's really easy too eat too much, as the food is very rich!

Would recommend this cruise to anyone who doesn't want 5 star dining throughout. Amazing staff and amazing ship!

Carnival Cruise Care by Cruiser125

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Carnival Cruise staff were wonderful.  The cabin was cleaned 2-3 times a day.  We were greeted by name and with a smile.  These guys were just great.  The dining room staff offered very professional service and again always with a smile.  Throughout the ship this was our experience.

Some minor imperfections by dsirjuesingh

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is the second time we went on this ship. The first being back in 2007 and its beginning to show its age a little. Nevertheless the crew were fantastic, especially while we navigated through some rough waters.

The food overall needs work, its a little boring and in some cases it was tasteless, but expectations were lowered as we were out at sea.

I do have a problem with the mandatory tipping for children. We travelled with our twin 5 year old daughters and they paid the same price as we did and had to pay the same tips as we did and I feel this should be done at a reduced rate.

Overall, we had a great time and look forward to next year to do it all again.

Service was great but the food is something else by Cabs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our room service was great the dining service was great but most of the food need to be up dated, the pizza and burgers were great but the  cafeteria food was lacking in the home  style cooking department . The  cakes and pastries did not taste good at all, it looked good but you take a bite of it you leave it on the plate.  What happen to apple pie or cookies or even lemon cake? Did not get to go to the fish and chips because of the timing they close at 2:30 or 3:00 I really would have liked to eat some last time it was good. The children had a good time, they made friends with the clubs the ship had for them and the  ice cream was very good the  vanilla , chocolate  and the strawberry that was new,  had a good time with family and  Friends.

Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had the best time on our Carnival Freedom cruise. As usual the service from the staff was awesome! We really enjoyed the Cruise Director Jase. He had such a good sense of humor and positive energy I swear he even made standing in line enjoyable! My kids enjoyed the towel animal theater and hands on towel animal making workshop. We have already scheduled another cruise on the Freedom in September 2016 and we can hardly wait!!

The Freedom by chere

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The overall experience on the freedom is a three because of the smoke field casino lack of homestyle cooking the desserts Looked good but soon as you are some you left it on the plate what happen to the cake, and where is the pie?  We would have like to get some fish and chips but they closed early 2:30/3:00 so did the  taco diner.  but that pizza was excellent the hamburgers were excellent. We liked the ice cream  The Nella chocolate and strawberry very good !

Just  remember nothing over $800 spent is duty-free.  You are limited to on amount of liquor (2 )you can purchase and cigarettes (1). and you have to pay Texas port tax on alcohol and tobacco!

Great Trip by lmeadows

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I had an amazing time on the Carnival Freedom.  The cruise director, Malcolm, was one of the best cruise directors that I have had on my 7 cruises.  His energy was contagious and he made the trip so enjoyable.  The Veteran's Day Program was perfect.  The staff could not have honored our Veteran's any better.

The Best Time of My Life by Cruiser423

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I cruised the Carnival Freedom and from the time i arrived unto the boat to the time i departed the boat, my experience was what i expected. Everyone one on the boat, who was employed by Carnival Cruise was very delightful. My family and I karaoked every single night and we also hit the club every night. My only subjestion would be to extend country and western night at the club, all night until the club closes. We did not have enough time to dance the night away on country music. Also, i forgot to mention that the DJ need to update his library with more country music because my son had to tell the DJ, which was a replacement DJ, what  songs to play because she had no GOOD country music to 2-step too. But otherwise everything else was awesome.

Fun, fun,fun by MarthaHolt

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I got seasick day 1 of cruise but thank goodness it only lasted one day. Room was very roomy with a lot of storage. I had a room with a window. Was very nice. My stateroom attendant was awesome! Actually all of the Carnival staff was amazing! The shows on board were great....those folks were very talented! The food was not the quality I have had on other cruises...very bland. As a senior, it was very difficult getting around the ship.  On the Lido Deck, you could not get around without climbing a lot of stairs....so, I never was able to make it to certain levels. I did not like this.

Stateroom and Food by Cruiser130

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My stateroom person was excellent in keeping our cabin clean. The dining room experience was not welcoming. Overall the food left a lot to be desired. The only good food on the ship was Guy's burgers. They should stop serving powdered eggs for breakfast and hard stringy bacon. The food was not enticing enough.
