The cruise-ship season in Canada is all but dead as Ottawa extends a ban on ships in Canadian waters until the end of October.

Transportation Minister Marc Garneau says passenger ships with overnight accommodations for more than 100 passengers can't operate in Canadian waters until at least Oct. 31.

I feel sorry for the islands that their only industry is tourism. Thanks for sharing this and hopefully enough places will open to the cruise lines that passenger will still enjoy the adventure.

The latest from YouTube videos. Looks like the larger lines are planning to star sailing August 1 with select ships and destinations. The lines need about 30% capacity to break even. They may not do away, entirely, with the buffets, after all because they will probably only be sailing with 50% capacity.

Any chance of being able to pin this post? I'm sure others will find it useful.

Here is a generalized guess as to what might occur when and after the virus abates. I disagree with some of the assumptions as I theorize changes may be much more drastic and involve a major overall of the entire industry business model. Expect huge losses, new owners and much consolidation.

Thanks for the update Sarah! We’ve already had four cruises canceled this year by the cruise lines, but we still have three more booked for 2020, so we’re keeping hope alive! Looking forward to traveling as soon as it’s allowed! Happy

Im 209 days out from my next cruise...hopefully everything is back up and running!

I watched a YouTube from an officer on a Princess ship, Princess just did at sea transfers between a lot of ships with some ships down to under 200 crew to go and lay low and other ships full of employees cruising to there home country to drop them off. He said some of them will take up to 45 days to drop everybody off. So we know those ships will not be back to cruising anytime soon.

All the casino's are closed :-( The Vegas strip is a ghost town.
