our first cruise by SandB

Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

overall we had an amazing experience for our first cruise.  We loved the entertainment, the organized line dancing and zumba and competitions by the pool.  The ship was beautiful as were the ports of call, especially Curacao and Aruba.  The staff was excellent, always helpful and friendly.  I was a bit disappointed by the availability of the kosher food but we managed to eat well due to the excellence and patience of the staff. We would definitely recommend this cruise and have booked another with Royal Caribbean for next year!

Wonderful Time by nanders1

Royal Caribbean is a great ship and there are many activities. Personally for my boyfriend and I, the platinum drink package was worth it and great. I would definitely be looking into another cruise.

Enjoyable - relaxing to recharge your body by jorgelvnv

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

WTired with Stirred with St.ired always select any time dining so we can go to whatever restaurant we wish or go to the buffet, etc. We were won over by the Server Dalibor and his assistant Hari in the Mozart Dining Room. So much that we highlighted each evening dining and being served by this duo. 5 stops to enjoy and do your own thing. We live in a beach available area so that doesn't attract us but there's plenty to do and see at all stops. It also was great to go to St. Croix and not St. Thomas .

First cruise by business55447

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We booked our first cruise through and chose Royal Caribbean for a seven day cruise of the eastern Caribbean islands. Royal Caribbean has a good reputation among several of our retired friends, We flew into San Juan from Minneapolis three days early on January 8th to get some time to visit Puerto Rico for the first time. After three enjoyable days, we boarded the "Adventure of the Seas" ship at 4pm on the first day of the cruise. We traveled overnight, the next day, and overnight again to Barbados. We used RCI shore excursions on Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maartens, and St. Croix. They were all good to excellent. We hired our own taxi in Antigua to take us to sights and that worked out well too.

The food and service on our ship was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning and evening meals in the main dining room. We ate lunch and one breakfast in the Windjammer Buffet as well. The selection and quality was good. We also really enjoyed the entertainment on the ship: the evening shows and the musicians that played at various venues. An added plus was an ice rink with skate rentals, and an excellent ice show. Since I still play hockey, it was fun to skate there.

We had a great first cruise experience, and are now convinced it is a fun alternative way to travel.

Good Cruise by lawrencebsl

We had tons of fun. St. Lucia should be bypassed however. It is very beautiful but nothing there to do.Local taxi drivers SWARM you as you exit. And Royal Caribbean needs to update their nightly theater shows several notches. They are geared to an older crowd (and I am 60).

NOT A HAPPY SAILER by johnnyboym

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

NOT TO GET INTO DETAILS THE VOYAGE WAS A DISAPOINTMENT NOT LIKE THE OTHERS BEFORE THIS ONE WAS A TOTAL BUST. I DON'T THINK I'LL BE TAKING ROYAL CARRIBEAN AGAIN SOMETIMES SOON.

1. WINDJAMMER MENU HAS DOWNGRADED TO 1 FROM A 10 IN THE SPACE OF A 1 YEAR FROM MY LAST TRIP.

2.THE ISLAND STOP OVERS WENT FROM 5 TO 6 ISLAND TO 4 AND ONLY 2 ISLANDS WORTH GOING TOO WERE ARUBA AND CURACAO AND ISLAND STOP OVER ON LAST ISLAND WAS TO SHORT IT SHOULD HAD BEEN TILL 9:30 PM ALSO LIKE IN ARUBA.

3. MY ROOMS SHOWER AND SINK WATER RAN BLACK AND BROWN AND SMELLY FOR 4 TO 5 HOURS ON DAY TWO.

4. THEY HAD A MIXUP WITH MY  PREDETERMINED ITINERY THEY FORGOT MY ANNIVERSARY ON THE 10TH. I HAD TO CALL AND REMIND THEM SO THEY COULD SEND A BOTTLE CHAMPANIE AND NO CHOCOLTES ON THE BED AS THEY WOULD DO ON PREVIOUS CRUIESES.

5. THE ENTERTIANMENT WAS VERY POOR SHAME HARD EARNED DOLLARS DOWN THE DRAIN. SAD DON'T TRAVEL ON THE ADVENTURE OF THE SEAS IT IS NOT WORTH IT.

