Review summary

impressions were good . Welcome lunch was lovely. As we walked round ship saw crew spraying swarm of flies and ladybirds ! Ship needs refurbishment desperately but most areas fairly good. Staff need to cheer up. Felt ignored sometimes. Would sail again but not until after refurb

Embarkation

Very speedy BUT be warned if you turn up early you will have to wait until it's your time. So not worth chancing it.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Sadly a lot of staff looked miserable. Service quite slow until last few days . Some staff pleasant however but this was the exeption. Our room steward was horrendous. Only one bath towell at times. Had to ask for another. No bags for pads after 3rd day. Letter regarding an excursion a day late ! Fruit menu not supplied until we had been onboard a week. No welcome package of toiletries. No horizon mag one day. Didn't know dress code because of this. Went down to eat and hubby approached by 2 members of staff as he didn't have a jacket. Felt very intimidating. No invite posted re peninsular club get together either. Letter dated 14th not delivered until 16th from reception

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was clean enough but desperate for a refit. Cracked windows in some areas. Looks tired Layout was easy to navigate

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Lovely cabin but for a mini suite was expecting a larger one. Had bigger balcony cabins. Cabin creaked and at night there was a tapping noise that kept us awake. TV on dresser on right hand side so difficult to see if lying down. Balcony nice and large. Did not sit out there much as people in next cabin VERY noisy

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Loooong excursion. Trivi fountain not in operation. Lunch at 11 15 sadly but was very nice. Vatican out of this world. Colleseum had to be seen but sadly only from outside. Rome is so so busy and so many rude impolite tourists. Tour guide obviously unwell with sore throat. Hubby lost voice a few days later
