For our first cruise, this was a good sized ship -- not too big/small. The infinite veranda window was perfect for Alaska. The rooms were comfortable and we had everything we needed.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
I got the Concierge Class so that we could get onboard quicker and go to a special luncheon. The embarkation was the same for everyone so no need to get the special class for that. The first luncheon was hard to find and several employees on the ship had no idea what I was talking about. By the time we found it, it was just okay but not really worth the effort.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food was good in all restaurants --well the complimentary ones as we did not feel like spending more money on top of all the money we spent on the tickets and all-inclusive package. We spent most dinners in Normandie and enjoyed Franco and, now I'm just sick that I've forgotten her name. They were both amazing.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Didn't really go to any of these! I took my parents who are both older so we didn't do these things.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The music entertainment was wonderful in places like Eden and the mid-deck bar. The night shows were also good and I appreciated the two different times. Lots of fun in the club, from trivia and more!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Everyone was so nice and genuine. I appreciated Franco and Rita (is that right) in Normandy each evening for our family meals. Lots of helpful staff in each restaurant.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The infinity edge rooms were a brilliant idea for an Alaskan cruise. My parents spent hours by the window watching the scenery and wildlife.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The overall size was good. My 6'3" husband was thrilled when he didn't feel claustrophobic. The window was wonderful. The cabin service twice daily was so prompt and wonderful! It was so ridiculous to have drinks in the refrigerator for purchase even though we paid for the drink package. We just moved them onto the table so we could have the fridge space.
Ship tip
Turn on the TV and go to Channel 2 to see the live view and the next channel to hear the captain. The spa's main goal is to sell, sell, sell. Any of the "free" events and all of the services will push purchasing something.
We walked around town. When you get off at port go to the right down the main street to get to the red-light district. We went the wrong way. We also did the duck tour but that was a huge disappointment. Almost all of the shops in the ports are owned by the cruise lines, so keep that in mind. Look for Made in Alaska shops.
Gorgeous! I appreciated how our ships turned so that you could see the glacier from anywhere. Be sure to listen to the TV to hear the naturalist if you are in your cabin.
Great little town and rail tour. Although the port is easy access, it's about a 1/4 mile to town. The walk is very easy and my older parents did it with no problem, but did ride the shuttle back after walking around town. The town itself is a bit difficult to walk through due to wooden walkways. Cute shops.
We did the absolute worst bus tour. It was a double decker bus, but enclosed and high seats so when the bus driver would say, "look to your left", if you were on the right side, you could see nothing. The sites were not all that interesting, and the drive talked A LOT about how expensive it is to live there. Waste of lots of money!
It was good. We waited for a while to try to get to our shuttle later and it was nice to be able to hang out in the Cosmopolitan. Getting to the shuttle was an absolute crazy experience.
Welcome to the wonderful world of cruising. Appreciate your feedback. Happy you learned a lot about cruising and will have a better experience next time. Glad you enjoyed your first cruise.
So glad to read your review and that you enjoyed the edge. we were on it in May for 10 days to Hawaii and loved our infinite veranda too. I guess people either hate it or love it, but we'd loved it 😍
