A mostly enjoyable first cruise! by ds5282

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

When I set this cruise up, I did the all-inclusive which was definitely a smart idea! Once on the ship and after tasting their version of sweet tea(they really need to work on that), I decided to get the Bottomless Bubbles which included all sorts of drinks. In looking at the photos of the ship, I was very impressed at how the rooms looked... upon entering the ship I was slightly disappointed. Granted the ship was decently nice although the first thing I noticed upon entering the ship was a smokey, musty smell and it carried throughout the ship. I did have some issues with allergies due to those smells but nothing horrible. I wd say the carpet should probably be replaced, I think that wd help freshen the ship back up quite a bit. The Stewart for our room was exceptional, that was the best part of the ship, Komang did an awesome job of taking care of us, he was at our every beck and call, never missed a beat! I wish all the service on the ship was as good as he was! We had an issue at dinner one night with very poor service, the rest of the nights were spot on. If this is your first cruise you definitely need to do your research and ask lots of questions. Would I go back on Carnival Elation... I'm not sure, I would have to think seriously about it. Would I go on another carnival ship, possibly, but I would definitely read a ton of reviews to understand the shape the ship is in. They did throw in a few perks for my birthday which certainly helped make the trip successful. Would I go on a different cruise line, possibly, again research is key!

Bahamas/Jacksonville easy by FanofCarnival

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We live in central GA so to drive to Jacksonville is an easy trip for us. Four nights are just enough get away to relax. Freeport was disappointing for there is not much to do there. We've been to Nassau several times and shopping for jewelry is great. The Elation has been refitted since we first sailed on it. It's clean but smaller and older than some of the others in the fleet but now refitted it was good. Nightly entertainment was lacking. The comedy club star only used 4 letter words and we left after a few minutes. Hasboro the game show is a waste of time and boring for multi time cruisers like us.

Dining Room Dining by kdube07

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Menu was limited. There wasn't much for evening entertainment. No dancers or other acts. The buffet always had lots to choose from. Don't miss the breakfast buffet. The salad buffet was often lacking fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. Never had croutons. The jar was always empty. To go down the water slide you must be 44" tall.

Time machine to 1972 by markrossi13

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

sorry for the neg review, but my bronchial infection has taken on a life of its own.  This boat should be renamed to old and moldy of the sea.  State room smelled like a frat party the morning after.  Black mold all over the bathroom, dust bunny colonies throughout the room.   The decor is straight from the 70's and has not been touched since.  The general vibe of the passengers is that you must have at least 2 visible tattoos to gain entry.  As for the crew/staff, they are all great people,  I'm sure it's because life on the ship is much better than the remote Asian village they were living in before.  Thankfully I have a good sense of humor and was able to have a good time, considering the money spent for me and my wife was about 3.5k fully in, it was not a bad way to see the Bahamas.

Elation is the way to go by 43allforthebett

I swore I would never cruise with carnival again because the first experience was terrible until I decided to give carnival one more try. The food was great, the staff was incredible and the comedy shows were perfect for my kids in their early twenties.

Paridise on the waves by RobLotz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My favorite part of the cruise had to be Mr. Minor our waiter in the restaurant. He was charming, attentive, and comical, even though we posed a problem for him the first night.  We were on the cruise with our daughters family and were assigned to two separate dining rooms.  So when we showed up as a party of 8 and not 6, he didn't even blink an eye and just set out two more place settings, and every night after that. My granddaughters thought him hilarious.

We also loved our room attendant. His name was Damingo, and he was johnny on the spot whenever we were out of the room. Our room had clean towels, and made up beds every time we turned around. And the thing was....he would come and go without our noticing. I never found him in our room, and yet everything was tighty and hip shape at all times.

The entertainment was superb, and the food even better. I  would recommend this cruise to everyone. Thank you Carnival Cruises!

could have been better by 4firsttimers

Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

If you are looking for gambling and alcohol this is the place for you!  However we were cruising to spend quality family time together w/ our 13 and 18 year olds. Not enough family shows, not enough activities for older kids besides karaoke. Although, if your children are younger, it did seem like the small kids had plenty of supervised activities to do.

