I have always wanted to go to Alaska. Unfortunately, there was no Wow factor. I wanted to see Whales, Dolphins, Bear & Eagles but did not get to see any of these. I went to see the Glacier, which was some what disappointing. The Falls was beautiful and the train ride was acceptable. I'm happy I went but I would not go again.

Great Trip! by rtate92

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ovation of the Seas

Overall I really enjoyed the cruise. I do not like that Royal Carribean does not include anything with the cruise booking like drinks and internet. Everything seems to have an additional cost, which is a downside to this cruise line. However, the staff were excellent, the ship was in great shape, and the ports of call were perfect. I would recommend this cruise to my friends.

Worst Carnival Cruise Ever by Mychal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Luminosa

We turned Platinum this cruise only because Carnival had no records of our earliest. We go all the way back to the original Mardi Gras. May be our last on them.

EXPECTED MORE by tomthepipersson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Encore

Our over view of this cruise based on our overall rating of 4.5 is that all together this was a cruise to remember. However, this does not discount certain facts that would help to improve the cruise and tour experience. Fact One, There must be ample lighting on the balconies, and also a camera on each balcony as a matter of safety and identifying behaviors that are not condusive to cruising on ships that house so many people. Example, people either fall over board, or jump. Loosing one person is to many. There is technology to see these types of things instantously if and when someone puts too much of their weight on the railings of balconies. Also, there must be a much more ready response to save the person that is in jepody. Therefore, Life saving devices should always be on the ready. They can be catapulted off the ship as well. Whatsmore, there are no signs stating "stay off the rails." There also is no emphasis on this matter stated in the safety briefings on board. I say this because I do not want to be on board a cruise ship where someone loses their life. I hear it from time to time on the cruise networks, but nothing seem to be done about it except to only understand and accept their intentional or non intentional fate. Either way, it is a traumatic and devastating experience to say the least.I also think that a service should be offered on board ship for people who are experiencing different forms of depression. There are medical doctors, why not physiologist. It can only help, not hinder the person in crises. Enough said. On a lighter note...I would recommend that in the Garden Cafe a marker be placed on each table to indicate that the table is occupied. Why? Because, it is a big inconvenience when leaving the table whe getting your food or drink from the buffet. Especially, if only one person finds a table first and then goes to get their food. Otherwise, your just left their standing with food and drink waiting for a table. When there are two people or more, you have to alternate. So, both or all people at the table are not eating at the same time. In Skagway, AK., I picked up some attractive rocks at the pier in a parking lot. When I boarded the Encore, Security confiscated my rocks. I asked them why ? The security officer said the state of Alaska does not allow me to. So, I looked it up on Google, and Google says that it only pertains to National Parksvand other restricted areas. A parking lot at the pier is not a restricted area and it is certainly not a National Park. I want my rocks back, no apologies accepted.

Alaska was great! by tagben150

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

Alaska was beautiful! We were lucky that it did not rain at all the whole cruise. It was warm and sunny the whole time. This is very rare. The crew is polite but under staffed. The ports all need a shuttle to access the shopping area. Kudos to NCL for havinng a handicap only elevator during port. I wished other cruise lines did this.

Underwhelming experience by LinaBell

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

The boat is one of the largest and has a great design with excellent service, but the activities are mostly paid and the majority of the food is worse than week-old leftovers.

Wonderful anniversary cruise with a few notes by KLaChance

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Edge

My husband and I have been on several Alaskan cruises, nearly all of them with Celebrity, so we were very excited to check our their new Edge. First let me say that Celebrity quality is stellar and even disappointments are tolerable thanks to their amazing staff, service, food quality, cleanliness, and aesthetic. We've never been disappointed before, so we were very surprised this time. When I booked our room, I booked as "balcony guarantee" because even as there's a note it could be partially obstructed, it has always previously meant just a beam or having the life boats directly below or something. This "porthole balcony" should not be considered or charged as a balcony at all. In addition to the rounded shape cutting off view, the side of the ship juts out about 10ft, and there's another section of the front of the ship cutting off more of the view. We paid more for this cruise than any other, for about 40% of the view. It would've been more cost effective to pay for a porthole window room. We were also toward the very front of the ship, room 6102, and yet the sound proofing wasn't great. We could hear thumping and vibration of music from the Grand Plaza in our room. And there was cigarette smoke wafting into our room at all hours of the day and night. I don't know if we were near a smoking section or just had inconsiderate neighbors, but we've never experienced this on any other ship. All that said, the staff and crew, food, room attendant, and entertainment were definitely Celebrity quality, which is to say, stellar. We were disappointed to find that the Edge lacked the forward Skylounge, as it was one of our favorite places to watch for whales or just enjoy the scenery, but Eden at the aft was beautiful and enjoyable. Having the main dining room split into 4 different restaurants was pretty interesting, but I was disappointed that the decor didn't lean into the themes very much. They were otherwise beautiful with lots of great seating options, and the food as always was interesting and delicious. Alaska is worth doing on any ship, but only Celebrity has Brent Nixon and Mary Amanda Fairchild, whose infectious passion can get even the most apathetic traveler excited to get out there and explore!