P.S. WORST TRIP EVER

Adventure of the Sea- Southern Caribbean by talltex0261

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We had an awesome time on our cruise. Was a bit disappointed with the (Black Pearl) walk tour we took in Barbados as the guide was all about him and his female admirers. The meal at the end was awesome though, I had the flying fish of course. Three of the places I did enjoy were two of the churches and the fish market. Also the town was trashy. Lots of loose trash. Now the Rhythm of Rum tour in St Lucia was my kind of tour. Elvis, our guide, not only took us to the distillery but drove us to all the best photo spots on this part of the island, with stops at many very interesting places. He was very knowledgeable to all the goings on about the island. On the first night of the cruise you should definitely go to the shopping information meet. Lots of good ideas and helpful tips. Made it very fun. The Royal Caribbean ships are the best if you ask me. I will never go on another ship unless it is free because RC is WOW. Can not wait for my next cruise to put me into the Emerald level on RC Crown and Anchor Society, Seven days on a RC ship gives me what I need.

Great ship, great staff, great ports! by FlashpackerFam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The Adventure of the Seas was so impressive. From the minute we stepped on board we were blown away at the quality and condition of the ship. Even given that it's 14 years old it was immaculate. The ship has great amenities, the pool area was very nice, ice skating was a fun addition, the live music on board was spectacular and because a lot of the passengers are from Puerto Rico there is a fun vibe, lots of dancing.

We were travelling with a 4 year old and a baby so got a family oceanview room. It was right at the front of the ship so a little rocky a night but the room was huge, great condition, new flat screen TV, tonnes of storage. We couldn't have asked for anything better.

The staff on board were incredible. Five star service all the way! Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be working on board the ship. Our dining room waiter was amazing. Our cabin attendant did a great job keeping our space clean and tidy.

Food on board, I can't say enough about how good it was!!!! Casual dining in the Windjammer cafe always had some favourites and some things that were different each day at lunch. Breakfast in the Windjammer cafe was the same each day but a lot of choice. Be sure to eat in the dining room on your sea day as the lunch there was really good too. Dinner each night was phenomenal!!! We ate like kings!!! Three courses, plenty of choice on each menu. Different items every night or you could choose from classics.

If you are after a cruise that goes to lots of ports this is a great one to choose. As you see five different stops along the way. St Lucia was definitely our favourite!

Not PERK-fect by gkoss

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Big ship, nice cabin, good food, suitable shopping but the PERKS were missing. This cruise seemed to be oriented towards a Hispanic clientele which, if intended, should have been emphasized. Meals were mostly average and repetitious for the most part. We saw no ice carvings, no floral arrangements and no carved fruits and vegetables - disappointed! Our first mission onboard was to have the sofa cushion in our cabin cleaned of some large stains of who knows what - YUCK! This was, however, attended to promptly. Our second mission was to have our table reservations corrected. Our party of four was seated at separate (and distant) tables even though all reservations were made under my name. After three attempts on my part, this was corrected but the promised notice of correction and table assignment was never delivered. I was finally advised verbally after constant persistence. We heard scuttlebutt that this was a major problem on our cruise and many parents had been separated from their dependent children. Dining sometimes dragged on for two hours causing us to miss some activities. Disembarking at the end of the cruise was delayed so long that we began to fear we would never get off in time to make our travel arrangements. Entertainment was sometimes lack-luster and attendance was minimal. This was not a bad cruise but it definitely lacked PERKS. This was our seventh cruise but our first cruise with RC. However, RC will not be first choice for our next cruise.

On The Adventure by gow3561899

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

My wife and I had a good time on our cruise. The ship was clean and the staff friendly. We dined in the main dining room. Our meals were fantastic and so was our service provided by Bernice and Zhang. We had wonderful dining mates at our table. Our Stewart Dennis was always there to help us with anything we needed. Three of the islands were especially fun for us because knew people on them and we provided our visits with a personal touch. The onboard entertainment was okay, we have experienced better on different Royal ships. One problem was the timing of a couple of the main venue shows were off. We prefer the food the main dining room provides. We always choose the 8:30pm time because we don't have to rush to eat after we return to the ship. However two of the shows only had one viewing time which made us have to leave before they ended. My wife and I are "loyal to Royal", we have enjoyed all of our cruises with them! There is one thing I would like Royal to contact me about after reviewing my comments.

