Review summary

This was our third time to cruise to Alaska. We normally do the round-trip from San Francisco to give us extra cruise days. The cruise was wonderful, but we do wish we could’ve gone to Victoria instead of Prince Rupert as our final port.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
So quick and easy! We choose to pick up our medallions at the port. They are very organized and have them ready for you so you know that they are there and not forgotten and left at home! No need to spend the $10 to have them mailed, in our opinion.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Things were a little disorganized in the first couple of days, which is common. Once everybody figured out their dining schedules, then things smoothed out some. We were still told every evening not to come until about 7:40 PM for anytime dining. In the past, anytime dining meant one dining room was free to walk in whenever you wished. We were able to work around it, but anytime dining doesn’t seem to mean that anymore.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There is quite a variety of things going on to please everybody’s interest. We just wish there were more trivia game shows, and things in the afternoons. Too many things were scheduled in the evening. Trying to work in main dining room, dining and then a show takes up pretty much your whole evening and doesn’t leave time for any of the other activities. We really enjoy the trivia sessions and wish there were more of those between 12 and 4 PM. We always enjoy the spa pool area and the hot tubs.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Princess does a great job with entertainment. They have a nice variety. We had some excellent vocalist with different varieties of music. The Crown, princess singers and dancers did an awesome job with their production shows. Their encore show was one of the best we’ve seen, and we’ve seen quite a few of them on other ships. This particular dance team did outstanding!

Children's Programs

We were not traveling with children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The cruise Director on the ship was excellent! He was professional, polished, entertaining and engaging, and one of the best we’ve seen! His assistance were also wonderful and made things so much fun. Our room steward was excellent and seen to our needs and working around our schedule. We had a Wonderful sommelier, great dining room staff, and great weight staff in the skywalkers lounge.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
We have been on the Crown princess two previous times and found that it was in disrepair and needed a lot of maintenance. This time it was improved quite a lot. It is 18 years old so where is expected. There were areas that could’ve been better cleaned but overall, it was quite nice.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We bid on our cabin as an upgrade and replaced been an obstructed view instead of an ocean view. It was completely obstructed with a lifeboat, but we still appreciated having daylight over an inside state room. For the small additional cost, this worked OK for us. The room is plenty roomy and organized And very clean. We were quite comfortable.

Ship tip

We personally like this level of ships. They are smaller and have a lot of the feel of the original cruise ships with all the wood, the wheelhouse bar, skywalkers lounge, and a promenade deck you could walk around. It does not have an Alfredo’s Pizzeria, but it does have an international café. Club fusion is a very nice venue. The ship is just a really nice size with a lot of the things we appreciate and it’s easy to maneuver around. Years old

Ports of call

San Francisco, California

5 out of 5
We took a nice cruise through Princess up to the Yukon to the suspension bridge. It was awesome to see. Beautiful scenery! And then we were taking him to Myersville for a wonderful salmon bake luncheon. It was a very nice excursion.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We love Skagway! It’s a very friendly town. There’s lots of fun shopping at the downtown area, and Creek Street is nice to walk along. We’ve loved the excursions we have taken to the totem parks.

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska

5 out of 5
We really enjoyed, cruising Tracy arm fjord. Unfortunately, we didn’t get too close to the glacier and we didn’t see any wildlife, but the scenery was beautiful.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did a whale watching excursion in Juneau. We did see whales, although not up as close as we would’ve liked. We also saw Stellar sea lions. Our excursion had to be rescheduled to three hours later than originally planned, so we didn’t have any time back at Port to do anything but get back on the ship. That was a little disappointing.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
We have been to Cachan before and did the totem parks, which are great to see! On this particular cruise we just chose to walk to Creek Street and did some shopping downtown. Ketchikan is a beautiful and friendly little town. While we were there, there was a power outage That affected the whole island, but everyone was friendly and gracious and made the most of it! There were five ships in Port that day, so it was pretty busy. We did not do the lumberjack show this time, but we’ve done it before and it’s a lot of fun to see.

Prince Rupert, British Columbia

1 out of 5
His port was rather disappointing. Many people did not even get off the ship. We did get off and went to a restaurant called Bob’s on the rocks and had some wonderful halibut. There was a nature walk right by the restaurant that we were able to take. it went along the line. There wasn’t a whole lot to see so it was basically just some exercise. We much prefer the port of Victoria.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was fast. We purchased a transfer service from Princess to take us to the airport and that proved to be very easy.

We too were disappointed with Prince Rupert. I would not do an itinerary again that went to this port.
