Quantum of the Seas

7 Night Alaska Glacier (Seattle Roundtrip)

Sail date: August 26, 2024

Ship: Quantum of the Seas

Cabin number: GTY

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Reviewed: 2 months ago

Review summary

We got lucky with GTY that we did not have obstructed view. Recommend picking your cabin on lower deck and mid-ship as higher decks and fore or aft really feel the movement.

Embarkation

Embarkation was smooth but only because I purchased The Key VIP package. Otherwise would have waited in terribly long lines

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was mostly good. I wouldn't say five star, but wasn't expecting that because of 4,000 guests. Most hits, but some misses: pasta and rice were overcooked all the time, so just didn't order. Loved the different themes every night. My Time Dining program was confusing until the dining room manager explained in detail. There are so many dining options, at all hours, and higher end ($) were really good.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Enjoyed bingo, walking the decks, Solarium was a respite since only 18+

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Outstanding! The performers worked so hard and it showed.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
They try really hard, especially in the dining room and steward.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The Quantum ship layout was good, but unfortunately it's "tired." I know it's scheduled for dry dock in September, but there was so much paint chipping on our balcony we were tracking it into the room; the carpets throughout the ship were dirty. Maybe they were trying to get through the season before doing it, but it was apparent.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The beds were the most uncomfortable. The steward tried putting extra pads on top, but they didn't have any more, meaning, other passengers also complained. There was plenty of room and storage, even the bathroom. Loved the metal walls where we used magnets to hang things.

Ship tip

Join the multiple Facebook groups as seasoned cruisers have wonderful tips and trick. There was even a group specific to our sailing where we could share info and pictures.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

Port and terminal were good. Didn't do an excursion. Hotels and transportation to pier were pricy.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Loved this! Did a Jeep tour and saw spectacular views.

Skagway, Alaska Did not visit port

Sadly, the captain tried 3 times to dock in 70 mph winds so this port had to be skipped.

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

Had excursion set for 3:30 but wasn't told it was cancelled until we showed up. Luckily caught a bus which would have left in 3 (!) minutes to the visitor center across the lake from the glacier.

Juneau, Alaska

Excellent town.

Victoria, British Columbia

Didn't actually go into town, but the whale watching excursion was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Smooth disembarkation once we figured out what we needed to do. Having paid for The Key VIP card skipped most of the long lines and got a good breakfast in the dining room not all passengers got.