So-So Cruise by MissJ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I will make the best out of any vacation/any cruise as I have been cruising for over 15 yrs.  However I'm not sure if it was just this particular cruise or if the service we are used to receiving on RCCL as a whole is declining.  I have never in my life had a 'mediocre' cruise until this sailing.  Every ATM machine on the ship ran out of money the morning of the second day of sailing.  This being the case, those who needed to withdraw cash during the week had to go to the casino and get an advance on their seapass card, which they charged a fee to do.  No ATM access all week long.

The food presentation was great.  It all 'looked' good.  But taste was something different.  It seemed as though no attempt at all was made to season the food.  On some days, some items were tasty but overall the food was very bland.

For the most part, most of the crew members were excellent.  But this was the first cruise where it seemed as though the exceptional service we are used to getting with RCCL was absent with alot of the crew members.

I doubt we will ever re-visit this ship, esp at this port.  Crowd was very rude and pushy.  However as mentioned above, we made the best of it and had a good time.  I will say that the ports of call that this ship visited were great!  The itinerary is why we chose this particular cruise.  All islands except St. Croix were great!

Buena by gomezrobertoc

Ciertamente esperaba un poco mas, los shows son pobres y no hay variedad en español. Ademas removieron el show de los meseros en la noche del capitan, deben enfocarse en hacer mas actividades de diversion en la piscina y mejores shows.

Take the bad with the good by danablasini

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This cruise wasn't as good as we had hoped. The boat looked nice, staff were more reserved than other cruises. The buffet in Windjammer  left alot to be desired, the food choices were the same everyday for breakfast and lunch. The dining room was excellent though. They don't utilize the pool tv screen that often, the few nights they offered pool movies it was fun. We booked this cruise since we had not been to Aruba and Curacao. Aruba was a disappointment, it was dirty and had many buildings that were fallen down. The only part that was cleanier was the hotel side, still not worth going to though.  Curacao on the other hand was gorgeous!!! We loved every minute of it from the old fort with the shopping inside to the Freeport side. Beautiful architecture, buildings well kept and the whole island was clean,  very friendly locals and great food. Also the shopping in town give better prices if you pay with cash.

Beautiful ship - Bad service by hildasciera

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Not enough personnel. Always had to wait an exaggerated amount of time for drink. No waiters went to bar. Never sat on a clean table at the informal restaurant. Formal dining service was very good thou. I really don't recommend it a beautiful ship is not enough, you have to have a good time in it. On vacation I want good service and pleasant treatment. That wasn't the experience.

It was good, not awsome by cpasantiago

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Good for me and my wife, so-so for the kids. Activites are sometimes very time regulated. If you are with kids, they want to be able to roller skate, rock climb and ice skate whenever they want.  Hard to explain that those activites were at specific times and limited hours only. Also I bought a soft drink package for the kids as the Royal Caribbean site advertised Coca-Cola fountain machines that you can mix different flavors but there were none. Had to ask the attendants at the snack bars or dinning rooms to fill the cups. Also no Starbucks as advertised, although not big issue here. Limited water fountains (I remember them only on decks 5 and 11) and flavorless lemonade juice. Movies on pool deck but no popcorn. The main dinning room was outstanding. Great food and excellent service. Our waiters were outstanding and made our dining special every night. Shore excursions were good. Stateroom was good and very clean. Our stateroom attendant was very helpful and quick to respond. Ship was beautiful inside out. In summary, good for relaxing and adult fun, but with a very energetic 14 and 10 year old kids, you needed to find what to do sometimes.

Fantastic Service by jvankirk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I wanted to take a moment and review the Champagne Bar.  My spouse and I received fantastic service there, especially from Phillip Belmont and Denis (Lat name escapes me).  They went over and above tracking down special ingredients for drinks, and generally making us feel very welcome!