Ping pong tables were always occupied, only about 6 putters available for the mini golf and they were for small children, only 1 basketball and half court on ship and it was always crowded and of course both of the 2 pools were always crowded.  All board games that were furnished in the library were missing pieces and pretty much made it impossible to play.

Most all of the shows interfered w/ dining times.  entertainment consisted of comedy show ( out of 2 comedians w/ 2 show days 1 comedian did same show twice).  1 hasbro game show but interfered w/ late dinner so we had to leave early.  1 rock tribute show but it interfered w/ comedy show and late dining so we missed 1/2 of it as well.  Love and marriage show was funny but it was 18+ so our 13 and 18 yr old children didn't have much to participate in. Poorly planned entertainment and not enough of it.

Our steward kept us stocked w/ clean towels and kept our cabin clean and neat.  the closet door would not close all the way and neither would the vanity mirror in the bathroom.  the room was decent size/manageable.  the windows were so dirty we could barely see out them.  What was the point in paying for ocean view if windows are not cleaned on outside?

It's better than "poor" but less than "good" by dstark23

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

It was a disappointing ship. The pool was not large enough for the number of passengers. The salt level in the pool was extremely high, leaving a coating on your skin. There was also nothing exciting going on around the pool. There were not enough for the children to do. No ice skating, rock climbing, bungee jumping, a really small arcade. The shower in the cabin was nasty. It was larger than most but there was heavy mold in the grout.  It needs a heavy bleaching. The shows were outstanding and above average. The food was also pretty good. I probably won't sail on Carnival again.

CARNIVAL ELATION CRUISE by martinfamily360

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I was disappointed because our docking activity on Nausau was cancelled because there were not enough people who signed up.  It included a tour to the Gilligan Island set, snorkling and a beach activity. Instead we were forced to walk to a near by beach that was not the best.  Our room attendant Poespo did a great job.  The food was fair at best, especially for the evening meals.  A positive was the adequate size of the room and a window location with a good room location.

This was a great experience for our family of four. It was the first cruise for our teenagers and they enjoyed themselves. My favorite part was watching my family try new food and experiences!

1st time cruiser by CruiseConvert

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Loved everything about the cruise but my favorite was coming together as a family each night to have dinner. I have 3 kids ages 16, 14, and 5 so it was wonderful that each of them had something to do that they all could enjoy!

Carnival Elation did not disappoint! by ginabeana49

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

First time on this ship and we were very pleased with the customer service, cleanliness, entertainment, and food. We prefer this class of ship as it is smaller and more like the style of cruising we prefer.  No specialty restaurants and a fixed dining time in one dining room is what we enjoy.  Don't have to make any reservations!  Also saw one the best production shows we have ever seen, "Epic Rock"!!!  What a talented troup!!!  Don't want to forget Kevin, the cruise director!  He did an amazing job, was always visable, and extremely friendly!!!

Friendly crew by kmdownen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The entertainment was great and the crew was always friendly and accommodating. Carnival put my daughter and I at a table for 10. All the pairs were mother and daughter! We had the best time! Did lots of activities together! Only disappointment was the food at Half Moon Cay. The ocean was beautiful and cool. The food was burned to a crisp and the sides served were unappetizing.

They make excellent drinks, though!

Best cruise ever!!! by stacyharrod

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)

Everything about the cruise was wonderful.  From house keeping, waiters, cooks, actresses, actors, just everything.  My only complaint is the pool being so small.  I will definitely be back on one next year.

Overall good by Memedee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

I thought our cruise director was a little crude at times and one of the English ladies at our free pamper party got real pushy and upset when people tried to help her. Would  love to see the karaoke for all ages continue longer into the evening, my granddaughter wanted to sing but when we finished with our sit down meal in the evening the karaoke was almost over,☹️             We did love our waiters at our sit down, very nice and entertaining. Over all we did have a good time and will do it again.

My husband and I  went on this cruise to celebrate my 50th birthday.  We had a fabulous time.  The crew was very nice.  Everything was well organized.  There was always something to do, see, eat, drink or place to relax.  We can't wait to do it again.  BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!!!
