With Princess suspending and Viking as well, I wonder how long before the whole cruise industry will suspend operations in some way. If they can "clean" the vessels and have to crew become 100% healthy then they actually will win this fight. We see airlines cutting back and some Rail being affected, so how long efore a short term shutdown will occur?

Ideas folks?

Yes, they did!

I also see now that Princess has just announced that they are suspending operation of all ships for 60 days

VERY helpful. My agent had not received the changes. Looks like I’m on the same ship (YAY!) but with almost a completely different itinerary! Sent from my iPhone

@CCMarlo You can reach out to MSC as many Cruise lines are offering special offers to keep passengers cruising. Here is MSC contact info:

Social Media: For the most part, the Twitter feed is promotional rather than customer service-driven. However, the line tends to respond to posts on Facebook. Twitter and Facebook.

In addition, this is the link to direct info on MSC website https://www.msccruisesusa.com/en-us/About-MSC/News/Itinerary-Updates-Covid-19.aspx

Good Luck! I'm sending positive vibes your way!!!

This is from the Viking FB page

Dear Viking Guests,

Today Viking announced that we will temporarily suspend river and ocean cruise operations until May 1, 2020 in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 situation. The announcement was made today by Chairman Torstein Hagen in a video message and letter sent to currently booked guests with impacted sailings. We believe Viking will be in a better place to provide the experiences our guests expect and deserve after this time and plan to resume operations on May 1, 2020, continuing all further sailings as originally planned.

You too can view Mr. Hagen’s video here: https://www.vikingcruises.com/notice/update-video.html

We will stand by our guests, colleagues and partners in these challenging times and hope that you in turn will stand with us too.

Sincerely,
The Viking Family

At this point I would not be counting on anything happening as planned. Many airlines are cancelling flights and shutting things down, more countries are also locking down and I see Viking cruise lines just announced a shutdown till may 1 as well.

Just longer stays in the other ports. Would love an upgrade from interior to balcony if the ship isn’t full. Not sure how to ask. Hoping there won’t be a change of ship with lower occupancy.

Itineraries can and do change for a variety of reasons..weather..mechanical issues..even civil unrest, sometimes in mid cruise too..and now this. Your best bet is to call them, and be prepared to settle in and wait. Not something alot of folks are willing to do. BTW, hopefully, the information you get is actually valid. Its all subject to change, and MSC's "policy" leaves a bit to be desired.

How flexible are itineraries? Leaving on MSC (I still hope) March 27 and first 3 ports are Italy which is on lockdown. Thinking we are unlikely to be allowed to disembark and wondering if more time at other 3 ports (still open at this time) will be alternative?
