GOLDEN BIRTHDAY by tinavmadere

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

WE WERE CELEBRATING MY DAUGHTER'S 25TH "GOLDEN" BIRTHDAY.  IT WAS A NICE, RELAXING 4 DAYS.  AS ALWAYS, THE FOOD WAS AWESOME AND SO WAS THE ALCOHOL!!  THE ADULT COMEDY SHOWS WERE FANOMINAL; WE WENT EVERY NIGHT.  ALL THE STAFF WE ENCOUNTERED THROUGHOUT THE DAY WERE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.

Enjoyable Get-away by fullerjam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We have only cruised on this class of Carnival cruises. It was great food and relaxation. The staff was excellent and friendly. The costs of the internet access was ridiculous, but it only encouraged us to stay unplugged.

We enjoyed the comedian Doug Williams's family show.

Good 5-Day Getaway by jsl12343

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Embarkation was a breeze. Our cabin was ready by 1:00, so it was nice to drop carry on items off before heading to Tiffany's on Deck 10 for lunch. Elation is well maintained for an older ship. The service and the food were good. The entertainment was below Carnival standards. There was a review the first night, the second night was good with the singers and dancers featured. The third and forth nights were game shows, hosted by Steve, the Cruise Director. the last night was a show called WIN. It did not. Disembarkation was well organized and went smoothly. The cruise was a good value.

Roughest Cruise Ever by the2roadrunners

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We decided to try something different. I will never do it again. The food was terrible. It was dry and tasteless. The trip was rough on the water. The service was not very well. I really expected more but i guess you really do get what you pay for. On top of al of that at the end of the cruise you get charged gratuities for all the services even if they were terrible. I think that if a job has been done well there should be a reward for it however I DO NOT think terrible service should be rewarded. Our card was charged a fee of $120.00 for gratuities. On top of all that for everything was purchased a charge for gratuities was already added to the cost so i feel as if i was charge twice for gratuities. Everyone on the ship was getting sick because the trip was so rough. Over all I was very unsatisfied with Carnival. I would need recommend them to anyone. I traveled with Royal Caribbean several  times and always had an excellent experience  and the service was always above excellent.  I really feel as if Carnival should have refunded everyone on the ship AT LEAST half there money back.

Fun Ship Trip by joy336

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was very nice for the price. I have been on much more expensive cruises and there is a difference. Overall food was good and lots of it. Cabin was more roomy then I remember from other cruises. Did not book any excursions, my husband and I prefer to design our own day trips.

Cozumel was great, beaches beautiful, water clear, weather great. We got our own cab to international beach just past Paradise beach, cheap. Met a bartender, Martin, he took great care of us all day.

Stopped in Progesso. I think this port is in it's infancy and needs alto of work. I guess if you were on a booked excursion it may be different if you were going out to the ruins, etc. Not much to speak of a town, very little to see, beach is just okay. Had a beer and went straight back to the ship. Would not get off the ship in the future.

Embarkation was smooth, organized and very well done. We gave our bags to the porter. Since we got on the ship around 11:00 and our cabins were not ready till 12:30. We did not want to lug our suitcases.

Getting off the ship was smooth as well. We took our luggage with us to get off the ship and that worked best. We were off the ship by 8:45.

Overall nice trip and would do it again. Sailing out of New Orleans is a blast.

good overall by chucka

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

all in all it was a fun cruise. There were a couple of issues that I think carnival should address. 1 the fact thatthe layout for the smoking section in the drama bar makes no sense.all of the smokers have to stand at one corner of the bar where there are air purifiers that do no good. 2 when the buffet was shut down the other areas like pizza and deli did not seem to have enough help because there were always lines. 3 we booked in ocean view because they only balcony is on this ship are expensive suites, but we could not see out most of the time because our window was so dirty on the outside. other than those things we had a great time in the dance bar and with some of the other entertainment on board. The majority of the crew was extremely friendly

Fun Unlimited by ndchapuis2004

This was a first cruise for me with my grandkids. They had a ball and so did we.  Everything we needed was right at our fingertips.  All of the staff were courteous and always on their job. There was some type of entertainment available for all ages. Shopping was a plus with many bargain items.

Terrible Time by dayetrasloan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

There was pounding all night for 5 days, like there was construction going on. The waves were horrible, I did not get good usage out of my cheers package and when I called Carnival to complain the person that answered the phone asked me did I read my fine print when I signed up for the package because there is no refund.

Great Family Trip by abcdef

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a family vacation for my entire family (parents, sister and family, and brother and family). Overall, we had a great time. Our wait staff Putu and Mere were wonderful. We also participated in many of the on board games. Was not as good as other ships I have been on but overall would do it again.

New Orleans Elation cruise by hydeman1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall the cruise was good considering the weather that we had. Suggestions:

1.D Emergency procedure drill - Liked the way RC did theirs where you have to find your own way to the boats then they give instructions.  Yours took too long and I didn't remember where I was suppose to go afterwards.

2. Pictures - What a waste of paper...thought they would be online by now.  Should be able to look them up by our boat card.  This way you could reduce overall cost to purchase and people would possibly buy more.

3. Progresso - did the corona beach party.  Constant parade of vendors trying to sell stuff!  Options are limited if not interested in ruins.  Carnival either needs to buy some property there or maybe just spend two days in Cozumel.

4. Shows were pretty good.  Was satisfied with the food.

5.  My teenage children was hoping that there would be more activities for their age.

Some good stuff, some bad stuff by purelu

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Pros: Clean on board, very polite service staff, some good food, exciting shows

Cons: More noise from loud music than expected at Mid-night; gang of kids jumping around stairs making really annoying sound at deep nights; limited food choices for salad bar and seafoods

First cruise. by memerick

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall a good experience.  I traveled with my daughter and I can see where it would have been a better experience if we would have traveled with a larger group.  I was expecting the pool to be bigger great for kids but not adults.  Our cruise ship was the Carnival Elation so maybe other cruise ships have bigger pools?

We had a great time by krisbeech

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our very first cruise so we really did not know what to expect.  We booked our cruise for our family Christmas, we had researched on the web all the things that we wanted to do and experience while on the ship. I had to say that for the most part the web was pretty accurate,  except we never did locate the sushi and the restaurants did not pertain to our ship cause we never did locate them. The comedy club was great and we really did have a good time and we will cruise again!  I just have to figure out a way to keep my husband out of the casino!!

RELAXED by glapouble

MY WIFE & I HAVE TAKEN QUITE A FEW CRUISES NOW AND THIS IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE BEST ONES. I HAVE TO GIVE EXTRA CREDITS TO OUR MAITRE D' WHO WENT ABOVE & BEYOND TO ACCOMADATE OUR NEEDS. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HARD TO FIND A NEGATIVE FOR OUR TIME ON THE BOAT.

My Cruise by tywhatley

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The crew was wonderful and the service was great. The boat was very clean and cabins were adequate. I was on my honeymoon and did not expect to see as many children on the cruise that were present. My wife and I would like to take another cruise that had different stops. We did like the 5 day experience and thought that 7 days may be too long. The food was marginal but being from south Louisiana our expectations on food are rather high.

great first time experience by claydotcom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Excellent service from the staff, plenty of things to do on the ship, I only give it 4 stars because I never received my on board credit, and I the guided tour didn't show me all of the Mayan Ruins in the park. In fact we only saw half of the site. And we were only given 45 min of beach and lunch time. I would def, rent a vehicle next time and go at my own pace. But other than that. Outstanding experience for my first time.
